I should have complained at the time. The waiter recommended the Veal sharing main course. He completely went over the top with the description saying it was melt in the mouth and the best veal he had ever had and he had worked in some of the top restaurants. Well I love veal but my friend was apprehensive as she hates tough meat.
The veal came in a big pot and the waiter said take a picture. We couldn't see the point as it was just a "bit of veal in a pot". So they took it away, and brought it back sliced up on a plate with 3 potatoes, delicious gravy and lovely mushrooms. But the veal was tough and tasteless and the only flavour was the gravy.
I had a glass of wine (£14.00) which was really nice. My friend had a gin and tonic (£14.00). When the bill came, we asked why the G&T was so expensive and they said it was a double and that is "standard". My friend specifically asked for a single as she was driving that night. Be very careful when you order drinks here.
My advice, if you want delicious food, eat somewhere else. If you like all the pomp and ceremony and being schmoozed by the waiters...AND don't mind paying for it...then you have found your place.
Amazing service . The waiters were so attentive and thoughtful
Food was perfect
Setting was brilliant
Couldn’t fault if
I have been twice now in the space of a few weeks. I think it's excellent. A major novelty of course is the view of Manchester and the surrounding area from the top of this building. That's quite special. I don't think Manchester has another restaurant with that?
Have the floor space is an indoor restaurant and half is an outdoor terrace complete with its own bar and seating and heaters.
The ambience in the restaurant is nice. It's a little noisy like a lot of modern restaurants but you can still have a conversation without shouting at each other which is a plus. The menu and food were excellent. I have tried the mussels and a couple of fish dishes there which can be tricky to get right and both were cooked to perfection.
Wine list is excellent.
Service is very friendly and not at all snobby. Can be a bit slow when busy but didn't bother us.
Clearly it's not cheap (probably a minimum of around £50 a head). Seems everyone wants to visit at the moment with it being new. It's a bit brasher and flashier at the weekends but a different vibe earlier in the week.
Great food, great views, great interior, slightly brash, very modern Manchester.
Oh, and an interesting take on communal loo's.
Great experience , food , ambiance, people, service , location , definitely will be going back
Great table with views over the city.
The service was professional and not rushed.
Quality food with a naughty desert if plum and frangipani tart - yummy
Beautiful setting and decor, great staff but food very poor quality. Ordered a burger and a chicken Caesar salad, burger very basic, hard to find any chicken in the Caesar salad
Amazing views! Ran our waiter really looked after us! Great atmosphere and lovely food, will definitely be back
Lovely ambience amazing views and the service was excellent, food not many choices for vegetarians
Having waited two months from booking I was looking forward to the experience of 20 stories and expecting something a little special inline with all the media reviews. I'd booked for a Friday night and we had a table next to the bar. I could not fault the food and to begin with the staff were friendly and helpful. However, about half way through it felt like we'd been gatecrashed and abandoned, EDM blarred out and 100s of people spilled into the bar area right next to us. I'm not sure what they're aiming for here a fine dining place or a trendy cheshire bar therefore possibly in need of rejig as I hadn't signed up for the latter.
Fantastic setting and well recommended. However, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a tasting menu on offer. I naturally presumed it would be a tasting menu because of Aidens previous restaurant but I was wrong. The food was lovely though but I do prefer the whole experience of a tasting menu especially when you’re paying top dollar...
Setting is fantastic and well worth a visit simply for that. Staff were very attentive too. Well done to Hayley our waitress and Kear the wine man.
Impeccable service. Food was delicious. Amazing views. Best rooftop terrace in Manchester.
Amazing food and service!! We had the pleasure of being served by Andrei, who absolutely made our evening. He was attentive, helped recommend food and how to cook it and it was perfect. He is a real asset to this place. And the food, wow!! We had the wing rib, highly recommended. Look forward to our next visit.
Amazing experience, highly recommend. The only negative aspects was there wasn't many vegetarian options or halaal food. However, the view, service & everything really was fantastic. Lovely experience.
Fabulous 6th time I have been and been spot on each time
Excellent will return
The restaurant was nice. Food was okay. But the service was absolutely worst. First before we went up to the restaurant, we stopped at the cloakroom to leave our jacket. The lady asked if I would like to leave my jacket, I told her no I’m good. But then she ‘suggested’ me to leave the jacket because the restaurant was really warm which sounded rude. Then, we moved to the restaurant. The hostess was nice, shown us the way to the table with a smile. However, the waitress who served us was totally disaster. We were 4 guests in total. Me and my boyfriend first seated, the waitress thought we were 2, she then removed the other 2 set up and handed us the menu. I had to told her that we have 4 guests. She apologised and put the 2 set up back. After the other 2 guests arrived, they were not given any menu for more than 10 min. After we ordered, we had to wait for almost 1 hour for our starters. The waitress then came to apologise for the food delay, so I guess maybe she forgot to send our order or whatever. Again, we had to wait for another 45 min for our main course and 40 min for our dessert. The only good thing that I could raise for the service was the bill. It only took her 3 min to get us the bill which is so fascinating. Thank you for saving us another 40 min to pay the bill. In general, we did not enjoy the service at all. I was so looking forward to try this restaurant once it opened. Thank you again for this extraordinary experience and we will definitely not coming back.
Very welcoming and a good relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
View were amazing and service was excellent. Wine was overpriced with over 200% mark up on a decent Sauvignon blanc.
The view is incredible. It’s a swanky venue so go dressed appropriately. I did however expect afternoon tea - which is not currently available.
We had a wonderful time. Was very difficult to get a window seat yet fortunately the staff kindly helped after we explained how far we had come to eat. Great food, steaks were amazing, the wine was also well priced and tasty, desert was excellent and we ended with a few cocktails to end the night. Nice area outside also. overall I will return !!!
The restaurant definitely has the wow factor, especially as we visited on a sunny date and so got the full impact of the Manchester Skyline. The food and at table service were excellent, however the welcome we received on arrival left me a bit underwhelmed ... we were 'checking in' with the staff member on the desk upstairs, and then another member of staff came over and started talking about where to seat another customer ... and we were left standing there, completely ignored. Not what I was expecting ... I will definitely come back, and will recommend the food and the experience - and hopefully my greeting will be warmer next time!
Fantastic views and the food is very good but small portions so it makes it very pricey with wine it works out at £75-£100 per head so in the long run with so many restaurants all fighting for our custom we will have to see but the views are really something else
Incredibly average and not worth the price. Booked the restaurant as a treat but found that the food was nice but overpriced and that the service was lacking considering the service charge of 12.5%
Got a bread basket whilst we waited for mains-this was half a piece of bread. All three guests had mains, deserts and cocktails. Menu is limited anyway but some options weren't available. Cocktails that we wanted weren't available because they had ran out of sloe gin. Portions are tiny and vegetables aren't included. I was given dirty cutlery for my dessert. Immediately pointed this out that the spoon had food all over it. At the end of the meal went to the bar for a drink, waited 10 minutes to be served on a quiet Monday night. Asked if it was table service (it's not but they charge 12.5% service charge even for drinks that you order at the bar yourself) overed two cocktails which were £26 so I think asking for a £4 tip is absolutely ridiculous given we had already paid a £20 service charge earlier in the night. Wouldn't recommend
20 Stories was an amazing experience from the minute we walked in to the lift. Amazing and slightly pricey wine list, but speak to Kier the sommelier for some great recommendations. Try the frangipane plum tart definitely enough for three 😉 to finish your meal
We were visiting this new restaurant in Manchester to celebrate two couples wedding anniversaries. We had visited Manchester House and enjoyed Aidens cooking . We had booked for a fine dining experience and our first surprise was being seated in the Bistro area.
At this point it was explained that the menus had been merged.
The food was good but the 'extra' service from fine dining was missing Two of our party when to the w.c just after the first course and the main course was served whilst we were away from the table =this should not happen and the waiters should wait until everyone is seated.
we then started to eat our main course only to find that everyones meal was just warm and this wasn't helped by cold plates.
we did tell the staff and we weren't charged for our desserts but we all love Manchester and like eating out and there is no way that these problems would earn a Michelin Star . We were expecting this standard of cooking and service.
The roof terrace is amazing . I hope you take the comments as support and not complaints . Thank you Colleen Toon
The restaurant has a good vibe and offers amazing views of Manchester. The restaurant seats are quite close to the bar, as a table of 5 enjoying a meal we struggled to hear as there was a lot of noise from the busy bar. The table service was great, the staff were very attentive and we were given a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl.
Overall a great place for a special occasion.
Ok is all I can say- not really sure what it wants to be - a bar or a restaurant!! Needs to have a better door policy very mixed clientele. Not somewhere I would return in a hurry. That kind of venue has been and gone - Manchester needs restaurants not places just for people to be seen.
AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING VIEWS! A must visit in Manchester!
A really fun experience. Fantastic atmosphere. Amazing views of Manchester. Great food except for chicken dish. Interesting tasty veggie choices. Al our waiter was brilliant. Definitely repeatable
The atmosphere was lively and the views spectacular- helped by great weather.
Food was good but we were surprised that every glass the wine waiter poured he managed to splash the table!! It became annoying and unexpected if you hope to be known for fine dining you need to sort this out! Overall a nice evening.
Excellent restaurant, certainly the best Manchester has to offer. Our waiter was Raphael who was exceptional. The food was amazing, each dish was a pleasure, all came in good time and we were relaxed throughout and never felt rushed. Combining the restaurant and grill menus was a very good decision to have made. The wine recommended by our waiter complemented the meal and the cocktails were sublime. The food and drink are wonderful but the showstopper is the panoramic views of Manchester, the terrace is amazing and the views make you feel so much more integrated into the city centre than even the Hilton bar which is at a similar height and not so far away. It’s very pricey but for definitely worth it for special occasions. Can’t wait until our next visit.
I can not fault the view or the venue in regard to the decor. However the dining area is way to close to the drinks serving areas and the bar.
Aiden Byrne has once again failed to impress. I travel for and have eaten at some of the best [Michelin] restaurants in the world and find is shocking that this menu is attempting to contend. There is a lot of hype and pretense and I do not understand why? The food lacked any complex flavours, ingredients and individuality. I frankly found it to be a posh over priced pub menu and I would still prefer my local gastropub.
I ordered a fair few dishes and the only acceptable dish was the scallops and that was at a push. The menu attempted to impress diners alike by confusing them as to what they are about to order. Once service began ourselves amongst others found the dishes that arrived to be incredibly basic and were confused as to why they attempted described them as they did.
I will probably go back for the bar, but not for food. The only issue with the bar is their door policy dumbfounded me. Even though we did not have a problem, they turned away smartly dressed respectable individuals yet let in brash individuals in tracksuits that overshadowed the impressive venue.
They should look to change this if they want to achieve the status they so rightly want. However there seems to be a clear mismatch in the message the restaurant and bar are trying to achieve.
Very enjoyable - very good service, food & ambience.
Special treat of a restaurant. Went there for a special family reunion. Food beautifully presented. Sommelier knowledgeable, but wines quite pricey. Views outstanding. Meat especially nice.
Venue is amazing the food was really nice and staff pleasant
Perfect evening - first of all we had some cocktails in the terrace and took in the lovely views. It was a little chilly but heaters and blankets were available. Then we had the most amazing 3 course meal. The food and service was second to none. Cannot wait to come back!
Words won't really do 20 Stories justice everything was amazing from staff to food to the view best restaurant in Manchester
Sorry Aidan other than a good atmosphere no where near as good as Manchester House.
Very limited Menu, Service that deteriorated through the courses especially drinks service and I’m afraid a very poor sirloin steak with lots of gristle that I can assure you was not 12ozs. Don’t really wish to say this but to be honest I have better steak from supermarkets
It was my birthday, so my husband and I had booked for a Saturday lunch. The food and cocktails were lovely and the service was fab. All the staff were very friendly and professional. The views are immense and definitely gives cloud 23 a run for its money. A close eye for detail has been payed and everything, including the rest rooms were designed very well. This place will be a massive hit in the summer months! We will be back for sure.
Wanted to try this restaurant out to see whether it was suitable for a family get together in April. It was cold, but th terrace was great - just a shame they could not organise themselves to light the stone fire and make some cocktails without a 25 minute wait! Once inside for out lunch, we were impressed by the food and the wine. Service was excellent too. We will return.
