Afternoon Tea at Roast
Our afternoon tea comprises of 3 courses including finger sandwiches, traditional scones served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, and true British cakes. It is served alongside a great selection of tea.
We offer the perfect environment to enjoy the great British tradition of afternoon tea whilst looking down on the hustle and bustle of London’s oldest market place.
Our new afternoon tea is available Monday to Saturday from 12noon to 6pm.
The menu relies on only the freshest produce so is often subject to change.
We arrive at Roast, and were seated in the bar area. The waiter quickly explained how it worked and took our tea and drinks order. The food arrived and there was plenty. Only criticism only one small jam. All tasted great, the shot glasses were perfect, my favourite sticky toffee pudding.
I love the space and the glass at Roast but it does mean it gets noisy.
We commented on the scones and they turned out to be made on the premises.
Not too expensive.
Perfect place to take our American friends who wanted to experience High Tea. Everything tasted fabulous, service was fast and friendly. Could not recommend this place more - loved it!
Lovely tea! Gorgeous atmosphere & nice staff. Was overall a good day out and had a great view overlooking borough market... I will definitely be returning!
Amazing service, beautiful restaurant, great food! Would recommend in a heartbeat :)
Loved the food. We had a fee dietary needs which they accommodated really well.
Visiting from the United States and Roast was recommended by a friend from the UK. Messaged ahead of time that our son has dairy and nut allergies. We came for afternoon brunch not expecting that he would have many options. We were so pleased and my son was delighted. He even said it was the “best day of his life” when the platter arrived. He ate to his hearts content and so did we. Thank you and will definitely come back when we return.
We returned to London for the first time in over 35 years, this time celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary. We saw Rudy Maxa's travel segment covering London recommending a lunch at Roast when visiting Borough Market. Roast serves afternoon tea as early as 12 noon, which better suited our schedule, and what a fabulous tea it was -- beautifully presented and tiers heaped with mouth-watering sandwiches and pastries to delight any sweet tooth. As my husband has dietary restrictions that preclude almost everything offered at traditional teas, Roast graciously accommodated his ordering off the regular lunch menu while I luxuriated in their afternoon tea. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were extremely courteous, prompt and welcoming. My husband's lunch of roast beef and yorkshire pudding was exceptionally generous; sheer deliciousness! These were meals fit for a king and we were treated like royalty. We will have fond memories for many years to come and wish we lived locally so we could frequent Roast often.
Great food, great location and outstanding value for money! 6 of us enjoyed afternoon tea and all agreed it was the best afternoon tea we’d ever had! Thank you to Roast for a wonderful afternoon! I’m sure we’ll be back!
Amazing value for money. We had the afternoon tea with bubbles. The carrot cake was amazing! I’ve been here for breakfast before and the service and food has always been impeccable. My guests were really impressed with the venue, setting and food. The staff were really attentive, especially Aly who made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back! A great find in a wonderful setting.
I booked this reservation with a lot of hope and very high expectations. All of my expectations were met and for the price Afternoon Tea was more than worth it. The restaurant is in a great location and has a calming atmosphere which is appreciated when coming from the market atmosphere. The food was fantastic and my friends and I left feeling extra full after our hours at tea together. I would go back again in a heartbeat.
Delicious afternoon tea - lovely sandwiches, even for vegetarian (though limited in choice because of dietary needs). Lovely scones, cakes. Very good value.
Very good location looking out over borough market while enjoying tea and cake or sneaky cocktail or 2.afternoon tea was spot on good variety on sandwiches and cakes price was reasonable too.
Always love going to Roast and this was our first time there for afternoon tea. It was lovely, though expensive for afternoon tea especially as we felt they could have provided more sandwiches
My friend and I had a tasty 3 course afternoon tea. Our tea was replenished upon request and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere in this venue.
A mixed experience, with really great food (a lovely interpretation of afternoon tea, with delicious sandwiches, dainty cakes served in a mini picnic basket, and (slightly dry) mini scones with a choice of tasty jams, but let down by average service and a lack of atmosphere.
I think Roast have only recently started to offer afternoon tea, and it's perhaps for this reason that it's not being booked much - we were one of only two parties in the large restaurant, the others were just having drinks. Our only other company was the evening shift waiters having a group meal, and various staff preparing for the dinner service. So lovely and quiet, but not much of an atmosphere.
Service was a bit uneven, It seemed that the staff are also getting used to the afternoon tea service..
What was a real shame, was the service I received when booking. Roast apparently has a policy of requiring credit card details to confirm the booking, even for a party of only two people. I can totally understand why a restaurant in a touristy area would do this for large parties, but this seems an inappropriate measure for a party of 2. When I questioned the necessity of this, the person on the phone was very rude, saying 'its policy, do you want the booking or not'. Now I understand she would have to follow the policy, but the tone and attitude was a bit of a shock! As I was meeting a friend I went ahead and confirmed the booking, confirming with card details. I was then sent another email the following day asking me to confirm AGAIN! I called back and explained I'd already confirmed, and fed back about how rude the person I'd spoken to before had been. Thankfully the person I was speaking to was really nice and apologised, which gave me a bit more confidence.
I think afternoon tea at roast could be a fab experience, but right now it's just missing the mark. I hope they iron out the glitches.
