28-50 Covent Garden
In the heart of Theatreland, 28-50 Covent Garden is the face of the St Martin's Courtyard dining quarter. Hand-picked wine lists curated by passionate in-house sommeliers, this big-sister of the famous Marylebone brasserie features a plethora of accessible and high-end wines by the glass - some exclusive in the UK (such as the Chateau de Candie from the restaurant's own vineyard in the Alps). Menu is from Julien Baris, doing what he does best – simple, seasonal modern European cuisine, cooked from scratch on the premises, and of course, steaks, big and juicy, and lots of seafood. Design by Richard Green fuses 28-50's acclaimed no-nonsense wine-workshop style with more than a nod to all-things bling, featuring bubblegum pink and sky-blue velvet armchairs at every table. 3 dining rooms, a connoisseurs wine-bar, an extravagant champagne bar and a killer soundtrack make 28-50 Covent Garden is a must for pre/post theatre or a night of relaxed fun with good food and wine.

The food is of average quality but the prices are not! Had we known that the least expensive bottle of wine on offer was £60 and that basic pasta dishes were in the high £20s to £30 then I think we’d have gone elsewhere. Service was attentive but, to be honest, a bit over attentive. I really don’t need my water filling up for me every time I take a sip. I suppose at £6 a bottle there’s some incentive for the restaurant to make sure you get through plenty of bottles. I’m sure the restaurant does well in an affluent area but the prices were too inflated for me and, to be fair, there’s nothing about the food or the ambience to justify them.
Lovely restaurant food and staff Great, would definitely visit again
Very nice al fresco dinner. One of the very few places in London that lets you book an outdoor table. I loved it. Good food, good service. Recommended.
We had a lunch here. Fillet steak was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Both wines we had were great. It’s not cheap but you get what you paid for.
Staff all very covid aware and attentive. A really enjoyable experience. Thank you
Food was good but not excellent. My medium steak was well done and the side dishes didn’t arrive with the main meal - it took several asks to get everything but the staff were pleasant. The free wine was very good !
Set menu at lunch is good value. Decent wine list. Good gluten free options. Outdoor seating available.
Great place - service was exceptional, would definitely go back
I had a table booked for 2 on a Friday night. Restaurant was a little quiet but we suspected this was due to the current climate. Was a great evening, food was 10/10 and the service was amazing. A special thanks to Rapu for making our evening so nice.
A lovely spot just a short walk from covent garden. Great wine list.
We had the set menu which was extremely good value.
The food was delicious.
Food and service excellent - no alcohol-free beer, sadly.
Lovely lunch, delicious food and really friendly helpful staff. Will definitely go back again soon.
I had a lovely lunch here with a friend. We had the lunch menu which offered plenty of choice for a great price. The food was amazing and I would really recommend the cod! The service was excellent and I will definitely come back and hopefully be able to enjoy the sunshine on the terrace!
Hi Elizabeth We are very warmed by such a positive review - it means a lot to us. Our new, full-sun terrace will definitely be a summer staple in Covent Garden, and we look forward to seeing you sat out there very soon.
I have just eaten the most delicious lunch at 28-50 restaurant in Covent Garden.
I loved the fact that there was seafood on the menu and enjoyed some tasty oysters for starter, followed by one of the most tender steaks I have eaten in a long long time. My friend chose a Burrata salad to start (which gave me food envy) and a cod dish which smelt and looked divine.
As with most restaurants, they have just re-opened but you would never know. The staff were excellent, attentive and welcoming and the service was slick.
The dining room is elegantly decorated and this combined with delcious food and great service makes this a restaurant I will come back to time and time again. Highly recommended.
So happy to be back again.
Lovely staff, food as ever was wonderful and off course... amazing wine.
Wedding lunch. Amazing staff. Jen was fab with last minute issues and our waiter was amazing.
Not great - frozen food for that price is really bad
Good morning. Nothing is frozen at our restaurants except our home-made ice-cream! Confused by your statement, to be honest. We're very sorry that you didn't enjoy your time with us though - especially after the wonderful Saturday when we finally re-opened. We hope you will try us again one day.
3-Stakes is less than average
4-Service is so so
5-Not recommended and won’t come back ever.
We're sad to receive your review, especially after the hard work of re-opening. Really disheartening. Saturday was such a wonderful experience, seeing so many of our regulars back. We don't agree that our steaks are less than average - we buy the best quality beef and our grill chef is very experienced. Service: so so - we will look into - but masks don't help communication to be honest. Our food margins are restaurant-standard - I'm sorry your felt it was overpriced. And dogs are welcome!
Excellent interior, very pleasant staff and interesting food. I say interesting because it was very fancy to my taste, so I cannot simply say it was delicious. I believe it was a little bit overpriced for what it was, but the amazing customer service has left an overall great impression. Would recommend this place for foodies.
I had a great evening on Sat. It was very relaxing, service was great and staff very friendly.
A top notch restaurant to try out post lockdown and enjoy with friends. It’s large and spacious so social distancing is respected with ease and they have a great new terrace to enjoy too ☺️
Very good experience for this first meal after lockdown. The staff was terrific and very polite. The food was delicious. We even had a complimentary glass of champagne at the end of our meal. I would recommend.
One of our favourite places to eat in London. The restaurant was quiet due to the impact of coronavirus in central London but we still had wonderful service and great food..... thanks to all and please stay well.
A very good dinner - crab and sea bass ceviche appetisers were great, my steak was well prepared and my wife's duck was delicious. Good service and atmosphere.
Welcoming, friendly and unhurried service. We were dining at an odd time, 16.30 in time for an early evening theatre performance, so in fairness there were not many other diners. The food was excellent, we all enjoyed the garden sharing platter and the duck was delicious. A good selection of wines at reasonable prices, and I'm sure the desserts would have been amazing but we ran out of time.
Excellent first visit. Inviting atmosphere, delicious food, and a top-notch wait staff. Will be back!
Ideal location for Covent Garden/Opera House, good food & service, nice surroundings, great wine list & overall excellent value for money.
Superb food and service in a comforting and friendly restaurant - highly recommend!
Food and service were fantastic, the fondue was so full of flavour and the accompaniments were perfect
We had a lovely meal and time at 28-50.
The staff were attentive and friendly- the food was delicious and the wines were fabulous.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience
This was a lovely venue with good food and exceptionally attentive and helpful staff. Karla was a delight and looked after us throughout. Great table and could watch the world go by too. thank you to all
Lovely venue with a great ambience. Service is excellent and very friendly and helpful. A great choice of food that enables you just have a bottle of wine and a cheese plate or, if you're feeling hungrier, a more more substantial meal. The burger was fantastic. Choice of wines was excellent and the fact you can get a decent bottle for £25 always get the thumbs up in my book.
We saw the rating is 4.6 on google that's why we went for birthday celebration. It looks different than expected, I guess it was the blue light that makes it looks less grand. We had the pre-theatre dinner, food wasn't great, it's rather a bit dull. The average age group that was in the restaurant was 50+ so wasn't sure if this restaurant's food was targeting towards this age group. Overall, not going to recommend this place if you are going for pre-theatre dinner set.
Hi Reviewer, We're so disappointed with your review. There's not much we can say except sorry. We have had many, many great reviews on the web and the papers since we opened, and all of the staff are working hard to make 28-50 Covent Garden one of London's best restaurants. Clearly you're not a fan, so once again - sorry. Kind regards, Yasmin.
Excellent lunch, with delicious desserts. Friendly and professional service. Definitely recommended.
Hi OwenW, Thank you for your kind words and for having recommended us. We hope that you will come back for some more delicious dessert very soon! Kind regards, Yasmin
Good location, nice interior, good but not amazing food for the high-prices. Music was too loud and we had to ask them to turn it down, but they were happy to do so. The restaurant was empty which was odd for a Saturday night in London. No real reason for this except the high prices in an area with lots of choice.
We love 28-50 and have been dining at their restaurant in Marylebone Lane for several years. We were delighted when they opened Covent Garden as this gives us a favourite place for food & wine when we are in the West End. The service is always professional & attentive. The menu options are varied and incorporate seasonal ingredients, perfectly cooked. Every dish is presented well and delicious. We always ask the sommelier to choose a glass of wine to go with each course, and as there is a very good selection of wines by the glass, this enhances our experience. Highly recommended.
Hi rlkSW1, Thank you for your lovely review! We are so pleased to hear that our restaurant is your favourite place to dine when in the West End and we love that you are taking advantage of our amazing sommeliers as well as enjoying the attentive service from our staff. We hope that you visit again soon! Kind regards, Yasmin
We had a delicious meal and my grandson adored the mussels! Our steaks were yummy and cheeseburger very much enjoyed. The chairs were oh so comfy, I wished I could have taken them home! Our waitress was charming and we received excellent service! My only negative was that the lighting was a bit subdued so a bit tricky to read the menu at first! We will definitely be back!
Hi JudyR, Thank you for your glowing review and we're delighted you and your family very much enjoyed your meal with us. We are also glad to hear that you love our plush chairs almost as much as we do and we hope to welcome you back in the near future. Kind regards, Yasmin
The food was excellent and the restaurant fabulous, gorgeous seating and colours. The set menu very good value.
However, service was very very slow.... even to getting a glass of wine served??
We repeatedly asked for bill as we had tickets booked and then the waitress asked us to calculate our own bill??
Hi Donna, Thank you so much for your review. We are very happy with the positives! Service was a bit slow for a few diners on Saturday evening as we had far more guests than had booked and were taken a little by surprise. We're very sorry about that. I'll look into the "calculate-your-own-bill" episode - very unusual! Once again, thank you for the review and I hope you will try us again one day. Kind regards, Yasmin
We have been used to go 28-50 in Maddox street and Marylebone for years as we do love the concept around food and wine variety.
However, now it is not part of the texture group any longer it has completely lost the wine concept.
The food is good but expensive and the wines are just standard (eg you can find them in most other restaurants).
The service was also quite haphazard.
Not sure we would rush back
Amazing steak, great wine, fantastic service! From start to finish a fabulous experience.
Hi ZacB, Thank you for such a lovely review! We are glad that you had a fabulous experience with us and we hope to welcome you back again soon for another one. Kind regards, Yasmin
Very good location. Great value lunch menu with a tasty fish pie. Will definitely recommend.
Hi JWatkins, Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed our fish pie - it is rather a favourite of ours. We hope to see you back again soon. Kind regards, Yasmin
