The kitchen aims to cook very good produce, as simply as possible but with imagination and plenty of care. The menu is driven by what arrives from our suppliers each day.

Private Party Facilities
Our private room seats parties of anything from 6 to 14 people. Because it’s designed for larger groups, we offer set menus for the whole table rather than the restaurant a la carte menu. We hope this adds to the sense of conviviality and the room is all yours for the afternoon of the evening.

Portland is one of my most favourite restaurants. If you appreciate 'taste' this is the place to be. Superb.

This small cosy restaurant is magical. The stuff is fun, friendly and super professional. The food once again was pure, honest, amazing. They use the best ingredients -I had the monkfish which was the best quality piece of monkfish I have ever tasted and the accompanying puree was just perfect! A friend had the chicken which was ( he said) absolutely delicious. As for the gluten free bread, no other restaurant or producer offers anything as good as this! Do not forget to try the drinks. I once tried the homemade lemonade which i loved. But i now have a new best ever favourite, the rhubarb induced gin and tonic. Fantastic!

We’d heard really good things about the Portland and were a bit disappointed as although the food was nice, we didn’t think it was good value for money. Starters were about £15 and mains about £30. The menu was quite inventive but the end product didn’t taste as good as it sounded. The service was really good. Attentive but not stuffy.

What a warm welcome our group of 3 received at Portland Restaurant. We were there to celebrate 2 birthdays and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place. The staff was warm and friendly without being intrusive, the food and drinks were delicious, inventive, and beautifully presented and the atmosphere was elegant yet casual. We would definitely return on our next visit to London and unreservedly recommend the Portland!

Portland never fails to impress. Not only was the tasting menu delicious and well-paced, but they went above and beyond by preparing a card signed by the kitchen staff for my birthday. Very thoughtful and an incredible personal touch.

So nice to have a carefully prepared and thought out meal. Pollock was lifted beyond expectations by cooking. Simple setting, open kitchen, small, informal. Waiting staff were excellent - attentive but not intrusive. Husband was sick the next day though - was it the quail and sweetbreads (which I didn't have)?

The food was extremely good. It was extremely quiet (day after Easter) and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. Nice wine list and good recommendation from staff. A very enjoyable lunch.

This was our second visit to Portland, with the other being about a year ago while on a business trip. We were running a bit late, so called ahead to make sure they did not give up our table. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to see that they had honored our request to sit side by side (it is not a large space). That was the beginning of a great experience for the night. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings and were well rewarded. Tasting menus can often be a bit too much food, but in this case it was a perfectly sized meal for my wife and I, a couple of 50+ year olds. The food is a nice selection of tastes and textures, all of it very fresh. The wine pairings were well thought out for being a complement to the food for each course. Everything was nicely paced and we did not feel rushed at all, despite a dinner time that was after 8 pm. The staff was very friendly and a lot of fun to talk to over the evening. Value for the money is quite high in our view, even though it's not cheap with wine included. It is a small space, so be sure to book ahead, particularly at peak times. Overall, highly recommended! Give it a try if you are in London, it's well worth your time!

I had a friend visiting from Switzerland and I wanted to her to have an interesting culinary experience in London. I had Portland Restaurant recommended to me a number of times and wow I’m glad I saved it for this occasion. The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, fascinating flavours and textures - very very impressive. A good spot for a special occasion.

Wonderful food, fantastic wine list (even by the glass!) and excellent service! Food allergies very well catered for and the staff couldn’t do more to ensure that we had a great evening. We felt that everyone wanted us to enjoy the food and experience. Oh and the gluten-free bread is to die for - it tastes better than regular bread, which is so difficult to achieve, and is testament to the the highest standards in the kitchen.

I am with other reviewers who think the owners have shot themselves in the foot with the new 2018 format. It's not just that a fixed price £62 per head menu has replaced the a la carte but the feeling that cheffery has taken over from Portland being restaurateur led.

The service remains as sweet and knowledgable as ever, the wine list as interesting. But I hate the very restricted menu particularly there only being one meat, one fish and one veggie main course. And, with the abandonment of the a la carte the cooking also seems to have become unnecessarily finicky. Raw salsify 'tagliatelle' with confit egg yolk is an example. (Has anyone considered the inulin/flatulence problem?)

The proof may be in the pudding, I have never seen Portland so empty. It always used to be full but there were only about a dozen people eating. With about £180 for two (inc a middling priced bottle of wine) being the least you can now spend I really hope Portland reverts back to its original winning formula ASAP.

They've ruined my favorite restaurant! I've been going to Portland since it opened, and it was my favorite restaurant in London. the food was innovative, and the service was relaxed but attentive. It is amazing how small changes can impact your dining experience. They now have a tasting menu, or an alacarte menu that is 3 courses (as opposed to you decide what you want). they no longer offer cocktails except those on the board, and it just feels like someone is just trying too hard. i live right near by so go to this and their sister restaurant a lot, but it will be quite some time before I'm going back to Portland - at least if they're keeping this incarnation
