44 Hill Street
We offer seasonal menus for you to share with friends and family, from a causal lunch to sharing plates to a full dining experience – you can enjoy it all with wine, beer, cocktails or bubbles!
The history of this building has ranged from a bonded warehouse to a butter merchants and now we bring you Forty-Four. The history of this vibrant restaurant is evident in the industrialised interior, from the exposed brick work to the metal beams dating back to the last century.
We were the only diners there on a Friday lunchtime. So no atmosphere.
Food very average
Service was good
Excellent service and varied menu. Would have like the portion of fish to be bigger.
welcoming, attentive staff even on a busy night. Food delicious
Beef Cheeks was the best Ive ever eaten . Service with a smile and great atmosphere .
Service was shocking. Two of the bruschettas came down cremated (mad that the chefs thought it was grand to dress then on top of it).
Said to the blonde girl and the look of pure disgust at us was incredible. Lifted it all up with out saying anything and when she came back fired it down on the table and didn’t even make eye contact.
First time ever any of us asked for the 10% service charge to be taken off at the end (which they added on for a table of 4 😑).
Won’t dine here again but will dine out on how awful the service was for years to come.
Went Sunday. Staff friendly, but felt like the food could have been a lot stronger. Got the sense that we were eating the previous night’s reheats.
Lovely meal, great service, though alcohol prices (real ales) were a little on the expensive side. Would go again but pay more attention to the bar tab building up.
We selected the roast beef special and the meat proved to be very fatty.?also some of the vegetables were undercooked
It was a very disappointing experience at 44HillStreet on Saturday night. 8 of us were out, all food was cold and 1 meal returned because the burger was still frozen in the middle. One of our diners didn’t get their meal until nearly everyone else had finished theirs. Two other groups of diners also complained whilst we were there, one even came to our table to angrily remonstrate with the staff. Awkward and disappointing experience, we won’t be back. In fairness, one meal was partially refunded however don’t recall staff being particularly apologetic.
This was my third time at the restaurant - it’s been outstanding every time. Great, friendly service and delicious food at reasonable prices.
Had a really nice meal with plenty of ambience. Food and wine excellent.
Great selection on menu, waiting staff very friendly and food was really tasty. Only negative was that it was expensive.
Second time in the restaurant, we had tapas the previous time and main courses this time. The food was very good, 2 different bruschetta to start and fish for mains, my husband opting for steak. The service was very nice, I chatted away to the girl who showed us to our table and everything arrived in good time with regular top ups of our table water. The restaurant was about half full so it had a warm cosy atmosphere. My only very small issue was that when I said we wouldn't have dessert we were immediately brought the bill despite only being half way through our wine. The bill was settled very soon after and I felt a bit rushed, there were other tables available and we hadn't been informed the table was needed so I don't know why the bill was settled so early. It meant that when we left we totally forgot to leave a tip as the bill was forgotten, something I feel badly about as the service was great. It is a very nice restaurant.
We would definitely recommend 44 Hill St. This is a very comfortable restaurant with delicious food and very friendly staff. We had lunch which we thought was excellent value for money and serving authentic mainly French food though the main menu was varied with lots of choice. We are looking forward to our next visit already.
Never disappointed in this place been on many occasions and every time excellent food / service and staff. Thanks
Really lovely restaurant, couldn't fault anything about it - service was brilliant, food fabulous and atmosphere was very relaxed. Loved it.
I bit pricey for the quality they offer. Nothing special tbh. Just ok-ish
There is a lot of competition in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter but 44 is up there. It is the combination of location, French food and Wine, service and reasonable prices. No pretences but works well. We have been twice this year so far and last time with four was last Friday.
Everything I ordered was cold and bland. Wouldn’t recommend.
A reasonable 6/10
Great to see new restaurants opening in Belfast but this has a long way to go to match the high standards set by some nearby competitors.
One meal wrong - as in a different fish from that ordered
Then the steaks mixed up and the sauces on incorrect plates.
Mixed vegetables not worth ordering
Not even a decent rum at the bar
Hope it improves - atmosphere was generally good
Service was fast and efficient and the food was second to none. Would definitely recommend and will be back in the future.
Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere and great wine.. would recommend it :)
Food wasn’t quite as excellent as previous visits. A mistake in their order taking was dealt with by charging me extra. I don’t like to cause a fuss when with my children so didn’t raise further after the initial, ignored, highlighting of same.
Hopefully this was a one off.
Unfortunately I would not recommend 44, I did not feel the food was value for money, the breads to start were burnt, the main meals were not the nicest we have had out and I do not beleive the service was great, one of the team members was very nice and when she came over was very pleasant. Our order being taken and the food being served was slow and we were not checked during our mains, my main meal was disappointing.
We were asked when we paid the bill at the end of the night at how it was, I replied it was alright, the team member said thanks and took the payment.
Compared to other restaurants near by, the service isn't as good or welcoming, the food isn't as nice and is more expensive
Lovely evening with excellent service and lovely food. Would definitely recommend and will be back.
Food was outstanding, very relaxed atmosphere! Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
Good selection of tapas food-limited main course choice
One particularly ignorant waiter-The French guy, that spoiled the experience for our group
We ordered the tapas, some bruchettas and sharing boards. The food was all lovely. The only reason I marked a 3/5 for food quality was the dessert really let the meal down. Four of us ordered the sticky toffee puddings. It was quite tasteless, and incredibly dry-verging on stale. At £6 per dessert it was vastly overpriced for the quality-budget supermarket versions are far superior.
Good service, great ambience, majority of food lovely, work on your sticky toffees!
Finally able to go try this place and it was lovely. Will be back. Bigger than I was expecting and service was great. Would probably want to order more next time. Yummy
Nice food, decent selection of vegetarian options. Desserts look amazing.
The service was shockingly slow. When the tapas starter arrived, two of the dishes were cold. The meat balls felt almost frozen.
Then they forgot our main course, as the waiter had forgotten to submit the order to the kitchen. We were eventually waiting over an hour.
The food was only mediocre with one exception, the goat cheese balls with lavender honey.
Been for lunch and now dinner very good service. Great wine list and vegan choices. Good atmosphere and service was attentive.
We chose this restaurant because the menu has something for everyone, the sharing platters were delicious.
Friendly and efficient service on a busy friday night. Good choice of starters and mains. Really enjoyed the Tapas and delicious chicken for mains. Nice selection of wines. left feeling very satisfied and that good value for money. If you in Belfast give this place a try. You will not be disappointed
Warm welcome into vibrant atmosphere with great service and food to match
Service dreadful. No one came to take drinks order. Got sides 20 minutes after main and had to remind waitress we still hadn’t got them. At that point all cutlery had been removed so nothing to eat them with took another 5 mins before we could flag anyone down to get it sorted. No apology. I thing just poor poor service. Wouldn’t recommend at all. Menu also not as promoted on website. Mains limited.
We had a very nice meal here. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was a bit different and interesting and was very tasty. The menu was varied and all seven of us were easily able to choose courses to our taste(s). The wine list was well thought out in terms of variety and cost. We would certainly go back and we would recommend the restaurant to friends and family.
Very friendly staff. Delicious tapas and wine. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic food... Specials are good. Service great, very attentive but not over zealous. Would recommend
We found 44 perfect for a pre theatre meal. Asked for and got moved to a corner table. Now know that you can request a table location on booking. Shared three excellent tapas as a starter - confit prawns, crispy lamb belly and hummus filled baby peppers. Mains were chicken stuffed with herb and chestnut in a delicious cream sauce and sea bream. Both spot on. Delighted that a bit of Bastille French cuisine has found a new home.
