The food was outstanding. We went as a couple overnight as we were having a day at the nearby Follies. We eat out quite a lot and we were very impressed. My husband had the ham hock for starter and I had the camembert - probably the best baked camembert I’ve had and I have had a few! We both had the pork belly with veg and black pudding mash, devine! I had posset and my husband had cheese for pudding. Can’t fault it. In terms of ambience I should probably reinforce that this is a golfing hotel. It was full of large groups of male golfers - probably three women diners including me. Didn’t bother me really but it was a bit surprising that there weren’t more couple of mixed groups. The service was good but fell down on some basics which you would expect in a formal setting - no water on tables, when moved from the seating area to the table we carried our own drinks whilst the waiter didn’t offer to help which was a balance! Told to get our own wine list by the bar - would have been intimidating for me as it was packed out with male golfers all enjoying their pints (nothing wrong with that just saying!). Would I go again? Definitely but maybe take some ladies with me too to balance up the ambience. Can’t fault the food though.

The food was really good but the noise level made talking to people at our table rather difficult. The other diners were mainly male golfers, (no surprise there!) in groups and they tended to speak (and swear!) loudly. The dining room perhaps needs reorganising so that non golfers can eat in peace and the dining room acoustics could also be fixed.

A real shame, reasonably smart, modern restaurant but appaling service and average food offering; the answer to every question was 'no' including 'may we have some bread rolls' and 'may l have a coffee' ! My 3-bean chilli was essentially a can of baked beans with a handful of red kidney beans stirred through. When we left the young receptionist was sitting on the lap of her non-employee boyfriend who was drinking an (under age?) pint of lager in full view of guests checking in or out 🙄. Really poor.

We waited 50 minutes for the meal. The fish tasted like it had been left for hours. The batter was chewy and stuck to the fish. My husband was served steak and chips without anything at all on the side. The waiting staff tried their best but were unable to cope with the numbers. They were pleasant.

Unfortunately a really poor end to what was a lovely start with the christmas santa grotto experience. Servive was so slow, often resulting in our party wandering off to the bar to find someone, to then be told to sit down as they'd be right over, but still waiting another 10-15minutes. Lager was off with floating bits and sour taste, obvious that the lines had not been cleaned. Waitress did deduct bill by 2 pepsis but as the overall bill for 4 adults and 2 toddlers was £80 + we resented paying it for such a poor experience

We ate here on Saturday 12th December and it was quite disappointing. Three of us had turkey and it was completely tasteless. The desserts were very good. Service was ok until we asked for the bill which took a long time to come. In fact we had to ask twice. The dinning room was very nice and well decorated for Christmas. We also had breakfast the next morning which was average.

The food was outstanding as was the service. Waiting staff were incredibly friendly. That said, there were only 3 or 4 tables occupied due to the current Covid situation so I couldn’t say what it would be like on a busy night. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal

We had a great three course meal! We were kept well apart from other diners, the staff had masks and gloves and the service was great. We really enjoyed the food, it was prepared by a very good chef and it was £25 for 3 courses.

The food was beautiful, plenty of variety including for vegetarians, the waiting team were extremely polite and efficient. It was a lovely meal, we all ate three courses and didn’t leave any of it, and will definitely return to sample the other menu choices.

We ate at the restaurant while staying at the hotel through Secret Escapes. The menu had sufficient choice and the portion sizes were excellent. Letting the side down was the noise level in the room. Two very large groups of men who were very loud dominated the dining room, the lounge area and even the snug; for they could be heard everywhere, sometimes making it hard to hear the companion next to me. Setting aside the noise issue, as a restaurant associated with a golf club and hotel I didn't expect much but it served decent food at great value. On that basis I would recommend it.

Booked a table for my wife and I as it was my Wife’s birthday that day. This was booked as we had previously dinned at hawkstone a few times over the years. Very noisy due to a function and we were sat at table number 19. The surrounding grass windows etc very dirty but may have been due to the function that’s day. We greeted well and taken to our table but unknown to us was that the doors near us led outside to a smoking area so we have several occasions were all we could smell was second hand smoke and a cold draft. The waitresses were polite but there seemed to be a lack of organisation or training. The food was OK but not to the standard we had been used to at Hawketone. Overall very disappointing especially as I had booked this for a nice quiet birthday meal with my Wife.

So sorry to mark this restaurant down as the chef brigade are obviously doing their bit - a table of 4 all had 3 courses and all excellent & fairly priced too. Unfortunately the serving staff are in need of considerably more training, they were all pleasant enough but their customer skills were lacking. Worst of all was the huge amount of very noisy and foul mouthed golfers who had no consideration at all for other diners and this was in no way managed. If 1792 want to attract diners other than golfers they really need to think about a separate dining space for those who would like an intimate evening that doesn’t involve having to shout to be heard by the person next to you.

Highly recommend , the establishment was lovely very posh , we arrived 30 minutes early for are booking and the staff were more than happy to seat us and we were served straight away. The afternoon tea was gorgeous more than enough for three people ( although we ate everything) . We sat by the window with a lovely view of the grounds . Will definitely be coming again .

Everybody had a very enjoyable evening and there was no problem with the food or ambience, the only thing that did grate was that we ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc expecting the house wine since we weren't presented with a wine list, and nobody in the group was a wine connoisseur. Given there were six of us the wine disappeared pretty quickly so we ordered a second bottle so imagine our surprise at the end of the evening to find the wine was nearly £27 a bottle, which from memory is significantly more than we paid the last time we ate in the restaurant, and a lesson to us to always ask for the wine list and not leave it to the staff to choose.

Had a great overnight stay which included our meal at 1792 bar and grill. Food and service were great Only one thing (and it’s not a complaint) we contacted the hotel prior to ask about what was included in the package with regards to the restaurant and we were told anything off the main menu, but when we were given menus it was a choice of 4 items for starter, main and dessert. What we had was fantastic and couldn’t fault the good or service. We then put a dent in the gin bar for the rest of the evening

I was very disappointed with the poor service and lack of ambiance, it actually felt very uncomfortable. We were a party of 12 and the only table in restaurant to start off with, it took 45min for us to get our drinks, we were not offered more drinks through service and had to go and look for service, the food was just ok , there is definitely room for improvement!
