Abyssinia Restaurant
The Ethiopian food served at Abyssinia comes from recipes tracing back millennia. The ingredients and spices that make up these recipes either originated in Ethiopia or were brought there through trade over the Red Sea. These recipes were passed down from king to king and generation to generation and are now available to our customers.
Come to Abyssinia and taste Ethiopia's history and culture in one meal.
The best that Central Ny has to offer! EXCELLENT!
Good food + Good service + Fair Price = Great Experience
They make the best Ethiopian food! The injera is awesome. It is not a fancy place, but it is very comfortable. It is family run and the owners are very nice and helpful and the cost is very reasonable.
Food was excellent but they only had one waiter on staff for my 8pm reservation. Very polite but service was extremely slow for a Valentines/Friday night out with the restaurant half full. Not sure how many were on staff in the kitchen but food took way too long to arrive as well. However, the food quality is excellent and of great value.
The food is really good and the staff are friendly. But even though the place was only 1/3 full because it was early the food service was incredibly slow. There seemed to be only one person serving tables so I can't imagine going later in the evening.
I went with a friend. We go to different types of restaurants just to try new things. I really enjoyed the food. It was delicious and the price was very good. Not sure using flatbread for a utensil is good for Diabetics but it was really good food. I will definitely go again
This modest eatery was a delight: the food was exceptionally delicious, the staff very courteous and helpful and the value superior. This is not a fancy place - and that is part of its charm. Expect a great meal at a reasonable price prepared by experts who know and love Ethiopian cuisine.
It was great!
The food seems to be very good - I qualify because I have very little experience with Ethiopian food, I enjoyed the meal, had the lamb dish. It is challenging eating with right hand and no flatware, just the injera bread to transport food to mouth. Service was very slow again not sure if this is to be expected but an hour wait for the meal did seem excessive. If inclined to have a new experience and willing to accept slow service would highly recommend. Friend who had wine were not thrilled with the wine. I had an Ethiopian beer which was enjoyable.
I had never experienced Ethiopian food before. I was delighted with the flavors and aromas. Food was delicious and plentiful. Service was attentive and the environment very calm and intimate.
The food at Abyssinia Restaurant is outstanding. I love the vegetarian platter with injera.
The vegetarian combo is excellent and works well for vegans, too! It is the only thing I ever have because it is so good. It is quiet, but would prefer they didn't have big screen tv. They were showing golf while we were there.
We enjoyed our meal. Very good.
There was only one waitress for the whole restaurant. She was patient with us.
We waited for quite a while before our meal was delivered.
Exceptional food!!! Great service! I will definitely go back and recommend to my family and friends!
The service, food, ambiance, wine, and everything was outstanding. I can't say enough to praise this place. Excellent.
5 Stars
great food
quiet atmosphere
wish i live in rochester id eat there one a wk
Mixed reviews on the food - some loved it, some not. My dish was too spicy for me even though I asked the server. Server was not very friendly or helpful. We mentioned we were not there before.
Great flavors, really, really nice and helpful staff. Just personally I don't like the spongy, cold bread.
We’ve been here before, and as always, a great experience. Staff is amazing, the food is great! First time we went was as a recommendation from a close friend from Ethiopia.
The food is excellent, and the owners are the most wonderful people. I'm so glad they are a part of Rochester. I've been going to Abyssinia, for about 19 years. They never disappoint.
Authentic and delicious Ethiopian food. We shared the special dinner platter (#3). It is worth being adventurous and trying the raw beef. It was delicious and spicy - my favorite dish of the night. The staff are very attentive and friendly. We look forward to a return visit soon!
Great Ethiopian fare served traditionally. However, they will provide utensils upon request. All of the vegetarian dishes were excellent. The lamb was a little salty but still very good. Ambiance is almost completely lacking but the food more than makes up for it.
Great food
Slow service but people are so nice it’s ok
Flavors were spectacular
Loved it all
Will recommend and return
Vegetarian platter was outstanding, tasty and filling. I’m not a vegetarian but ordered for variety and was rewarded
Good job!
Very cool experience and the food was great. It was our first time Stan Ethiopian place and it was very enjoyable.
Ok experience, hardly any meat in the meal, the bowl was mostly bread as filler. Nice people, though they leave you alone and did not check in.
This was an informal date night for my partner and I to grab a bite to eat. My third or fourth visit. The hosts/staff are very friendly and kind. Very helpful in answering any questions about the food selections. Such a cool and delicious cultural experience!
As always- terrific food, gracious service
Several of our party had never eaten Ethiopian food. The staff were welcoming, the food was excellent
