Afternoon Tea at The May Fair Hotel
with mint cream cheese on tomato bread
Sicilian Lemon Scone
I booked for a birthday party if two, staff upon arrival asked for my voucher and took it, we were ushered to a congested table despite lots of vacancies and i specifically asked for a separate table far from crowd due to compromised immune system but when i asked the waiter responded, “does it matter” they have forgotten that we are still having a pandemic! The restaurant was Not full.lots of free table and numerous staff who seemed unsure and confused.I arrived 10 minutes before my booking but my order arrived 1 hour after. When i asked what on the menu, the rather sweet waitress said, she will come back cause she was new to the restaurant but she was apologetic. When i asked for the bill, i was given and charged for the afternoon tea and Only corrected when i said, i had a voucher, why it wasn’t deducted. the tea service was rusted and i need to point it to the lady serving. She came back with numerous choices around 5x uncleaned tea strainers saying the stain doesn’t go away but after i asked for top up she came back with a polished one and she pointed it up to me that “Now, its cleaned and polished “🤪i have tea service and strainers at home so I know it can be cleaned if done properly. It was awkward and unpleasant experience, food was mediocre, nothing special. In my reservation, i asked for no mayonnaise because of allergies but they didn’t bothered checking., i have to asked many times which ones has mayonnaise on it, overall, nit very impressed, food could be good but service was very substandard. I dont think i shall recommend it to my friends who are regular afternoon tea goers. I came to try the carbonnel et walker chocolate menu but i was very disappointed and embarrassed to my guest who has a very discerning taste as a restauranteur. Bad experience, poor service, staff arguing in front of customers. I wont recommend it to people with discerning 0r particular taste at all.
A lovely couple of hours in the heart of Mayfair; attentive, warm and welcoming staff, a lovely setting and reasonably priced afternoon tea (considering London prices).
An experience to remember.
We had the wonderful chocolate afternoon tea over the weekend, and I cannot recommend it enough. We have had a number of afternoon teas in London, and this one was top of the pile. Everything from the service to the taste to the incredible selection was outstanding. Will definitely be returning.
Brilliant experience, really enjoyed, lovely staff, warm environment, food was great, service was excellent, would highly recommend
Wonderful afternoon tea! I don’t normally leave reviews but felt I should this time.
Service was great and very attentive- the staff really looked after us. We were very impressed with the food offering and were very full up after requesting more sandwiches. They let us take some of the desserts home as we could not finish. Tea was great and we were offered many top ups plus coffee. Ambience very calm and relaxed (not many people I assume due to covid) but overall great atmosphere.
We loved our cappuccino! Our favourite sandwich by far was the chicken and truffle but for non-meat eaters the courgette pesto one was also lovely.
Thank you again
Delicious sandwiches and scones and outstanding service 😃
Amazing service and staff. The food was delicious, please try the chicken & truffle mayo sandwich if it's available! Would definitely recommend (and have already recommended to many!!)
The only issue we had was actually finding The May Fair Hotel!
The service was excellent and very attentive with a special treat for our friend whose engagement we were celebrating, the food was superb and very tasty, and we couldn't have been happier with the whole experience.
Great service, everyone was very helpful and accommodating. The sandwiches were tasty but the chocolate aspects were below expectation- in particular the donuts which were more like biscuits!!
The spread presented was beautiful. The sandwiches and scones were delicious, however the desserts were a little underwhelming. The waitresses were very attentive, but it seemed very disorganised and over bearing at points as numerous people stopped to ask the same things over and over again. I also found it impolite as whilst I was still eating a waitress was attempting to clean the table with a damp cloth...which in turn left me in a damp mood
Great service, lovely tea and pastries.
High price tag to be expected
We had reserved using Open Table, but they couldn't find the reservation. We were half an hour early and were not allowed into the restaurant despite the fact that it was empty by the time we arrived. We had booked a special via OpenTable and had told three different waiters three times. Of course by the time we asked for the bill they had forgotten.
However, the food and tea are nice and good value for money, the location has a nice ambience, it's just that the service with extremely poor.
We enjoyed the Charbonnel et Walker Chocolate Afternoon Tea on Valentine's Day. I thought the ambience of the restaurant was just right - busy with life but not overly crowded or noisy. We were seated immediately and tended to politely. The Afternoon Tea was beautifully presented and the waiter explained each layer. The sandwiches, scones and desserts were all delicious and I was very impressed with the taste combinations of some of the vegetarian sandwiches (cucumber with mint cream). The sugar-coated donuts and chocolate truffles were a nice touch to the dessert layer. Waiters came around frequently to ask if we needed more tea or sandwiches. We opted for a few more of our favourite sandwiches, but had no room for more scones or desserts. I would definitely recommend this for a date or special occasion, or even as a treat for another loved one such as family member or best friend. Worth the money!
The food was really great, but was stood out even more was the service. We had a 9 month old baby in our party & the staff went out of their way to make sure she was ok - a high chair on arrival, her own slices of bread to gnaw on, and lots of very endearing attention lavished on her!
It was the best afternoon tea I have been to, very good price and go get a lot of food! A little to much food but still a lot for your money. You should go!
My friends and I tried their afternoon tea. The service was excellent, did not feel rushed and the atmosphere felt contemporary. However, the food did not live up to the expectations. The sandwiches were slightly stale, the scones were doughy and the desserts were too sweet (for me). Anyway it was expected from a £35pp afternoon tea set.
The waitress went through her initial script as if speed reading. Not one of us, including two twenty year old's, could understand her over the plate bashing and general noise from the kitchen. They did cope well with a dietary request for no dairy produce.
The food was below average. The bread appeared cold so presumably refrigerated. The scones were miniature with very little fruit. Roasted beef had no taste and the smoked salmon was average.
This was my third afternoon tea visit to the hotel and will be last for some time to come. Very disappointed.
A start to the Christmas festivities
Atmosfera piacevole. Cibo discreto.buon servizio. Complessivamente una buona esperienza anche se un po'cara
The hotel itself was aesthetically pleasing and I was impressed with their use of exposed wood furniture, marble table tops, and metal fixtures. Afternoon tea in the hotel was an awesome and upscale experience, and our waiter, Janos, was very attentive.
I was expecting a better ambience for afternoon tea at this lovely hotel. Instead we were sat in the main - quite lively - restaurant. Food and service, however, were very good
What a lovely atmosphere and very attentive service. Would definitely go again when in London.
While the restaurant was not crowded, we were seated in an area that was essentially part of the kitchen...not the ambiance for tea, much less the smells, that one would expect. We asked to be moved, which was accommodated. Food was ok...nothing great. Overall, a bit of a letdown relative to what was advertised.
Was a very nice experience & the food was wonderful! Would definitely recommend to anyone to experience.
Amazing food and also great service, always taking care on any needs in the table
Service was amazing
Our afternoon tea was booked at the Mayfair to celebrate our anniversary. The service, food and venue where we stayed for 2 nights was fabulous. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and plentiful, staff were attentive and our anniversary was recognised with a chocolate plate. Would recommend visiting!
Tea was not hot so needed to be replaced. Not sure about the chocolate scone......didn't really work. The Lemon scone was delicious however. I felt the bread on the salmon sandwich was hard and dry.
Went to celebrate our daughter's 18th Birthday. Janos was very attentive and we were made to feel special!! They also made a special birthday message with a cake.
Perfect afternoon at the May Fair. Afternoon tea was delicious, service was outstanding, wouldn’t of changed a thing! Huge thanks to Josh for making the day so lovely, he was absolutely perfect and made the experience that extra bit special.
Great Afternoon Tea : Chocolate themed-what can go wrong?
Outstanding tea service. What was exceptional was the ability for one person in our party to order off the lunch menu vs. tea (like the rest of our party). The lunch -- the chorizo, grilled shrimp, and duck salad -- were outstanding. Everyone got what they wanted, and were extremely pleased with the service.
the taste is really good, and staff are so kind😃
We spent really nice afternoon tea!
Beautiful hotel, very attentive staff and lovely tea. Gold 🌟.
Lovely experience especially with tween kids. Food especially the savory items were delectable. Recommend the champagne add on.
Terrible experience, terrible service. Will be contacting the May Fair directly to raise my concerns. Not worth the money and would not recommend to anyone based on my experience.
The food was good, although the sandwiches could have been fresher, but the real challenge with afternoon tea at the May Fair is getting tea. The service was poor and there was a very long wait, with frequent mix-ups, whenever we needed another pot of tea or glass of champagne.
Scones were very strange tasting. Waiters handled well and gave us a glass of bubbles on them.
This was a great experience, and we got very good service by Janos.
