Afternoon Tea at Parker's Tavern
Parker’s Tavern serves modern British comfort food sourced from field, fen and England’s seas.
The menu changes with the seasons, every dish representing a return to good, unpretentious British cooking, conjured by a spectacular chef."
We were celebrating my husbands birthday. The staff were very friendly & attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious & plentiful especially the lemon curd served with the scones. The Happy Birthday plate presented to my husband with the handmade chocolates was a lovey unexpected gesture as were the portions of Duke of Cambridge tart given to us to take home. A lovely afternoon tea which we would highly recommend. Thank you to all the staff who made it very special.
Disappointed that we were not in the library as advertised - it was closed for a private function
Great service, superb food and ambience.
We had a really nice time. Emon was a great server and helped us to have a nice time
Excellent service...very helpful and polite and attentive to us.
Excellent choice of sweets.
Scones a little burnt.
Gluten free option wasnnot on par wigh normal menu...this could potentially be improved.
Otherwise excellent afternoon tea. Particularly enjoy bottomless hot drinks...and very sweet touch to get piece of cake for home
Wonderful Afternoon tea. A birthday treat. Delicious cakes and sandwiches. Excellent service too.
Had a fantastic long afternoon, we’re allowed to move from original seats in library to the main bar with no fuss. No pressure to be quick or vacate the table. Friendly staff, who informed us upfront of tea refills etc... not to loud with plenty to watch. Food lovely and good range of different things, which can be samey.
The low scores relate to the ambiance, not the food. “Afternoon tea in the library” is what was advertised and what I wanted. On arrival at 15.15 for our 15.30 tea we were asked to wait in the bar area whilst they checked that our table was ready. We were then led into the restaurant where I have eaten before at busy meal time and the ambiance then was fine. On asking why we were not in the library we were told that all the tables had been reserved. I did not want to make a fuss, but, on reflection maybe I should have done and either insisted that on “afternoon tea in the library” or simply walked out. Even the bar area would have been preferable to the restaurant. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, with only three other tables being occupied (and they were having lunch). The food was what I had expected for an afternoon tea but we did feel that a little more emphasis on savoury rather than sweet would have been preferred. Initially the staff were very attentive, topping up our teacups and water, asking if evening was okay, but at around 16.00 there was obviously a shift change and we lost all attention as the new shift busied themselves setting tables for the evening. I even had to attempt to gain some attention three times for the bill! Overall not the experience I had hoped for. If there is a next time I will ensure that I have a table reserved in the snug library.
It was a small family group to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. I forgot to say when I booked that I'm a pescatarian, but I was given a special selection of delicious food and cakes. A piece of cauliflower cooked in tempura was very delicious and light, my favourite part of the meal. It was lovely to eat in the library overlooking Parker's Piece. I told the waiter that we were celebrating my mother's 80th birthday and he brought a plate with Happy Birthday piped in chocolate on it, a few chocolates, and a candle. The waiter was very nice, and patiently explained that what the food was. The hotel has been completely rebuilt since I went there in the 1990's but the library feels comfortable and elegant. My mother loved the tea. The waiter and the ambiance made it feel very special. My cousin loved her beef sandwiches. Thank you for giving us a memorable and enjoyable meal.
Fabulous afternoon !!! Highly recommended!!!!
Our table was all set up beautifully as we arrived in the library . The service was brilliant, everything explained ie Tea , coffee all varieties - lots of choices to choose from.
Each item of food on the amazing afternoon tea stand was explained ingredients and where it was sourced from . Everything tasted so fresh the cakes were amazing and we got to take home a slice of Chocolate salted caramel torte in a lovely Parker’s Tavern yellow box ..
Absolutely lovely from start to finish. All the food was delicious—we particularly loved the choux filled with pickle, and the carrot cake. Service was excellent. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed the Festive Afternoon Tea at Parker's Tavern. The library was an atmospheric setting, quiet but not so quiet that we felt we couldn't make conversation. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. I appreciated the choice of a separate children's tea and vegetarian options. Our whole group thoroughly enjoyed the food and the overall experience.
Staff were very polite but service was slow and we waited half an hour for our tea tray to arrive. However we were given complimentary glasses of prosecco to make up for the delay as there had been a slip up on the waiter's part and this was appreciated. The bread was not fresh which was a shame as fillings were nice. Scones were not well risen but plum jam was lovely. Too many very sweet patisseries but nice touch to have a box to take home. This tea was on the pricey side and at this top end price bracket I have enjoyed better afternoon teas.
Fantastic afternoon tea. Great venue.
Food was very original with different twists to some classics
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea at Parker‘s Tavern. The ambience is lovely in this wonderful building in a dedicated wood panelled room with a huge open fire place that has much character. The afternoon tea was delicious, perfectly presented Inna 3 Tier stand including crayfish pasty boats, musks sausage rolls, sandwiches of coronation chicken, house cured spiced beef, chalk stream smoked trout, plum pudding scones and delightful fancies. The tea menu was extensive and we enjoyed different types of tea, my favourite being Elderflower Lemon.
The service by the waiter was attentive, friendly and so polite, it was a pleasure to be served by a waiter with such finesse and knowledge of all the tea served.
We will remember our experience and will certainly return in another occasion. I have to mention the beautiful Christmas tree in the doorway which was decorated with style. Happy Christmas!
We had a lovely festive and luxurious afternoon! It was all fabulous. Our waiter was first class. It felt like a really special treat for my husband and I and our three children. It’s not cheap but then it’s not supposed to be, it’s supposed to be a lovely experience in a luxury hotel, which it was.
The aroma as you walk into Parker’s Tavern is just wonderful. Our table was ready on our arrival and we were lucky enough to be seated by a window so could look out onto Parker’s Piece. Afternoon Tea was lovely and extra sandwiches were available in request. The waiter was a little unsure if the menu when he talked us through it which was a little unprofessional. It was also a little hard to catch a waiters eye if you needed anything but once you did they were very helpful. In all my son and I really enjoyed our Christmas afternoon tea and happily took home out in eaten cakes with a couple of Parker’s Tavern extra treats. I’m sure we will be going again.
Had Christmas afternoon tea. Bread was not fresh enough, scones were hard, too much Assam loose tea leafs were in the teapot making it too strong and leafs would come out into the cup. My wife’s earl grey tea had a very strange odour - but waiter changed it. The tables were too small for the afternoon tea set and was a bit strange that quite a lot of people were on their computer in the same room - the main restaurant room may have been better. Plum jam was nice though but the desserts were all quite rich and sweet which I did not mind too much but would have been nice to balance with a lighter option. Happy with the actual service though
A real treat. Much more imaginative than most afternoon teas. The library has real character (and a fabulous choice of books).
Gorgeous atmosphere and food. Lovely attendant. Thanks!
Sandwich bread was a little hard but they changed it straight away & it was very delicious!
Visiting a special person for tea with all the family we were very disappointed with the service and the foid
Very good afternoon tea. Probably best in Cambridge, and great value at £29. Great that children very welcome and children’s afternoon tea option. Building and setting is stunning. Unfortunately service wasn’t great, staff were very nice, but it look 40 minutes to get our drinks and order was wrong twice before receiving right drinks. Also could have done with some (Christmas) music to improve the ambience in the library. But I would still definitely go back.
Lovely afternoon birthday tea. Amazing food.,enough to take home. Perfect service even the chef came out to greet us.
Afternoon tea at Parker’s Tavern was as splendid as a top London hotel. Beautiful location, peaceful ambience and perfect service. The food was delicious and well presented. Cambridge has desperately needed this level of afternoon tea provision and we finally have it. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Nice experience in a special setting but expensive for what it is.
Fantastic service, delicious cakes and unlimited tea. Would definitely recommend
Lovely coffee, tea, cake and sandwiches. The service was sometimes a little slow
The venue is lovely but that’s about it. Afternoon tea was very over priced and we were then charged for tea as extra! I asked for cucumber sandwiches which looked like a three year old had prepared. Huge chunks of cucumber not peeled- zero love given. Will never go back here
Lovely surroundings. Fitted us in earlier than our booking - than kyou. Professional ,friendly, efficient staff.
I’ve had afternoon tea here before. Unfortunately on the last occasion the sandwiches were very poor . The bread was stale as if they had been made sometime ago . The bread was white and tasteless. The cakes were just ordinary despite the inviting descriptions A shame as they can do better given the price
Lovely surroundings excellent service nice selection of food enjoyed trying different teas loved the milk oolong
I came with a reservation for afternoon tea, there were no waiter or waitresses around. I had to search all the place to find one and explain that I have reservation. Since I made the reservation via Opentable, the waitress told they were not aware of it and so not prepared for it. Any way they arranged something but it felt strange to find the service like this in such a new restaurant.
It was a special day for my partner and you guys and girls made it just that! Amazing service, we will be returning next year. Thank you for a wonderful time
A very pleasant afternoon tea with an attentive and courteous waiter.
The ambiance of the place is really nice however the quality of the afternoon tea was unfortunately below expectations.
It was very expensive for what we were given. The staff however couldn't have been nicer or more atrentive
We had to ask for the tea twice and waiters looked surprised when we asked.
The sandwiches advertised weren't included
We paid £180 for afternoon tea for 4 plus 3 glasses of Prosecco. But they then added on £20 service charge which seems a little steep for me.
They originally sat us in the library which was full of people on laptops and we felt very conscious of talking as it was quiet. We asked to be moved into the bar area which had a much better atmosphere and background music.
The food overall was good with a couple of items just not my personal preference. Lovely sandwiches and savoury snacks, scones a little dry and the tart at the end should just be a small individual serving rather than a slice of a larger tart as it is quite rich and they bring it out at the end rather than serving with the other cakes.
We service was slow considering they were not that busy in a Thursday afternoon. We asked for 3 glasses of Prosecco that took 15 mins to arrive. Then we had to ask for more tea before anyone came over and asked how things were and if we needed anything else.
Value for money I give 3 stars as the service charge and slow service knocked it down for me.
beautiful location and venue. The service was good but the food was overpriced and nothing special, not good value for money.
