1423 China Kitchen
Our Grade 2 listed building, believed to be the second oldest in Windsor, dates all the way back to 1423. Centuries of clutter and old decoration was stripped away to reveal many original features including a very rare Dragon Beam, thought to be one of only ten still existing in England.
Using only the very best local produce along with many seasonings, spices and other fresh ingredients imported directly from Szechuan. We are also pleased to offer a very comprehensive menu for both vegetarians and vegans.
The restaurant is set over three floors enabling us to comfortably cater for up to 90 guests. As such it is ideal for providing separate spaces for individual large family get-togethers, parties or even corporate functions.
Great food! Friendly staff and looking forward to going back!
The food and place are great.
We felt that not enough was done to maintain social distance between tables.
Excellent food, polite service, will definitely go back
Great food, good service and a lovely venue
Good food
Good service
... and an unexpected £10 discount
First time at 1423, as we were shopping nearby and fancy some Chinese food. I’m glad I chose this restaurant from OpenTable, the food is absolutely authentic (that is, those dishes with Chinese names of menu) , and although not cheap (pricing comparable to London) the portion is large and made up for it. Service is superb for Chinese restaurants, they provided high chair and plastic plate for my 2 year old without asking. Love that they provide wet wipes before we ate dishes such as lettuce wrap and prawns with shell (the latter was divine!) I’ll happily return when in this area again.
Amazing food with great service. The team were helpful and happy! Great little find next to the castle
Very good traditional Chinese food really enjoyed it the kids liked it.
Always great food and service here. Squid is the best there is
We all agreed one of the best Chinese's we've had.
The food was good, but one member of staff’s attitude was disgraceful. We asked for a finger bowl, to be tersely told no finger bowl, you’ll have to have hand wipes. These were more or less thrown at us. We then tried to attract his attention to ask for something else, but he did his best to ignore us. I finally said excuse me in a loud voice to which he’s reply was simply what?
Other members of staff were better, but there were only the two of us in the restaurant.
It’s a shame as it was a nice restaurant. We won’t return.
A wonderful little restaurant hidden away on the cobbled streets of Windsor, wonderful attentive staff, wonderful food a great place.
Booked for a Saturday night and chose to sit inside. Not too many ate in and tables spaced well apart. Chose a set buffet and food and service was excellent. Would recommend .
Food wasn't great - duck was overcooked and dumplings weren't very tasty. Whilst the vibe was nice, history of the place was interesting and service was good, it doesn't make up for the lacklustre food.
Food is great, the service is fast and friendly.
Staff rude & impatient waited 1 hour for service items of food came at later intervals eg. Mains without side dishes which came much later. Thevrestsurant had dinning outside as well as upstairs to many customers which kutchen & staff couldnt handle. Staff appeared stressed at times shouting at each other.
I wont be going back neither will i recommend.
Decent traditional dishes, good selection, high quality ingredients. Recommended!
Excellent food from an extensive and traditional menu! Usual gripe about the take away drivers in and out and the style of the table legs Restricting leg room and making it uncomfortable to sit properly made our decision to eat out side the right one! Staff were very helpful and the service excellent ! The presentation and quality of the food was excellent !
The location is wonderful, outside is very nice especially on off peak times. The food is very good quality and very delicious, costumer service is efficient and pleasant enough. Not a cheap eat, but still well worth it, especially if your craving decent dim sum.
The food was absolutely fantastic really tasty and well presented enjoyed all the dishes we choose I would highly recommend this restaurent for value for money quality of service and ambience
Food was superb and excellent service. The family all enjoyed the dim sum platter and char sui buns and the kung pao chicken was so good.
Paper napkins, a pretty generic menu and the overall level of decor, cleanliness and tableware make the owner's profession that he would like to have the first Michelin starred restaurant in Windsor something of a pipe dream. Fairly uncomfortable chairs, tables that you simply can't get your legs under and, worst of all, sticky banisters and floors bring this restaurant down, hence the overall rating.
On the positive side: decent food, friendly and efficient staff and a nice atmosphere, coupled with the history of the building and the overall setting, make this definitely worth a visit. I would certainly go back for a decent and well-priced meal, but this would certainly not be the choice for fine dining.
The best Chinese food you’ll probably eat. So good we went back the next day! The food was fresh and tasty and the house white was lovely! The chicken noodles were amaze! The sweet and sour chicken was amazing, the chicken satay was......... yep you guessed it amazing! Easy choice this one! Enjoy!!!
Nice to sit and eat outside. Good crispy duck. Portion sizes decent but mains lacked a kick/flavour. Expensive relative to other Chinese restaurants
Outstanding food and friendly service.
100% best Chinese meal I’ve had.
Would reccomend for anyone in Windsor.
This was my 4th visit to 1423 china kitchen and yet again it exceeded my expectations. The covid precautions were fine and not too intrusive. The menu has changed since my last visit but still has plenty of authentic options. The food is simply amazing!
If you want a normal westernised Chinese meal that you can get from many many takeaway shops then this maybe isn't the place for you but if you fancy something different and very tasty then this is the place to book.
it was so good i was back the next night!
Great food. Very Good service and ambience. Worth visiting again. Parking can be difficult to find.
Very nice and traditional Chinese food and a great place to celebrate the year of the rat
Very nice food, busy restaurant which is always a good sign. My wife's vegan and she really enjoyed her food. If we're in the area we'd definitely go back
Excellent food, the food was really excellent and miles better than any other Chinese Restaurant in the Windsor area. The service was good too and not intrusive. We will return...
Food over priced and lacked flavour.
Delivery people in and out constantly,
Need to have a back entrance!
Won't be back.
Authentic Chinese food. Delicious. Chris was a great waiter and explained the traditional food and nDe recommendations. Will be going back.
Very good Restaurant in Windsor great tasting food friendly staff reasonably priced recommend booking first
Wonderful service and great food. Will go again next time in Windsor. Thanks to everyone at the 1423 Kitchen.
After two weeks abroad, we were looking for a good Chinese restaurant. This one had great reviews and was close to our hotel. We stopped in and checked it out. We should have picked up on the manager's blase attitude, but we made a reservation and came back at 6 for dinner. We were the only diners the entire time, but they do a very brisk take-out business, and everyone's focus - one hundred percent - was on that side of the business. We had to ask for everything, even refills of water and wine, and nobody gave us a glance to see if we needed anything, even though we were twenty feet away from the frenzy of preparing orders, dealing with a steady stream of delivery guys, etc.
This may be the only Chinese restaurant in Windsor. If it is, and if you need a fix like we did, then it'll do. Otherwise, I suggest finding someplace where they care more about their dine-in customers.
Very nice as always, probably our 5th visit, great service and food , lovely restaurant especially upstairs. Best Chinese food in Windsor. Would highly recommend.
Nice place good food great taste would recommend trying this restaurant. My only fault is the way they do the service for there take aways it should not be on the next table where someone is trying to eat there food this is not very professional
Food was swimming in oil.
Ridiculously high price for a small starter soup
I booked a table of 2 for a special birthday treat and especially requested for upstairs seating. Upon arrival we were told upstairs were closed and we were seated next to the cash register. In the next hour or so the takeaway delivery drivers were in and out right next to our table. I understand that on a Monday night it is probably not so busy so they have closed the upstairs but then they let a whole family to dine upstairs literally few minutes after they refused us for the same request. I can’t say it was a pleasant experience but the food was better than every other Chinese restaurant that are in the similar vicinity. Food is a little bit pricy but considering it’s Windsor and we didn’t wanna go to an all you can eat Chinese restaurant, it was satisfactory food wise. Service was fair apart from the seating option.
Beautiful food. Incredible location. Fantastic service ... a little on the slow side when busy but nothing to moan over. Defintly recommend the sweet and sour chicken
