When we arrived there was no one to greet us and walk us to the table. This resulted in us sitting down at 4:10 when our booking was for 4 o’clock. At 4:45 we were then told by staff that the group booked in at 5 o’clock had arrived early, we were told that we would have to move to which I replied we are booked until 5. We then felt uncomfortable because they sat the group near us who felt it was appropriate to stare at us until we left. Not a great experience unfortunately. I would recommend to friends but I would share my experience to prepare them.

Am unable to comment on the food as only had a mince pie, the ambience was good couldn’t see why had to book table. as we only had a drink an had to find a table to sit at. Drinks very expensive so only had one. this a review on the Aprea ski. And only for drinks. Didn’t see anyone having food.

Really sorry for this review as staff were very pleasant but the service was very slow , one of our party has to eat on a regular basis I had to ask for a slice of toast before our food was served . Such a shame but hopefully in time it will improve and we will return as staff were friendly and food was good but wait was far too long .

I booked and paid in advance for three champagne afternoon teas and a regular afternoon tea. When asked, I highlighted that it was for a birthday celebration. I also listed details for three vegetarians, two of whom had different allergies. When we arrived, the Maitre de seemed confused, knew nothing about our booking, didn’t take my name or any other details and then proceeded to set the table for three people. We had this corrected and our champagne arrived, plus a small pot of tea. The champagne was warm and flat with different measures, and only one full glass. We waited for the afternoon tea to arrive, which the champagne would accompany, and after 30 minutes of no sign, checked at the bar. Once again, we were asked to clarify our order, including the allergies. The food arrived at 3.45pm and the waitress acting as duty manager was very apologetic and helpful in checking we had everything as ordered. If it wasn’t for her and the food being as expected, I would have felt compelled to speak to a senior manager. It was also cold with the door being left open, and the lamps nearby were flickering a lot. For a 4-star hotel, this is an unacceptable level of poor customer service and not what we would have expected, especially for a celebration tea. The staff seemed overwhelmed with a busy situation and woefully inexperienced, and I thought it was important to highlight.

Great place! Well positioned in the heart of Bath. Welcoming staff and good service. Food was simple and good. Fun sitting out on the pavement dining area and watching life go by in this busy and beautiful World Heritage city.

Unfortunately, this wasn't one of our favorite meals on our trip. While the location is near many of the attractions and accommodations, the food and ambiance left something to be desired. While sitting in the indoor dining space, there were two groups of flies buzzing around the dining space (10-20 each), which we often had to brush away from our food/beverages. For the food, we were there for the afternoon tea service. When the food was delivered to our table, the bread was hard/crusty on the sandwiches, leading us to believe they were prepared well ahead of time and exposed to air for a while. Unfortunate.

Unfortunately our experience was not a good one. We arrived for our afternoon tea, and we were greeted at the door and sat in the back room with a bridal party. There was no music and a not so lovely view of the tea and coffee making facilities. Dirty mugs on the table, open sugar cups and tonnes of flies milling around the room. We got offered tea and coffee, which came out in incredibly stained teapots. We then proceeded to wait 40 minutes for our food, which when it came out was incredibly disappointing. It was different to the menu online and it predominantly looked shop bought. The sandwiches were very dry and the whole thing was really lacking in anything ‘nice’. We were not offered any more drinks, this may be down to the fact we probably saw 2 members of staff in our entire visit because the majority were in the main restaurant which seemed to have a lovely ambience. Not sure why we were shoved in the back room!! Our party complained and we left having not eaten any of our food. We were offered a full refund. We booked for my 30th based on the pictures on the website and the menu on the website and it definitely did not live up to expectations!

I had really high hopes for this afternoon tea but unfortunately I was left severely disappointed. Customer service was extremely poor with the member of staff very rudely sending us away to seat ourselves at a table without a hello or a smile. It then took ages for us to be served with the waitress spending more time cleaning tables that were already clean rather than waiting on customers that were waiting for 15 minutes. When the food eventually arrived, it didn't match the food written on the menu. The sandwiches were dry, cakes not very appealing and just not nice to eat. The tea was just a standard English breakfast tea and not loose leaf like what was stated on the menu. We were not even given proper teacups. The venue was very tired looking; the chairs were very worn. It did not give an afternoon tea feel that I have experienced at other restaurants. We were told to sit right by the bar so had the noise of the staff making drinks for customers disturbing us throughout. Would not go there again for afternoon tea and would definitely not recommend! So many better places in Bath for a good quality afternoon tea.

Couldn’t recommend enough, it was the perfect way to celebrate my partners birthday! The staff went above and beyond for us to make our experience memorable and special, which it certainly was! Our waitress Annie/Sally (didn’t quite catch her name) was very attentive and so friendly. They bought out a special birthday dessert which was a lovely surprise and he loved it! Delicious selection of sandwiches and cakes, cocktails were also very good.

Good value for money, the afternoon tea was well presented and tasty. It didn’t have the bells and whistles you normally get with afternoon teas, e.g a choice of tea and having the tea served in china cups, and whilst the person who served us was absolutely lovely, once the food was served we didn’t see them again. We were also served in what was essentially the bar area, again whilst it was well decorated etc, it would have been lovely to be in the main dining room which was a bit more of a unique environment and had views of the square. Overall I would recommend it, especially for the very reasonable price, but it wasn’t the type of very special experience afternoon tea usually is.

Bread was a let down for the sandwiches it tasted and looked like a supermarket brand. Ordered a Bath Gin and tonic - no gin had to choose another. Soft drink ordered didn’t have it had to change. Pictures and advertised on traditional stands and it came out on plates Scones looked quite well done and so a lot of icing sugar or something was dusted over the top. Mostly macaron type pudding not a lot of variety Big party in so was quite loud Not recommending the afternoon tea

Perhaps as a hotel dining room, they're only really set up for breakfast. Certainly we seemed to take them by surprise at lunchtime - even though we'd booked in advance. The service was perfectly friendly but very slow. Half an hour after placing our order the waiter came back to tell us that the chef's special had changed. The fish and chips were dull. The special 'tomato and prawn' pasta had a huge (and unadvertised) amount of chilli in it. To the waiter's credit, our drinks were knocked off the bill - but, at least at lunchtime, I'd give this one a swerve.

It was Mother’s Day . Service was poor until the second half of the people that served us came along . Ordered 2 coffees and a bottle of water , first person got 2 out of 3 wrong Good design throughout restaurant and hotel in general but it seemed like it was a pain to serve us . Staff eating on duty ! Food was ok , as a bath resident I would suggest anyone staring at this hotel to go elsewhere for breakfast .

Found this very basic. Booked it for a bride to be and there were no nice touches whatsoever. The afternoon tea was very basic indeed . The sandwiches for the non vegetarian some had just a piece of cucumber and another a tomotatoe and oepper well that to me is vegetarian. No effort put in whatsoever and I booked this over a month ago . Would not recommend or visit again so so disappointed and let done for my daughter in laws to be special day

Good selection of food. Endless tea and coffee included which was much appreciated. Only reason not given 5 stars was that it would have been nice to have had three of everything as there were three of us. Great place to meet up would definitely recommend.

We booked for 7.30 at 8.45 no meal. Waitress told us they didn't have one iofthe meals we ordered. 9.00 told no food coming out of kitchen and that the chef wasn't talking to anyone! No one who had ordered after 7.00 had any food. We were told if we could get in anywhere else to do so! The other table ordered Deliveroo! Felt so sorry for lovely waitresses!

Only ones dining until Christmas group of woman came in, who were loud but it removed the silence and quite funny at times. Until then zero atmosphere. Door to outside kept being left open by staff making the room feel instantly cold. Different staff just wondering backwards and forwards constantly. Staff were dressed very casually like they’d just walked off street and didn’t look like they would work there. If we were not going to be charged due to a booking deposit we would have left before dinner. Food was ok but very limited menu and the whole experience did not feel value for money and felt disappointed with ourselves for spending so much on a meal and experience that was really nothing special and what was hoped Staff who waited on us though were good so can’t fault that

This was a really nice experience with the exception of already opened and used jam pot on the afternoon tea plus a pot of marmalade instead of jam? This was rectified very quickly by staff and the service was excellent.

Nothing like the photo on the website. Sandwiches made with all white sliced supermarket bread and must have been left out before serving as the bread had gone crusty (stale). Dirty cup and tea pot, sticky patches on the table. Scones were dry and only enough clotted cream for one (table for two). One of the cakes was very unpleasant (Victoria sponge - how difficult is it to get that right). If I hadn’t have paid in advance I would have sent it back. This should have been a special occasion for a sister who traveled almost 200 miles to visit. Very poor food, nothing like it was billed on the website and not worth the money paid. Avoid - queue for one of the other afternoon tea options rather than booking this in advance.

It was fine, service wasn’t amazing. When we arrived had to go looking for someone to seat us. Our drinks took quite a while to arrive. The waitress kept on saying they were really busy when the restaurant wasn’t full at all. Overall the experience was fine but wouldn’t book there again.

It was a disaster; there was absolutely no record of my booking even though I had the confirmation so that was an embarrassing start. We ate in the art bar which had a much nicer atmosphere than the restaurant (which was stark and empty) but the service was awful. It wasn't rude service, in fact I felt sorry for some of the staff. It was more that there weren't enough of them. Hard to get served, even to get a cocktail menu, waiting for orders, delays, run out of food. Halloumi with horseradish blobbed on one part of a bagel was not good. Then a leak in the ceiling. This was a 50th birthday celebration but it really ruined our evening and I felt awful because I had booked it. Very disappointing when it could have been so good.

I wasn't able to book a table for 10 so had to book two tables of five. The reception staff seemed shocked that we had booked for food as if they didn't realise they did food and suggested we ask in the bar. A male at the bar took our details and said he'd let the kitchen know. 20 mins later he hadn't come back so I went to find him only for him to deny having ever spoken to me. We were eventually seated, in an otherwise empty dining room so they were hardly rushed off their feet. The food was hit and miss some we had to send back. The surroundings were lovely but the staff were clueless. Would not recommend.

Very nice friendly service, plenty of offers of more tea and coffee. The afternoon tea was generous in quantity and the sandwiches were fine and the scones very nice but the rest of the items (a selection of cakes and an 'Eton Mess') were all very disappointing and we didn't eat them. The cakes were all very dense and tasteless (shop bought rather than made on the premises I think) and the mini 'Eton Mess' was just a glass of sweetened cream with one strawberry on top. The dining room was a big dark and depressing.

Food was very mediocre for afternoon tea. Rough sandwiches varying in shape, scones microwaved to the point of hardened and had to be returned deserts barely defrosted and whipped cream rather than clotted. Tea was twinnings everyday no options offered. Other people walked out. Waitress was really nice and we felt sorry for her

We had the afternoon tea, which was delicious, great choice of sandwiches and cakes. We were given a complimentary glass of Prosecco as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was quiet and relaxing in the bar which had beautiful decor and interesting works of art. Would highly recommend.

We had a fabulous meal for our extended family. Tasty, great fresh ingredients, something for everyone and it was both delicious and hot! I cannot praise the Abbey Hotel Kitchen highly enough for our lovely meal. The staff were brilliant and we will most definitely be returning in the future

To be honest I was a bit disappointed. It seemed a bit pricey for what it was. Beautiful surroundings and great service but food that was a bit ordinary. Perhaps Covid has had an effect with the amount of choice available as well.
