Afternoon Tea at Roast
Our afternoon tea comprises of 3 courses including finger sandwiches, traditional scones served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, and true British cakes. It is served alongside a great selection of tea.
We offer the perfect environment to enjoy the great British tradition of afternoon tea whilst looking down on the hustle and bustle of London’s oldest market place.
Our new afternoon tea is available Monday to Saturday from 12noon to 6pm.
The menu relies on only the freshest produce so is often subject to change.
Great afternoon tea, really hits the spot. The cakes were scrumptious, and there was plenty of tea and Pims to wash it all down
Great experience! The tea was delicious along with all the goodies. The decor was sleek and it was all well worth the price...which was so cheap compared to other places and we got all the same things. So happy we went to Roast!
It was so nice this afternoon tea! We had a great selection of teas to choose from, and a massive tea pot that kept on going! The strawberry and kiwi tea was really tasty! A great little selection of cakes and sandwiches, we were very full after it! And to finish off, the staff also brought our friend a surprise happy birthday ice cream with a little candle and happy birthday written on the plate, so cute! We would definitely go again!
Very tasty food, great experience of afternoon tea, really nice and cosy place
Stale sandwiches.. Rude waitress and generally below par food
It took half and hour to be served our food, which had been pre-booked a month in advance and were only served after highlighting to the staff that we hadn't yet received our order. Even after the 30 minute wait we only received half of the order and it took another 45 minutes, again having to call over a member of staff, to receive the other items.
With the British summer comes a plethora of Afternoon Tea offerings from many different eating and drinking establishments. Roast has great views of Borough Market, a bustling food market full of amazing food which we imagined would be reflected in an outstanding afternoon tea, but this was not the case. Bland sandwiches and an overabundance of sweet items. We paid extra for a Pimms and that was the high point of the tea, together with warm fluffy pillows of scone so enormous that we actually had to take the cakes home as the scone filled every spare part of tummy (I shared them with my other half, but they were unremarkable really.) The choice of tea is also very limited - Assam, Earl Grey, Breakfast, herb. The staff were really friendly and the surrounding were nice which is why I've given it a 3/5 to reflect that the staff are making the effort.
Afternoon tea was delicious and plenty. Service was a bit slow as there appeared to be only one waiter so the bartender helped us.
Theme Of Our Lives: EAT WELL, LOVE LIFE💕 It’s so interesting how things in life can change so drastically but it’s even more interesting how some things will never change👭! It’s not soju in Korea but multiple flutes of champagne in England. Cheers @grace_loves_to_eat🥂. I cannot believe we both live in Europe and we had afternoon teatime English-style in #LONDON 🇬🇧, with your gorgeous & sweet daughter, Jo🍼, with your amazing husband, who of course came to save the day💪, so we could catching up like true Seoul sisters popping bottles🍾 like the good o’days. Hands down, the most champagne I’ve ever had in my life🤪. And to top this joy all off, our table was randomly selected to have our entire meal comped by the restaurant. Thank you so much for an unforgettable reunion at @roast_restaurant located in @boroughmarket !🙌 We hope we weren’t too much of riot during our 4+ afternoon teatime😬. We will definitely be back!!!👏👏👏 Amazing good & great service.
The food was good but the service was appalling. Our waiter clearly did not want to be there. He was very rude, desultory and did not attend to us in any way that looks anything like good service. I had to top up my guests' glasses myself because he was not doing it. Such a shame. The venue is great. The food was good. Monumentally let down by your waiting staff.
Sandwiches were not fresh and came from the fridge, tomato and cucumber got all soft and watery and sandwiches were soggy. Same with cakes, butter frosting on one of the cakes was cold and hard. We liked the scones and the dessert shooters. The amount of tea in the pot was sufficient. The service was attentive and friendly, however, we booked the table for Afternoon Tea at noon, and came on time, but the food was served only 25 min later. Not sure what were they doing since everything came from the fridge. The price is one of the most affordable in London, so I guess it's okay. But wouldn't come again and don't recommend it.
My daughter and I loved our relaxing afternoon tea at Roast while visiting London. The restaurant is filled with natural light, the ambiance is elegant but not too formal. Service was excellent, food and tea was wonderful, and the overall price was affordable. A great way to end our stay in London.
We were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our afternoon tea very much. The service was excellent, the gentlemen who looked after our table made our day when he brought out dessert with a lit candle to wish my friend a happy birthday - very special and thank you very much :)
I’ve been to Roast several times, for Sunday lunch, and wanted to try the tea. It was really nice and good value for money. The refurbished bar was a good place to have it too.
We went for afternoon tea, it's a surprising location above Borough Market and it's fun to watch, but inside it's extremely noisy...
It was still the end of lunch rush maybe. Service was OK, just polite but not very friendly. Too bad we only get 1 pot of tea because then your tea is cold at the end of your afternoon tea, when you still have lots to eat... (maybe the place is too busy for staff to come ask if we would like a fresh pot of tea) The scones & cakes were super tasty!
We were a party of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids). The server should have been forthcoming and told us that we didnt need to order 5 "afternoon tea" for our party. We could have easily shared 2 (3 tops). It comes with a pot of tea + plenty of sandwiches and scones/desserts each that could have been shared instead of scamming us for 5 orders. So as not to waste, we took over 2/3 of the items because it was too much. The sandwiches were average at best. Very disappointed given the $$ spent.
We arrive at Roast, and were seated in the bar area. The waiter quickly explained how it worked and took our tea and drinks order. The food arrived and there was plenty. Only criticism only one small jam. All tasted great, the shot glasses were perfect, my favourite sticky toffee pudding.
I love the space and the glass at Roast but it does mean it gets noisy.
We commented on the scones and they turned out to be made on the premises.
Not too expensive.
Perfect place to take our American friends who wanted to experience High Tea. Everything tasted fabulous, service was fast and friendly. Could not recommend this place more - loved it!
Lovely tea! Gorgeous atmosphere & nice staff. Was overall a good day out and had a great view overlooking borough market... I will definitely be returning!
Amazing service, beautiful restaurant, great food! Would recommend in a heartbeat :)
Loved the food. We had a fee dietary needs which they accommodated really well.
Visiting from the United States and Roast was recommended by a friend from the UK. Messaged ahead of time that our son has dairy and nut allergies. We came for afternoon brunch not expecting that he would have many options. We were so pleased and my son was delighted. He even said it was the “best day of his life” when the platter arrived. He ate to his hearts content and so did we. Thank you and will definitely come back when we return.
We returned to London for the first time in over 35 years, this time celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary. We saw Rudy Maxa's travel segment covering London recommending a lunch at Roast when visiting Borough Market. Roast serves afternoon tea as early as 12 noon, which better suited our schedule, and what a fabulous tea it was -- beautifully presented and tiers heaped with mouth-watering sandwiches and pastries to delight any sweet tooth. As my husband has dietary restrictions that preclude almost everything offered at traditional teas, Roast graciously accommodated his ordering off the regular lunch menu while I luxuriated in their afternoon tea. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were extremely courteous, prompt and welcoming. My husband's lunch of roast beef and yorkshire pudding was exceptionally generous; sheer deliciousness! These were meals fit for a king and we were treated like royalty. We will have fond memories for many years to come and wish we lived locally so we could frequent Roast often.
Great food, great location and outstanding value for money! 6 of us enjoyed afternoon tea and all agreed it was the best afternoon tea we’d ever had! Thank you to Roast for a wonderful afternoon! I’m sure we’ll be back!
Amazing value for money. We had the afternoon tea with bubbles. The carrot cake was amazing! I’ve been here for breakfast before and the service and food has always been impeccable. My guests were really impressed with the venue, setting and food. The staff were really attentive, especially Aly who made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back! A great find in a wonderful setting.
I booked this reservation with a lot of hope and very high expectations. All of my expectations were met and for the price Afternoon Tea was more than worth it. The restaurant is in a great location and has a calming atmosphere which is appreciated when coming from the market atmosphere. The food was fantastic and my friends and I left feeling extra full after our hours at tea together. I would go back again in a heartbeat.
Delicious afternoon tea - lovely sandwiches, even for vegetarian (though limited in choice because of dietary needs). Lovely scones, cakes. Very good value.
Very good location looking out over borough market while enjoying tea and cake or sneaky cocktail or 2.afternoon tea was spot on good variety on sandwiches and cakes price was reasonable too.
Always love going to Roast and this was our first time there for afternoon tea. It was lovely, though expensive for afternoon tea especially as we felt they could have provided more sandwiches
My friend and I had a tasty 3 course afternoon tea. Our tea was replenished upon request and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere in this venue.
A mixed experience, with really great food (a lovely interpretation of afternoon tea, with delicious sandwiches, dainty cakes served in a mini picnic basket, and (slightly dry) mini scones with a choice of tasty jams, but let down by average service and a lack of atmosphere.
I think Roast have only recently started to offer afternoon tea, and it's perhaps for this reason that it's not being booked much - we were one of only two parties in the large restaurant, the others were just having drinks. Our only other company was the evening shift waiters having a group meal, and various staff preparing for the dinner service. So lovely and quiet, but not much of an atmosphere.
Service was a bit uneven, It seemed that the staff are also getting used to the afternoon tea service..
What was a real shame, was the service I received when booking. Roast apparently has a policy of requiring credit card details to confirm the booking, even for a party of only two people. I can totally understand why a restaurant in a touristy area would do this for large parties, but this seems an inappropriate measure for a party of 2. When I questioned the necessity of this, the person on the phone was very rude, saying 'its policy, do you want the booking or not'. Now I understand she would have to follow the policy, but the tone and attitude was a bit of a shock! As I was meeting a friend I went ahead and confirmed the booking, confirming with card details. I was then sent another email the following day asking me to confirm AGAIN! I called back and explained I'd already confirmed, and fed back about how rude the person I'd spoken to before had been. Thankfully the person I was speaking to was really nice and apologised, which gave me a bit more confidence.
I think afternoon tea at roast could be a fab experience, but right now it's just missing the mark. I hope they iron out the glitches.
