Primeur is a communal and counter dining restaurant occupying the space of a 1920's former car mechanics garage on the Hackney/Islington border. The restaurant specialises in serving a daily changing assortment of sharing dishes showcasing honest British and European dishes. The wine list changes daily too, introducing terroir driven wines from producers who work naturally to preserve the true expression of the fruit and its indigenous ferments from the vineyard through to bottling.

The food was good but not as good as usual!
We had a very cramped end of table for 4, not enough space for the food. It’s a shame as we love this place!!!

The food was excellent but we were rather hurried by the staff to order our dessert, as the reservation was reduced from 2 hours to 1.45 minutes without discussing it with us. This made the end of the meal feel less enjoyable. 2.00 hour slots are fine (if a bit tight), and that is what we agreed to, but reducing it further without asking us felt a bit rude.

Also, upon asking the staff I found out that if you pay a tip through the card machine it doesn't go to the staff, the company keep it. This is not the way I would expect a decent restaurant to operate. I would expect tips to go to the staff, and if that isn't your policy you should make that very clear to diners. Again, a bit disappointing from somewhere I thought would be better than that.

Small plates to share. Interesting flavours and combinations, wide selection of unusual wines.
Quite expensive. Communal tables or stools at the bar.

Fantastic restaurant! You’re looked after from the moment you walk in, our waiter was knowledgable about all the wines and food on offer, and really wanted to help us in our selection. Sat at the bar was great, a little quiet in atmosphere but it grew as the evening went on. Would definitely go back

Excellent as always. Food is always fresh, delicious and tasty. Service is spot on. Tiniest of gripes is that the bar seats are sometimes bit close for comfort, but usually only if a bit of manspreading is in play.

`we have arrived early for a pre-theatre treat for my husband’s birthday. So the ambience was like for an existential film because the restaurant was empty. The food was first class although not enough choice for vegetarians ( please note Primeur, we are experiencing a food revolution and many people choose to avoid it, for different reasons). The service was very attentive and they even remembered to stick a candle in my husband’s cake. When the restaurant is full it is v noisy with the local chi chi crowd. Le Primeur is quirky and let it remain so.

There is a great atmosphere and service in the restaurant. The menu is creative and flavoursome. We thought the vegetarian options were delicious and the cod and lamb mains also lovely.

Great food and and a nice service. We enjoyed sharing the dishes, it is a nice concept. The place is lovely, though a littler louder when it gets more crowded. We would definitely recommend it. The food and service is well worth the money. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Booked a table for four and we were sat on the corner of a bigger table where another four were also sat, making conversations between all four of us difficult. Food was nice but pretty expensive for the portion sizes.

Another example in Stoke Newington of style Over content. I’ve lived here for 15 years and find another restaurant using the concept of “tapas” to get people to pay a lot
Of money for very little food. The intimate in shrinkflation.

Location lovely but food very very expensive...

Really good food at Primeur, had a great night. We did the whole meal as sharing plates, having 5 small plates and 1 main between 2 of us, but you could do say 2 small plates and a main as an individual and have a really good meal. Each dish was excellent in it's own right but I also think the menu is really well constructed so that they complement each other. That is some clever cooking. I'd happily eat anything on the menu and will go again. The only downside is the wine, I'm afraid. There's a serious mark up on most of the bottles and it seems to be pretty much exclusively natural/organic wines which quality-wise I find to be pretty emperor's new clothes. You'd be better to drink but the glass here, I'd say. But if you do that and just had 3 small plates you'd have a really good night for a reasonable price.
