What Insiders Are Saying
Primeur is a brilliant neighbourhood wine bar and restaurant with excellent Modern European small plates and a fantastic candlelit atmosphere.
Real quality food. What you read is what you get, nothing offered outside of menu. Great atmosphere.
The food and service was good but I thought the pricing of the wine was rather cheeky. The cheapest white was £27 (which we chose and was Ok but not great) followed by the next cheapest at something like £35. We were hungry so the bill racked up.
Extremely Overpriced and unprofessional service
They kept us waiting and standing for at least 5 minutes to be seated. Then didn't have a table for us and we had to sit at the bar. Most dishes were taken out the fridge and served, not much preparation. The service was really unfriendly and the mark up on wine is laughable.
Amazing flavours and lovely setting - one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long while. Can't wait to go again!
I had been wanting to try Primeur for quite some time since we moved to the area and we were not let down.
The service was excellent, very attentive and quick, and the food was incredible. Great selection of dishes (vegetarian & meats) and fanatastic wine selection.
The setting is very nice although a little awkward with our party of four sitting around one corner of a larger table and a bit hard to hear at times as can be a bit loud.
Although it is a little on the expensive side I will definitely be returning.
Love this place, didn't disappoint this time either. Delicious food, friendly service, great wine list
Lovely staff gorgeous food sharing tables aren’t for me :)
Food was delicious but limited vegetarian options. Service excellent, very helpful & friendly
Great little place very friendly and food is great , small plates to share . all amazing AND doggy friendly yey !!
Great vibe. Good food and excellent wine list. Only problem is that it’s a bit loud. But that’s what you get for a happening place. Love it!
Great wine. Great pumpkin. Great service. Great music.
The food, service and atmosphere are all great but there are a few flaws. It’s very noisy when busy and the tables are wide, so difficult for a group of any size to chat. The second half of the menu was expensive for the small size of the portion. There are no sides so you can’t top up. There was a very limited selection of soft drinks for non-drinkers.
Good food, reasonable value.
Unfriendly wine menu and prices.
As always amazing seasonal food, delicious wine, warm service & great ambience.
Great food, ambience and service. A bit pricey for the small portions, but a great experience overall.
Stumbled across the little gem whilst cycling home. Great small plates with the perfect variety of meat to vegetarian dishes and perfect for sharing. Not the sommelier yet, so ordered a bottle of the house white which was delightful. Seemed to have a moderate list of decent wines of what I thought were at a decent price.
Also, their bread. Get. The Bread.
We love Primeur and have eaten here many times. Convivial homely atmosphere with the candle lit tables and jugs full of exuberant flowers (it works so much better here than at Westerns Laundry - possibly because this is an older building and not freezing cold!) Portion sizes are more generous here too.
What both restaurants have in common is excellent, attentive service - it’s always a pleasure to find staff who are so knowledgeable and passionate about the food they’re serving.
They also share a talent for perfect seafood, classic sauces prepared in the French style and balanced combinations of flavour and texture. Primeur ignores the modish tendency to shuck too much on the plate to demonstrate ‘creativity’!
Just one small criticism (apartment the lack of any soft drink options or coffee...) We have not experienced this on previous visits, but yesterday the menu featured plenty of protein in the form of meat and fish and lots of dairy fat; but no starchy carbs, no fiber and nothing GREEN. Basically, it needed some fruit and veg! (I’m not surprised they’d already run out of green salad when we arrived.)
I’ve particularly enjoyed the Brill on several of our previous visits, always perfectly cooked and served with plenty of beautiful light beurre blanc. Once with new potatoes and steamed chard and last time with sprouting broccoli & brown shrimp butter. Yesterday this was just as good, but desperately needed some greens (and ideally some new potatoes - not just for colour or nutritional benefit, but for balance. One leaf of cabbage and a spud away from perfection...
Having said that, you MUST order the grilled sardines if they're on the menu when you visit and the beef rump was excellent. Finally, Primeur's panna cotta is always exceptional, as was the chocolate & salted caramel mousse.
Thanks for another excellent meal - we'll be back!
Slightly quirky atmosphere, helpful staff and above all good food and wine. Much enjoyed
this is a luxury neighbourhood treat. we shared a long table - the atmosphere and ambience is friendly, open hearted. The food is terrific, the small plates can add up in price if you are hugely hungry. Best to go as a two or a four.
Primeur never fails. The best 'local' restaurant in town...
Primeur was fantastic, could not recommend more highly. Every element of the plates we chose were exceptional, and accompanied by beautiful wine and wonderful service, A+
Great service, relaxed atmosphere that has a local vibe with fine dining expertise in the kitchen. Seating is a mix of communal dining on a large table, or if you are a couple seated on stools at the kitchen / bar. Small and medium plates to suit your appetite and occasion and good wine by the glass, we'll definitely be back for more!
Great dinner as always at Primeur. Incredibly friendly staff. Amazing food. Really nice ambience. Highly recommended.
This is one of my all time favourite places to eat in the world ❤️❤️❤️
Heard good things about this place but was very disappointed by the food and price . Wouldn't recommend.
Lively with great food. Staff were excellent. The downside is that it is cosy. Sharing communal tables is fine...but you are quite close together.
A pleasant neighbourhood restaurant, with a good ambience. Service was friendly and fast, and we certainly felt welcomed. The excellent reviews and high prices had us expecting something very special. The food was good, and very good in places, but not quite enough to justify the high-end prices. We eat in quite a lot of nice restaurants and I've certainly had more exceptional small plates and tapas at a more reasonable cost. Each plate had us nodding agreeably and saying "yes, very nice" but nothing that really wowed, surpirsed or had us groaning with delight (like say, Morito does, every single time for example). A £16 small late of lamb and beans tasted like a very small portion of nice roast dinner, and a sardine and onion dish was tasty, but incredibly small and simple considering the £11 tag. I would probably go back and give it another go. I like the atmosphere and the food is....nice, but I hope next time the flavours are bigger and the menu more ambitious to justify the hefty bill.
food is too fat, too much oil and salt makes it impossible to eat
Some simply delicious dishes! Primeur never disappoints. Always torn as we are regulars at Westerns Laundry butbit is good to visit Primeur for their twist on food. Thank you!
Great place! Great vibe! Great food!
The food, particularly the hake, was sensational and our waiter, Caleb, was great.
The food was excellent. We had 4 different plates and were very tasty between 2 of us and probably should have had one more to thoroughly sate our appetite. We were given several small tastes of wine before we made our choice. The restaurant had a nice ambience and the staff helpful and friendly. Prices were just about right and I would visit again.
Excellent as usual, Primeur should get Michelin star
Love this restaurant, great surroundings and delicious food and wine.
Only thing is.... limited to only 3 options for veggies so left feeling hungry. Such as shame. Even if they just offered the meat accoutrements - such as the polenta - it would be much better.
We found this to be a charming restaurant in an unusual location with relaxed and friendly service. The plates were small, tapas style and generally excellent - albeit pricey. The only reasons I can't mark higher is that the wine was so disappointing. We tried 5 glasses of different wines - from £5 to £9 per glass and none of them would stand comparison with a £5 bottle from Sainsburys. Ordinarily no big deal but this place doesn't offer tea and coffee, it has a very limited menu of small plates that would go well with good wines so I for one expected more.
Nice, trendy decor if you don’t mind sharing table. Food is no more than pleasant but simple and homely and very overpriced with tapas portions priced as main course (eg £22 for a small piece of unremarkable fish with simple sauce). I left hungry! Wine is too expensive as soon as we go up the list.
The food was very good and the menu had an interesting mix. I did think for a foodie place they had poor options for my pregnant friend, offering only apple juice or water. There are so many options out there and for a foodie team I would have expected a bit more imagination there. Also, they sat us at the bar, despite being a group of three which is awkward at the best of times let alone seating a pregnant lady on a high stool. It was a shame as there were other tables available, so a great meal, but we hurried to leave and go somewhere more comfortable
Chose Primeur for a birthday meal for my boyfriend as he works in wine and their wine list looked interesting...we were very happy with everything from start to finish! Great wine , great food and great service too! Not a cheap night but definitely worth it.
The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were lovely and the food was delicious. Thank you for a lovely evening!
The food and service are excellent. The seating is bar stools and long communal tables which isn't my favourite arrangement but it's probably the most efficient use of the space. It's fun to watch the skilful chefs in the open kitchen.
