Aditi Indian Dining - Alexandria
Leavened white flour bread, freshly baked in our clay oven
seasoned potato & peas wrapped in a light pastry pouch
shrimp sauteed in a rich tomato cream sauce & tempered with mustard; accompanied with garlic bread bits
Food was excellent. They also have a kid's menu if you have little ones who don't like curries. The service was great.
Any kitchen can have an off-night, and this might have been one. We're regulars and had a Good Meal, but it was late on a slow Friday night, and the usual high quality wasn't quite there. The Baby Spinach Chaat wasn't as hot and crispy & Tamarindy as we remembered. Some of the breads in our basket were cold, and our entrees came hard on the heels of our appetizers and salads, so we felt a tad rushed. The cheese in my sweetie's Paneer Makhani tasted a little "refrigerator-y". My Lamb Biryani had lotsa lamb and balanced spices, but was merely good, not stellar, as I remembered: I'm a lamb and goat lover, so these flavor memories stick with me. The dessert Rasmalai and Kheer also tasted like they had a few days of age on them, rather than super-fresh. Good value though... when the check arrived and I saw the total, I thunk to myself "Not Bad! Not Bad at all for the full I got and tastes I sampled".
It was a great experience and the staff was great.
Incredible food and excellent service. I had the Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan and I could not have been happier. I will definitely be returning soon.
I've always loved the experience and food here--this time they didn't measure up on the service and for some of the food. I made the reservation and arrived 2 minutes before they officially opened at 5:30. No one was rushing around inside to get ready--in fact, those I saw were moving around rather leisurely. It was a freezing cold day and although they could see me standing at the door no one would come to open until after 5:30. The food this time was not as good as in the past--tandoori chicken was very dry. Although the restaurant was far from full, service was slow with a lack of attention at times. Had to summon the waiter to take our order. Water glasses were filled a few times. The check and a continer for leftovers were requested at the same time. Container was provided to self-move the leftover soup and after waiting more than minutes after the container arrived, had to summon the waiter a second time to ask for the check.
We have dined at Aditi since it first opened in Kingstowne and before that at the Georgetown location. We have never had a bad experience. The food is always delicious, the staff are polite and friendly, and the atmosphere is superb. I strongly recommend dining at Aditi!
Food is always great,so is the service
Fantastic service and excellent food.
I don’t enjoy Indian food but I set this dinner up for a friend who wanted Indian food. I was pleasantly surprised and willing to go back. The lamb vindaloo was really good and the service was quick and polite
Between the poor service, lack of authentic Indian flavor, this wannabe Rasika is overpriced and overrated. We made a reservation, waited for 10 minutes before being acknowledged by anyone, and when we were finally given any attention, we were told it’s a 25-min wait. So we stated we had a reservation, and it turns out they gave our table to someone else. Ok. Then, they tried to seat the 3 of us in a table for 2 people, didn’t even offer a 3rd chair. I guess we were supposed to huddle on the bench. I asked for a bigger table and was told the small table is what’s available. But I saw a family with 3 kids leaving. So the waiter shows me their dirty table and is like, is this what you want?
Ok so now on to food. The baby spinach chaat is a poor imitation of Rasika’s palak chaat. It was soggy and barely edible. Our tawa fish curry was cold & tasteless, as was the Gobi Manchurian. The butter chicken was the only dish that came out hot. But it was made with fatty chicken thighs. Who does that except those that want to cut costs?
Any self-respecting Indian will not dine here for authentic Indian food that is way overpriced. Check out Rasika in DC or go to Curry House in Burke, VA - excellent authentic Indian flavor and superb customer service.
The ambiance is great.... unless you are seated by the door on a cold and rainy day. Every time a new patron enters you get a cold breeze of air. The server wasn’t incredibly attentive and they weren’t able to modify my chosen dish to my needs... unlike just about every restaurant of Indian cuisine I’ve ever been to... how difficult is it to put the same sauce you use on the chicken tikka masala onto potatoes and cauliflower instead? Well, the server assured me it couldn’t be done and then man-splained to me about how masala is just the term for spices not a specific sauce like I don’t know what garam masala is and haven’t been making this from scratch myself at home. He assured me the aloo gobi would be served dry without a sauce so I ordered it extra spicy thinking to add the sauce from my husband’s chicken tikka masala and be fine. It came out instead drenched in another dark tomato sauce that was very spicy like I enjoy my food but absolutely no flavor beyond the heat. It wasn’t even a recognizable vindaloo or anything... it was like a can of tomato paste with some onion and some chili powder thrown in.... in a word, disgusting. I ate it because it was dinner and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast but I would never stop here again.
We have eaten at Aditi several times and have never been disappointed. We had a shrimp curry that was spectacular. We also had the spinach with cheese dish and an samosa. We left very satisfied and happy.
Once again, Aditi’s did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the portions generous, and the service very attentive! 5 stars!
Great service and excellent food whether an appetizer, soup, or entrée.
Extremely good food - would return again. Nice atmosphere.
Excellent food, service, and value. All of the dishes were wonderful. The only caveat was that the spinach chat was spicy and not as crunchy as usual. Beside this single minor issue, I would highly recommend Aditi.
We have been to Aditi to celebrate many special occasions. The service and food are always consistently very good. Authentic Indian food.
Delicious Food! My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful time. First time here, the reviews did not fail us. It’s a very laid back environment. The servers didn’t rush at all. And I’m sorry, but yes, the food is absolutely amazing, BUT, what I truly appreciated the service. They were present and always around but didn’t hover or rush us. And the check. I can’t stand when a server brings the check and says “take your time”. I will come here again because they understand that doing that means “please leave, I’m done with you”. Probably an odd thing to pin point, but I really appreciated it. Food was amazing!
Great weekend buffet.
We had the lunch buffet and thought it was excellent!
Alas, we were disappointed this time, and it was sad since we were taking friends who had not fined here. A lamb kebab dinner that one friend ordered was tough; she was as reluctant to complain, so I spoke up, and she ordered the chicken thika, which was better. My order of aloo hobo was mostly potatoes- there should have been more cauliflower. In previous dinners, we had been delighted. A off night.
Consistently our favorite go back to restaurant after trying out others!
We always eat here but this day we had to wI so lo g for the food. Never got our regular witer i requested. I complained many times after waiting for an order to go. What upset me the manager never came to apologize. We were ignored even from our waiter. The food was great as always
Definitely worth visiting.
We have always enjoyed dining at Aditi, and as a party of six we went there last Monday. Unfortunately, one of our party said, as we were leaving, that his stomach felt funny. He was worse through the night, and was in a lot of pain on Tuesday (and had to fly back to Denver Tuesday night). We all shared the appetizers and the naan, but he was the only one to have the Butter Chicken. We brought home the leftovers, but threw it out on Tuesday. Not sure what caused this incident but think you should know. Yes, we would still recommend Aditi to friends, and will most likely come back again.
Anniversary celebration. We loved the food and the atmosphere. The staff was very attentive up until waiting for the check. I finally just stood up and we moved to the door so someone finally acknowledged us and brought us a check. In my opinion there was far too long of a wait from when they brought us To Go boxes until they brought us the check. But we loved everything else and will eat there again for sure!
Our food was delicious. I got the non-veg Thali with chicken platter and it had the perfect assortment of different kinds of foods.
Delicious Sunday night supper with out-of-town friends who had a jones for Indian food. Aditi did not disappoint. Mint Ginger Lemonade perfect for a hot Spring evening. Spinach Chat appetizer was a great hit all around. Entrees excellent. Bread Basket scrumptious. Aditi is our go-to neighborhood colorful ethnic restaurant of choice.
Great food, ambiance, pricing, and service! Aditi is my favorite Indian restaurant in Alexandria.
The food was wonderful! Can’t wait to go back. The only disappointment was the garlic naan. Only wanted garlic taste but it was heavily buttered and we couldn’t enjoy it. The meal itself was delicious.
Great place, it was our first time. We got there early and Jerry was able to accommodate us. Staff and servers are polite and very attentive to customers. The food was delicious and well worth the money. Jerry noticed we had been waiting for our appetizers to come and brought a complimentary dish to try (spinach wafers?) which was great. Since we were celebrating an anniversary event they also brought complimentary Kulfi in the end which was delicious. Will definitely return for their service and good food.
We went to Aditi for a birthday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience. The spinach and brussels sprouts appetizers are amazing, and all of us also very much enjoyed our main dishes. Great service too!
I had the tandoori platter. Once again...it was delicious. Can't wait to return.
The food was good but the service and price were less than desirable.
I had the non-veg thal for dinner. Not only was it delicious but also the portions were generous. I was stuffed! Thank you for an excellent meal.
Went for my grandmother in law’s birthday, it was her first time and she really enjoyed it! We all did! The only issue we had was with the naan not being out with the appetizers we had. They waited till the food came out to bring it.
Good, not great...and be advised that they don't have a lighted sign so it's a bit hard to find their location at night.
This was a recommendation and it did not disappoint. I would definitely return and try something new although what I had was delicious. Bonus extras were eaten the next day and as good as the original!
My favorite Indian restaurant
My colleague from India says it's the most authentic Indian restaurant in the area. It's delicious! The chicken saag that I first ordered when I visited this restaurant 20 years ago is no longer on the menu, but they'll still make it for you.
This was the first place my wife and I ate when we started dating, so it holds a special place in our hearts.
