Afternoon Tea at The Egerton House Hotel
London is a city with great places to have the traditional English afternoon tea.... sadly, Park Plaza Riverbank is not one of them. At around £30 per person their offering represents such poor value it's almost a fraud. I had to ask them if this for one person. At the very least afternoon tea for 2 for £60 should have 2 of each item.... this did not! They had to scramble to get us a few extra sandwiches and the server did admit he could see where I was coming from when I asked if this was for 1 person or 2. The scones came 15 minutes later.... the explanation being they were heating them up so they'd be warm. I think they were from a pack of frozen scones and they didn't have time to defrost and warm them to serve with the sandwiches. It's always a bit of a red flag if the restaurant you're in is empty. This place could easily seat 80 plus an additional 20 on their balcony but throughout our just over once hour there....I saw no more than 6 people in total and that includes my wife and I.
I'm now convinced that offers on Opentable are only from places that don't have a great business or following and so result to offers (this was a 1000 point table offer). This was a complete waste of £60.
What a wonderful way to start our vacation in London! Up on the 12th floor, with a sweeping view of the Thames, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben in the distance, being greeted by Joia, who took care of every need and question. Lovely experience!
Although the weather wasn’t great, the staff and view were amazing. Had a great time
The location offers a stunning view of the river, but the afternoon tea was very poor. The ground floor hotel staff seemed unfamiliar with where to send visitors. The food was dried out and clearly had set out for hours - we sent our back as the sandwiches were rock hard. We then had certain items substituted and the tray returned. Even if the food had been good (which it wasn't) the tea was poor value. However, the tea (drink) itself was very nice and the waiter was very attentive.
The Sandwiches were very dry like they had been made in morning and left uncovered not freshly made .. there wasn't much choice compared to other afternoon teas I've had in the past . Choice of tea was really good and the view from our table of Houses of Parliment and Westminster bridge were amazing .. so made up for poor quality of food
Fabulous day! Would highly recommend 👍✨
I expected it to be better
Excellent service today at the view lounge :-)
Poor food, seems from yesterday the quality of the food. It is a lounge of a hotel with guests going for glasses of wine. Not fancy at all.
It was a great place to visit, it had a beautiful View of London, being tourist i really enjoyed it! The prices can be a little expensive but it’s worth it.
Very quiet place, not very good afternoon tea - stale bread, cold scones and tea bags rather than leaves
It’s overall great!
A most disappointing experience. The staff were inattentive and whispered instead of speaking. The food was insufficient for 3 people. We booked for two but turned up three and paid for three but only got enough food for two. There was no second helping from the sweets tray. The scones were stale, the clotted cream not fresh either and we only got 1 jam and no honey or lemon curd to go with it. At the end of this culinary nighmare the whispering waitress chased us down the corridor for an additional 5 pounds (she undercharged us, apparently).
The views were nice and the chairs comfy. That's about it. Definitely would not recommend this place to anybody and suprised to see do many favourable reviews on opentable. The place is a letdown.
I booked this for afternoon tea. After eating dinner at Gillrays the night before, I anticipated tea at the County Hall Library would be over priced for what it is. Both are part of the Marriott County Hall where we stayed. Note that this is in Park Plaza by Lampeth Bridge, not the Park Plaza by Westminster Bridge. About the tea, we had 8-9 teas from which to choose. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all good and will be replenished upon request. We had a window seat with a view of the river and big Ben, which would actually be hard not to have given the layout of the lounge. We had a really good tea but I was surprised at how empty it was. We had a 3:30p reservation and we were the only people there having tea. I don't know if tea here is a new thing or if it's just not advertised well. So the day we were there lacked ambiance for sure. Everything else was fine, and our tea for four was about 60 GBP less than it would have been at the Marriott, with the same view of the river and Big Ben that we had from our rooms.
Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful view
I almost don’t want to write this review so this place remains a hidden gem. BEST view and afternoon tea service I’ve had during my many visits to London. The service was not only perfect, but the staff added to our experience with great conversation and made it truly special.
Lovely location for afternoon tea! Amazing service! Everything’s tasted really good however the standard afternoon tea does not have veg options - on request our lovely waitress orgaisnsed for some veg sandwiches which was really nice! The small deserts are very tasty and you can tell the ingredients used are not cheap!
Excellent selection of teas as well! And the view was just lovely ! Very modern decor throughout - really enjoyed it!
My husband and I took his younger sister out to afternoon tea. The "Big Ben View Lounge" is in actuality called the Executive Lounge and it is located within the Plaza on the River Hotel.
The place was completely empty when we arrived and throughout our entire 2 hour tea. This isn't a restaurant, so if you are looking for that type of atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. We were seated next to the big windows overlooking (you guessed it) Big Ben (scaffolding and all!) and the Houses of Parliament.
At £25 for the Classic Tea, including unlimited tea and a sandwich replenishment, the value is quite good. The sandwiches were the best aspect of the offering. We asked for our sandwich replenishment but were only given two of each sandwich, even though there were 3 of us. The scones are small but good. The dessert is a disappointment. Each person gets one cake and one tart; you don't get to pick, it is an assortment.
The service was very good. Our waitress took the time to explain each of the different teas (there are 8 to choose from) and which ones she recommends for each portion of the meal. We each tried 2-3 different teas, which was the first time I had done that. It was refreshing to be encouraged to try multiple types of tea!
Overall, this is a good value for £25, but I wouldn't consider this the best offering in the price range. If you're staying in the hotel or nearby, it is a nice option.
Loved the view and the atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet and comfortable place for afternoon tea , this is place to go.
I've stayed at the hotel before and remembered the views from the executive lounge. When I realised they offered an afternoon tea, I booked it for a girlie afternoon. The service was exceptional, food was great and the view was was an added bonus. We had a lovely time, felt at ease and not rushed. I've been to a few afternoon teas but not one where the service was this good.
There is a terrace area where you can admire the view and take pictures and we had a window view where we sat and ended up staying until the sunset.
The place is the top floor of a hotel and has unbelievable views. We were basically the only people up there which was fun but surprising. We just relaxed ate and tea just kept coming. Servers were lovely and it was a wonderful way to start our trip. The only issue is that it was kind of hard to find and the hotel staff on the ground floor seem to not be aware this exists really.
A friend and I were visiting London and wanted to do a traditional afternoon tea experience. We found this through yelp and opentable. There is a fantastic view of London. Not only was the food wonderful but the service made it a fantastic experience. You can have as much tea as you’d like and you can try all of the teas if you wish. The server let’s you sniff the teas and explains to you the dishes and what the experience will be like. They make suggestions of tea servings for the courses and as far as tea experiences are concerned, you can’t beat these prices. £25-35 per person based on if you just want tea or if you’d like to add on a sparkling wine or champagne. The server offered to take a photo for us and we will be happy to return on our next visit to London. If looking for an enjoyable affordable tea service, you must try this place!
The day was lovely from start Finish and the hospitality we received was outstanding..Food was fresh...Wine was sparkling not flat and the atomosphere was pleasant not too much people...I took my sister for her 35th Birthday with my partner and we managed to capture the moment with plenty of beautiful pictures..money well spent.
Best view of the city!
I was in the UK for a business trip and happened to be over Mother's day weekend. My colleague and I reserved an afternoon tea for 2. Tea is held in the upper restaurant. The folks downstairs were confused as to where we should go but they helped us get to where we needed to be. Upon entering the restaurant, we were welcomed warmly by our host and server. We requested a seat by the window which was spectacular overlooking the river Thames. We watched people walk, cars, cyclists and boats during our time there. It was peaceful and serene. We were never rushed. We stared with a glass of champagne while our server explained the various teas and we were able to have as many teapots as we wanted. The sandwiches and tapas served was fantastic. You wouldn't think little bites would fill you up but we were so full, we didn't finish our food. It was probably because we took our time to enjoy life while on top of the world, in our own little bubble. The entire experience took 3.5 hours and we could've sat there longer but we had to catch a train. Again, we were never rushed and they were happy to have us stay as long as we'd like. The experience was great and I highly recommend it to anyone.
3pm fab location, wonderful views
Afternoon tea started well.... but:
Sparkling wine did not arrive
Only half the food arrived
None of it is prepared fresh
All sorts has been promised
Nothing has appeared
We’re the only ones here
We put our coats on and left
