Primeur is a communal and counter dining restaurant occupying the space of a 1920's former car mechanics garage on the Hackney/Islington border. The restaurant specialises in serving a daily changing assortment of sharing dishes showcasing honest British and European dishes. The wine list changes daily too, introducing terroir driven wines from producers who work naturally to preserve the true expression of the fruit and its indigenous ferments from the vineyard through to bottling.

Chilled evening, great service, very tasty food dishes and great choice of wines. Definitely recommend and will most likely be back again (and again). A softer seat or cushion on the bar stool would have been even better.

Came here for the second time recently and in general the food, ambiance and service was good. However, I would prefer if the menu could cater a bit more for people who don't eat meat. I'm not in anyway suggesting that it becomes a vegetarian restaurant but would like to see a few more options on the menu as it was particularity meat heavy; If it wasn't for the fact that we eat fish occasionally, we wouldn't have been able to eat much at all.

Also, we had a dish of clams with crab which was incredible - but I'm slightly confused as to how another dish consisting of 4 pieces of asparagus with a bit of Parmesan actually cost more!?

Still, I do love this place because when its good its great, and the restaurant is amazing with a great atmosphere.

My second visit and the food was just as good. The menu, both food and wine, is short and is always changing so a good place to experiment. All the dishes are interesting, and made with fresh ingredients. The staff are great, and enjoy explaining and recommending options and the basics are all there(excellent bread, water, olive oil etc) which many places forget. It isn't cheap but is good value.

we came at Primeur on a Sunday for lunch, really nice atmosphere, not too noisy, bright, the decor is stunning and the food is excellent.

We had a great night sitting up at the counter watching the chefs. The menu was good and the food we had was really tasty. Especially the croquettes and the tart. Also a very good wine list and knowledgable staff on them to help choose the right glass. We will definitely be back.

My third or fourth visit - I love the ambience, the food and the knowledgeable and charming staff - every time. It's fun! The food is nicely presented but not fussy - at every visit the most notable feature are the interesting and complex flavours. It's a bit on the pricy side for a neighbourhood restaurant, but generally justified. Every dish we had was fantastic and very flavourful, only the scallop (note singular) for £11 was simply a quickly seared big scallop and some peas as garnish. Uninteresting and very expensive for what it was. The waiter suggested we should take one dish each - luckily we didn't - one was enough. We had a 'natural' sparkling wine which was lovely and complemented the dishes beautifully. My go-to restaurant!

The food was good but very expensive bearing in mind the quantity and relative simplicity of the dishes. A single scallop for £11, Cow's curd on toast for £8/9 (as far as I can remember) is crazy for dishes so basically constructed, even if they were tasty.

The atmosphere was good, as was the service. I can't help but think that if it were on a busy high street with more immediate competition, it would be much more reasonably priced.

Fantastic food (but small plates for the price, although I think that is the point), staff could not have been more attentive and thoughtful. Loved the room and decoration, very elegant but simple and the only draw back was the intense noise as sound bounced off the walls and floor but also little that can be done about this (perhaps ceiling baffles or some rugs). That said I will definately be back and soon, all the way from west London!

This is the second time we've been here (the first time was during our previous visit to London a year ago). It was excellent the first time, and even better now. We chose 5 plates to share between 2, the main ingredients being jamon, razor clams, gnocchi, raw courgettes and beef brisket, respectively. Everything on the menu looked enticing. Each plate was well conceived and executed - not fussy, but great flavour combinations. The opportunity to taste wines before buying was welcome, since they are often made from little-known grape varieties. Service is professional, and the value for money is excellent. Some may find the seating unsettling - either at the bar (where you can watch the food being prepared) or at large communal tables. If you treat it as part of the experience, and like well-cooked and imaginative food and interesting wines, then you will have a great meal.

Love it. It's a great ambience and even fuzzy eaters are going to love it.

Really flavoursome food. Ideal for friends and special occasions as well as a great date place to impress

Everything comes with a prize. It can be dear when it comes to wines.

Fantastic service, great atmosphere, interesting seasonal plates and of course one of the best natural wine lists in town! A real gem. Not cheap, but the quality of food and wine reflects that.

A wonderful space and very beautifully fitted. Great quality produce and very well executed from the kitchen. The staff have a depth of product knowledge that is impressive and also very helpful. The dishes are fairly priced but be prepared to pay for your experience. I would highly recommend dinning there to a friend or couple. I will certainly go back.

The food was lovely, and I really liked that the wine was as cheap by the glass as by the bottle to encourage trying different kinds! I would have preferred to have been seated at a table than at the wall/mirror but maybe this only works for groups. It might be good if you can request this ahead, even for smaller groups of 2 and 3. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back.

Always such a pleasure to eat such thoughtful and well-prepared food. The wines are beautiful, well matched and recommended by the staff who themselves are spot on in terms of service. Possibly my favourite place to eat in London...I have to keep checking!

Great, but should have been HALF the price !
Only wine and beer. Shared tables which are okay but not great. Service attentive. Good food BUT stupidly expensive for small plates. As a couple we paid £142 plus tip for our night . Most ludicrous was the lamb with beans at £16 for a side plate portion . Won’t rush back .

Excellent menu where dishes compliment each other. Good hubbub, comfy chairs and friendly enough. I think our waiter was Dylan Moran under cover which I found amusing. Slightly hate myself for not being able to afford to eat here more often, which is probably a good thing (for the restaurant, not me).

Great food and ambiance, we had a lovely experience!
Only thing I would say is the service is a little pushy, (for time, and for drinks). Also there are no cocktails available which was disappointing!! Kind of annoying that there are no printed menus as well since it's slightly upscale..
