About
The scones and the ambience were outstanding. We were served the afternoon tea in the library which is very elegant, comfortable and quiet (I guess we were lucky that the bar area was full). The service was prompt and friendly. Despite the name, the property is not Sherlock Holmes themed but we were aware of it, so it's ok.
On the negative side, the mustard sandwitches were spicy beyond being eatable.
Note that the Baker street address, given in the reservation on opentable, is inaccessible due to renovation works taking place. You may think that the entire establishment is closed down unless you step into the middle of the worksite and locate an inconspicuous notice saying that the hotel is now at new address. Nothing suggests that the new address is the same building and that you just have to go around the block and enter from the back street.
All in all, despite the shortcomings, we've found the entire experience very much satisfactory and would recommend this Afternoon Tea as a complement to visiting Sherlock Holmes museum or Madame Tussauds.
My friend and I had afternoon Tea on Monday 24th September from 1pm till 3pm and the food was delicious. We were the only ones in the restaurant but this was good because our conversation was law topics so privately was valued. Our waitresses Karen and Boni were attentive and professional. Please send our thanks.
We were seated after we finally found someone that seemed to know where people could sit. Then we sat, 20 minutes later we got up and left because no one had even looked at us or spoke with us to see if we needed anything
Lovely scones. Not much reference to Sherlock Holmes. Crockery was very basic but overall very pleasant.
ホテルマンの対応は完璧ですが、クロテッドクリームが不味いし、お茶も渋い。この金額だしてこれはいただけない
BIG MISTAKE!!
I decided to take my mother out for a Mother's Day treat and stumbled upon this place, reviews sounded okay so why not I thought.....BIG MISTAKE!
Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was it was nothing like the description stated, soon as you walk in your greeted by two gloomy faced concierge which didn't take my name just took me to the bar area which that gentlemen told us to pick any table they have 3 reserved, the table was dirty the place very dingy we waited for about 15mins before actually being asked for drinks, I literally felt at this point to get up and walk out his should have been the red flag for me, it got worse as we stayed. The afternoon tea arrives and the sandwiches was clearly made before hand and wasn't freshly made the bread had a spongy texture to it and was so dry on the outsides, the crust has been botched off and extremely poorly cut which I had asked to be taken back upon the waiter telling me they was freshly made...when was the date I would ask?
Upon bringing out the tea the waiter knocked over my cutlery which landed by his feet and he still walked away unbothered and it remained there until we left.
The waiters I find a extremely rude I overheard a customer dinning outside ask for her fish & chips to be packed away and he came in with a frown on his face saying out loud to his colleagues fish and chips to take away are you serious! I was shocked that this is the level of customer service these waiters have.
The whole service was slow clumsy,& extremely disappointed
It was AS good AS last year. We are glad, that we became the same tings served. We love the lemoncake the sanwiches and we love to sit in the comfortable arm-chairs.
I booked afternoon tea for my daughter's 14th birthday as we were going to be in the area visiting Madame Tussaud's. We were sat in an area with sofas all on our own. The food and pots of tea were brought to us and then we were just left. The sandwiches were dry and not very tasty, the scones were burnt and there was no atmosphere whatsoever. I had to go and search for a waiter to bring us more tea and also had to wait ages to pay. All in all extremely disappointing.
Our afternoon tea reservation was for 1:15 p.m., but their afternoon tea did not start until 2:30 p.m. The hostess was nice enough to serve us anyway. Good value for the price.
