Run by Abdel and Frances Boukraa – he hailing from Djerba, Tunisia, she English born and bred – Adam’s Café is a thriving family affair which has grown over the years to become one of Shepherds Bush’s most popular restaurants. A café by day and a restaurant serving North African cuisine by night, Adam’s Café is a bustling local hub, informal and authentic, decorated in mosaics and cheerful colours. It may serve the biggest and best breakfast on Askew Road but this is no greasy spoon. Visit in the evening and find yourself greeted by the spice infused aromas of Tunisia and Morocco. The menu consists simply of couscous dishes alongside grills and tagines, each based precisely on Abdel’s experience of home cooking. You really won’t find a more authentic taste of North Africa in the capital.

A rare gem: small, owners-run and unchanging – in the best possible way. Lovely hearty tagines, grills, salads and cous cous in cosy, spotless dining room. Warm but discreet service. Have been going for years and have never had anything less than a lovely evening. Food and atmosphere hit the spot always. Prices have increased only very slowly over the (many) years for fixed-price menu, so value for money is amazing. Wish more places were like Adam's Cafe.

As always, Adam's Café provides food, drink, and service that are faultless.

I had sardines chermoula followed a couscous royal. My dining companion had mechouia salad and marmite du pêcheur.

We drank rose lemonade and sparkling water.

Portions were generous, and the food was good enough to lick your plate clean. My main course came with lamb on the bone, which I love.

No room for dessert - but had there been, my standard request is for the salade d'oranges à la cannelle.

A place at which I have dined many times, and to which I hope to return.

Revisit after 20 years. Still as charming as it always was. Good food, good value and the owners are there every night offering just the right level of service and information about the food and menu. Not glitzy but a great place to have a very relaxing dinner.

Delicious mostly Tunisian dishes including a memorable Brique a l'oeuf. Substantial starters on the house. Fish soup a bit firey for some. Very reasonable wines, busy but not noisy, attentive service and excellent value.

Very good and authentic Tunisian cuisine from the brik, to the merguez to the vegetarian couscous. My don’t miss choice every time I go to London. Only black mark: no Prosecco by the glass !

One of the only and best places in London where you can eat authentic North African food. All the dishes are fantastic. I recommend the Couscous Royale.

London is sorely lacking in North African restaurants. This is one of the best and most authentic as well as very reasonably priced. It is a long-standing London culinary landmark.

A hidden gem that makes you want to shout it from the rooftops while at the same time keep it quiet so it doesn't get too busy when you want to go there yourself. Food is tasty (and not at all salty - a common restaurant problem), very good value and filling. The staff are attentive and friendly and the ambience is just right. Highly recommended.
