Great service, food was well timed out between our appetizers and main course, and the drinks were amazing!

I always want 30 Boltwood to be better than it is. It's such a lovely venue, but I always feel underwhelmed by the food compared to the price.

We sat at the table that was next to the table where the wait staff go in and out of the door. We were not bothered by this activity, but anyone sitting at that table would have constant traffic and a breeze. I would suggest putting up a 4-5foot partition at the one side of the table just to eliminate some of the noticeable activity from the wait staff movements. The partition could be decorative and white. I know had we been seated there as we have sat there on one other occasion I would have requested a move, it just isn’t a pleasant table and a minor fix like a partition pull help a lot.

Not as good as last time but still worthy. Last time the glazed duck drumettes were a knockout. This time there wasn’t much meat at all. The seafood stew was good but the scallops tasted slightly under cooked and why no shrimp? Finally the apple and cheese and turkey sandwich arrived without turkey which was rectified but just not that tasty...could have used some chutney or maybe a tastier cheese. Out waiter was very attentive and it’s still a great place for a good meal. Atmosphere is lovely for a visit.

The service was great.
The presentation was also great.
The drinks too.
The bread was great.
The squash soup was delicious.
The NY Sirloin was also delicious.
The Duck was just OK.
The beet risotto was bland.
It won't be my first choice for dining in Amherst, but I'll gladly give them another try at some point to see if the entrees are more uniformly first rate.

I would recommend with hesitation. I had a drink at the bar and was very impressed. Then had lunch. Server was mediocre at best. I had a Caesar salad. It was plain romaine. No Parmesan. Dressing was bland. Wine glass was very dirty. When I asked for Parmesan, the dish had a hair on it. Asked for ingredients for one menu item and was told the chef didn’t know so I had to Google it. I’ll try once more perhaps for dinner. But if not satisfied, that’s it for me.

We went to 30 Boltwood for a late Valentines brunch. I got the French toast and my husband got the innkeeper’s breakfast (eggs, sausage, home fries, and toast). The food was INCREDIBLE. Arguably the best French toast I’ve had - it was authentic and had great flavor with real maple syrup. I also stole some of his home fries which were delicious. It wasn’t too busy which was good - and even when it started to pick up for lunch towards the end it was still quiet. Our waiter was on top of things and brought our food out quickly! I do wish the water had ice in it and that they had a larger variety of beverages (like a mimosa) to offer for brunch, but we’re just getting petty at this point. We will definitely be back in the future!

This is a good place to bring your parents when they are paying (I say this as someone in their mid-40s). The food is well-prepared and nicely presented, but don't expect and culinary stretches here-- the menu focuses on tried-and-true American staples, fish, pasta, steak, chicken.

What stuck with me after the meal was that the food and the price-point did not meet. Don't get me wrong! The food was very good (though my husband's steak was a bit overdone and too thin), but for the price, I would expect more, either in actual food (the portions were moderately small) or in novel preparation or presentation. The service was impeccable, but overall the experience didn't quite ascend to the expectations I had given the bill.

We’ve eaten at many restaurants in western MA and this was by far the best meal to date! The duck leg appetizer was amazing..4 good sized and meaty legs with a crunchy sweet and spicy glaze over caramelized onions. We also had the cheese and meat platter which included 3 very nice cheeses and an assortment of meats with a nice mustard sauce. Could easily have made a meal of those with a salad but instead had the seafood stew which was full of scallops, clams, mussels, a good sized portion of Gish and lobster meat in a tomato saffron sauce. Took more than half home because the portion was so generous. The rest of the group had a beyond burger
which was reported to be delicious and salmon (ditto).
For dessert we each has a scoop of gelato. I thought the vanilla was a knockout but the chocolate chip fig was worth a taste if only for the novelty. We also shared the chocolate caramel tart which was plenty for 3 and sweet but not overly rich.
Our waiter was fabulous. He was attentive without being overbearing. He made great suggestions and was appropriately enthusiastic about the restaurant. The dining room is cozy and warm. There were not that many tables filled but even if it had been more crowded the tables and booths were set apart. Great ambiance for visiting.
Looking forward to trying out more of the menu.

The two of us had lovely meals. J. had duck and I a vegetarian dish that was especially tasty. Hummus platter was a great starter. Nice desserts, including homemade sorbets. Quiet ambience, attentive service. We will be back.

We were staying at the Inn for a nice night away from the kids and chose to eat at the restaurant for convenience’s sake. The decor is tasteful but bland, which was disappointing for an old, boutique hotel—I was hoping for some character and charm, but it just looks like a hotel restaurant. The service was friendly, but we got our appetizers immediately and had to wait a while to get our drinks, which messed up the usual rhythm of our meal. The menu is limited and not very imaginative. My salmon was beautifully seared but a little over cooked for my taste. My husband had no complaints about his steak, but didn’t rave either. The waiter was very nice about helping my husband figure out what non-alcoholic drink he could have and was happy that the bar offered a creative mocktail. The butter cake dessert was delicious (if quite sweet), which ended our dinner on a strong note. Solid restaurant but not worth a special trip.

We realize it was Christmas eve but we waited over an hour for our entrees. The pork chop was dry and tough, the top sirloin was super fatty and chewy. Appetizers, chowder and salads are fantastic. Servers kept forgetting us or trying to serve us other peoples orders.

We had a fantastic night! The bartender was terrific - she recommended a great new gin and mixed a great martini. The server we had was pleasant, knowledgeable, and the perfect level of "there when we wanted him, not when we didn't." The atmosphere was both soothing and filled with ebullience. We had a really good meal and an overall great night. I highly recommend this place for either a festive or romantic night out.

Overall, a very good meal. There aren't many restaurants of this quality in the Amherst area. The hummus appetizer was delicious. The seafood stew was also delicious. My wife had the chicken which was just okay. Service was very courteous and efficient.

Thanksgiving dinner out is tough
No one wants to work it and the places that are open are often overwhelmed
That being said there was no management presence ( seating time)
And the food was awful
Inoffensive would have been an improvement
I’ve has better prepared better tasting food on the rubber chicken circuit
The goat cheese tarte was cold and stale
The turkey was not freshly sliced prepared in a way to make the diner think it WAS carved ( white and dark meat)
But the portion control aspect was clear as day and no fat no drippings translates to tasteless stuffing
Inedible
My steak was cooked fresh and passable
The sides not
One passable dessert and the sorbet was a failed attempt at autumnal sophistication
Not a speck of bread offered
And a severely over priced wine list

Not a meal to be thankful for
Sorry

My grandmother used to regularly visit the Lord Jeffery Inn during the 70s for lunch on drives between CT and NH. We wanted to see what motivated her to visit. We were delighted with every aspect of our brunch experience and it won’t be our last visit.

One of our favorites in Amherst. Well managed, experienced cheerful staff, dependably excellent cusine. Our party had both beef dishes, the pork chop, a salad and lobster roll combination, and everyone was well pleased with their meals. The various desserts and a well chosen wine list complemented all choices. Speaking for myself, the filet of beef, served rare as ordered, was exquisite.

I found this gem of a restaurant during an online search for “good restaurants for lunch in Western Mass” and couldn’t be more thrilled! From the pictures on their impressive website to the variety of food offered, I knew I had to try it out. It DID NOT disappoint! The waitstaff was attentive but didn’t rush us and the food was perfect! The staff went above and beyond when I noted this was for a special occasion. I couldn’t have planned a better experience if I tried. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone & can’t wait to return! Thank you for one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
