The food was good but the service was distinctly average and the ambience not particularly good
Would recommend the haggis appetiser - was Spectacular!
Will go again !!!
I just love coming back here. Such a relaxed atmosphere, great food, love it.
We had a very nice meal in this beautiful Georgian restaurant. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu which was very good. We had a Groupon voucher which made this substantially cheaper that the full price menu but I think at full price it would have been overpriced. Nice ambience in the restaurant with pianist entertaining us.
Had a lovely meal back ground music just a bit to loud service good
Food was OK but overpriced for what it was. Went with a vegetarian who was underwhelmed with the choices. Staff and service were good.
Food was very good. The only embellishment was the lack of atmosphere. However, if you’re looking for somewhere quiet then I’d recommend.
Food great, service very poor. We ordered olives and bread which arrived quickly but we then found we had no plates. Unable to get attention we had to go to the bar and ask for plates. We were handed plates which we had to take to our table. Our starters arrived but the plates we used for the olives etc had not been removed. We had to swap plates and were told to re-use our cutlery. Wine was ordered and when the waiter presented the bottle to me I could not see the label and had to rotate the bottle in his hand. The only food related problem was with my sweet which was creme brulay. The custard was only edible at the top and became almost solid half way down. Our bill when presented contained an extra bottle of wine not ordered by us.
The venison was excellent. Go. I have a hunch you will like it and they have a haunch you will really like. It is very well situated. Easy to get to and plenty parking nearby.
We ate there on New Years Eve and therefore had a set menu which was outstanding. The food was excellent and there was so much of it. Service was great, particularly as it must have been one of their busiest evenings of the year. Would definitely recommend
Everything is so perfect! Love it! Rib eye steak is my fav.
For a Christmas dinner this restaurant was ideal. Not too large a dining area with good service. The 5 course meal was well planned and the service well orchestrated. The one negative about the occasion was that though detailed allergies had been given over the phone - and it was understood written down to be communicated to the kitchen staff - there was no alternative served for one course which was clearly not acceptable because of these issues (it included goats cheese). When asked about the issue the waitress had no knowledge of the notification and brusquely intimated that no alternative was possible
Wonderful family boutique hotel with unique touches to menu items.
Food was really good and the staff were excellent. The candle in my wife's dessert was a lovely touch and she was surprised.
A pianist came in half way through our meal and started playing. It was lovely to have a live instrument in the background and the pianist was good too, and a nice choice of music.
A very nice small restaurant with a cosy dining room. Food very good although felt our server could have been a bit more friendly.
Not our first time but we’re a little disappointed the starter was lovely but the turkey was very ordinary. We chose the cheese board and I have never before tasted cheddar with absolutely no flavour. The other cheeses were nice.
Absolutely fantastic food and wonderful experience. Quiet and discreet on a busy Saturday evening. See you again soon. James
Lovely place..great food..lovely ambience....before..pianist came in...
Far too small and cosy room to be having piano belting out..(not needed)
couldnt hear ourselves speak..
could put you off which is a shame as really nice place
Went for pre-theatre dinner and was impressed with crab cakes and smoked haddock scotch egg for starters and seabass and partridge mains. All well cooked and delicious. Strawberry crème brulee wife said was excellent and I thought the cranachan was the best I have tasted. Recommend to anyone and will return to try out the tasting menu. Pinot Grigio was also excellent and selection of bottled beers OK. May want to consider a locally brewed draught beer.
Food was delicious and had an amazing time. The food had lots of variety and the wine list was great.
Enjoyed a lovely anniversary meal here. Food was of good quality with plenty of choice and well presented. Nice atmosphere with a live pianist, dark decor and buzz from a busy but not jam packed dining room.
Food was very good - a nice and small dinning experience.
The food was fantastic staff very attentive. Pre Theatre dinner just perfect.
Massively disappointing. Taster menu not worth the money. what was the chef thinking !!!
Starters were 2 pieces of ravioli which was raw. Second attempt at ravioli also raw.Potato and date was awful.Main course was tiny portion of pheasant with pheasant sausage which was inedible.sorbet was melted into liquid. Dessert had sad looking raspberries. Yes we did complain about all of this. At the end of meal we were not offered coffee .Please save your cash for somewhere else. Anywhere would be better.
A much travelled restauranteur.
I really enjoy the venue and food here but unfortunately was really disappointed by the service at our last visit and am unlikely to return as a result
The steak and sides were a bit overpriced but other than that good food, nice waiters, nice place and we loved the piano in the background.
Salmon was lovely and the dark chocolate creme brûlée very nice indeed.
Really wondered why we’d always walked past.
Lovely food - venison, game, traditional Scottish with flair. Wine was reasonable and very tasty.
Was much cosier inside than I expected - which was excellent on a winter night.
We’ll be back.
The food and service we’re first rate with a very friendly atmosphere.
Great food, service and a lovely friendly greeting on arrival
Wonderful - I confess we found this gem through the travelzoo voucher that gave us a skewed view of its value for money (50% off), but the food was exceptional, the atmosphere relaxed and cosy, and the service attentive and friendly. Would certainly go again.
Food excellent, service excellent staff very attentive, nice atmosphere, cosy little restaurant
First visit to the restaurant, and will probably go back. Food was good on the whole, and reasonably priced. Some issues with the wine list and availablity of some of the wines. Service very friendly but a bit hit and miss. A pleasant experience, but a few wrinkles to iron out.
We did wait rather a while but the food was delicious and there could not be a better recommendation than the fact that the waiter who served in another restaurant the night before was also dining on a table near us to the amusement of us both
Can't recommend highly enough. Excellent food and service.
Lovely food, helpful staff and a nice place for a relaxing night out
It’s good on the whole some room for improvement - the cooking is not quite up to the expectation for the price it’s charging.
Lovely live piano music.
Helpful staff in general. Just a bit of wait for food and the card machine.
A varied, Scottish-focused menu with a good selection of meat, fish, and veg dishes. Decent wine selection too though could do with more variation by the glass. Service was pleasant enough though not hugely engaging. Ambience was a bit flat but a cold, windy Edinburgh evening might have had something to do with that! Happy to give another go next time I'm in town but a few things need work.
Well cooked food and a reasonably priced wine list. Dark decor added to the ambience.
Excellent food and service in this small intimate restaurant. Seriously creative menu...located in a quiet residential neighborhood but as a tourist it was well worth going a lovely walk about 10 minutes from the center to enjoy the best meal we had in Scotland.
