Afternoon Tea at Caffe Concerto - Shaftsbury Av
Excellent location close to theatres, good menu choices, good food and very good service even though very busy and apparent shortage of staff.
We had a lovely experience I took my mum for a treat before going to the theatre. She loved it. Great food.
Perfect place to meet pre theatre. Our 6pm booking was intended for a quick, pre theatre supper and we got exactly what we wanted. Friendly and efficient service, a good ambience, and a broad choice of dishes (including afternoon tea if we'd wanted). Delicious pasta, generous salads, and a wide range of other choices: salmon, fish and chips, meat and chicken dishes. Lots of smaller options if you didn't want a main course. And a one minute walk from the Apollo theatre. Ideal
Our waiter, i didnt catch his name, but a short fair man with an accent was absoloutley amazing. So accommodating and helpful, and just made our visit even more enjoyable. The food and prosecco were also incredible! Will definitley return
Firstly we did not have afternoon tea, we booked for an early evening meal.
We were seated quickly, and then as another table became vacant moved to a larger table.
My friend ordered goats cheese starter and was served mozzarella sticks, when he pointed this out to the waiter, the waiter asked who had taken the order, my friend pointed out the waitress who was called over and she asked" do you not like them
?" to which my friend again pointed out this was not what he had ordered, eventually they were removed from the table but by the time the correct starter was served I had finished mine...
When main courses arrived my friend asked if he could have some bread to go with his, the waitress appeared with two pale slices from a cheap and nasty sliced loaf!!
Dessert was the best part of the meal.
We refused to pay the 12 and a half % service charge which caused much confusion and four members of staff to attend at the table one by one while paying the bill.
I was unable to use the toilet as it was disgustingy dirty and with no toilet paper.
Would I recommend? ....only if you want coffee and cake.
I thought the food was lovely and found it all very charming. However, the service was the only area which I felt let it down as a few of the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and it was a bit disappointing. The manager was brilliant but we could tell that she was struggling due to a few of the staff being less successful at creating a peaceful dining experience. However overall very lovely experience
Lovely cake and sandwich selection. Authentic decor. Friendly waiters, quick to swerve and take that photo!
We had a voucher for afternoon tea for £19. This was great value. The list price is £35 which I wouldn’t pay. The place is nice, food is good. I’d recommend it, but look for a deal.
I went with my partner for an afternoon tea for two and although we had a voucher no one looked at us differently. I loved that it was not a very big branch and we The metre placed us into a seat immediately as I had a reservation. The food was very good and in quantity so we couldn’t finish it. However there was a plant next to me and before we leave there were many moths on our table. I love plants in shops however they need care and attention otherwise they get moths. That’s the only thing that bothered me.
The service was excellent, the waitress and manager made I and my husband welcomed. The food was exceptional and tasted really good. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a great afternoon tea with some wine.
Wow! My girlfriend and I were amazed with the external and internal decor, not only that the afternoon tea for two is indeed value for money. The selection of mini tarts serve were delicious. The service is friendly, our waitress Natalia serve as well. We also inquired about their wedding cakes. When will get married surely will order one of their cakes. It’s our first time to dine in in this restaurant but our first positive impression and experience will be worth noted for. We’ll highly recommend this place to dine and relax while savouring their delicious cakes selection.
I booked as a test due my daughter’s birthday. The Restaurant had no record of our booking when we arrived.
The egg sandwiches were inedible due to copious amounts of mustard that had been smeared onto the bread and the other sandwiches were dry. They had either been stored without being covered or were old.
Scones were heavy. Cakes were dry.
The tea was nice and hot.
The restaurant could do something about the torn seating, and the waiters could be more attentive after they have served the customers, but overall a good experience with a waiter who was thoughtful in joining a table to ours so we could have more room.
I had booked the afternoon tea online and mentioned that it was for my sister's birthday. But the staff didn't look for our booking and no effort was made for the special occasion, even when we told them (why put it as an option if you dont do anything for it?) Also the tea pots were individual and didn't hold enough for 2 tea cups and they then charged a stupid amount of money for more. The food in general was nice
Great for an afternoon tea with friends. Food was nice and all the staff were lovely.
I would NOT recommend anyone booking this restaurant. There were four of us. The service was slow. The waiters/waitress seemed to be on another planet. They forgot to bring one of our group her mail meal- so she had to miss out on her meal. Getting a glass of water took 20 minutes.
Will not be going back....
My favourite European restaurant. I've been to Cafe Concerto many times and I keep recommending it to friends for the good value simple food and amazing European style cakes. The quality of service is always great.
Lovely menu and tasty food. Not cheap but not too expensive. Nice place to eat before going to the theatre.
Venue, service & atmosphere was excellent. Afternoon tea & special coffee slightly disappointing. The sandwiches were made with dry / stale bread so had to leave most of them. They also need to train their staff how to make a traditional liqueur (Irish/ Calypso or floater) coffee. The elderly gentleman next to us had to chose 3 times a different main course as they had run of out of food.
Apart from that I would have recommended a friend.
This is not really a relaxing environment to hold a special occasion for high tea and although the cakes and food were lovely, the atmosphere is bordering on a fast food restaurant or busy cafe.
High tea was average and scrimped on the scones. The cakes were very rich and we couldn't finish them. Would like to go back to try some of their other menu items as they looked great.
This particular branch was extremely loud - not only because there were many people but the staff would slam drawers and plates. The service was promptly yet the food (specifically the scones) were a disappointment. Otherwise the tea and coffee were lovely. I have to say that it is not the best choice for an afternoon tea, given that there are a lot more quieter and tasty places in London.
