Afternoon Tea at Sopwell House
It was very very hot and there was no airconditioning- for A 5 STAR it was kind of shocking- we expressed concern and it wasnt really solved.
Have been to Sopwell House numerous times but after this experience will not likely return. Service was terrible it took 30 minutes to order and then we had to wait for a long time just to get a cup of tea. Despite booking in advance well over the specified 48 hours our dairy free and gluten free afternoon teas were the worst we have had at any hotel establishment not to mention got mixed up and as a result my 4 month old son who is dairy intolerant has been extremely ill since. I asked for dairy free as I’m breastfeeding a dairy intolerant baby. I was given dairy instead of non dairy sandwiches when replenished despite asking a number of times. Our waitress did not communicate or understand us well at all which led to the confusion. Scones were dry and cakes we took home and threw away as they were bland. To charge full price for a sub par product and service is not acceptable. What was meant to be a celebration for my mother and I turned out to be quite the opposite. I will not be recommending and will be contacting Sopwell House directly too.
Fantastic event and perfect to celebrate my parents anniversary and mother's birthday.
Really nice setting and service. Would defiantly return :)
Great afternoon tea with girlfriends. Was asked as soon as we got there how we could be helped? Staff were attentive throughout our time there. Food & beverages were lovely. I would definitely return. Thank you.
The afternoon tea was lovely and the service was great. Well priced and a very good experience 👍🏽.
I thought that the water should have been in with price,
Greeted with a warm welcome. Service was fantastic. Staff attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and fresh. Beautiful, clean dining room and hotel. Overall very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed.
Very nice afternoon tea . Lovely ,friendly staff .
Avoid the £4.50 water charge when you didn’t even ask for it- they asked when we arrived I wrongly assumed it was free! Other than that lovely staff and atmosphere
Made to feel special for my 30th with a little happy birthday chocolate and catered so well for my needs as I’m pregnant. So friendly, always professional, always great service, food always amazing and even better that it’s refillable! What’s not to like? ❤️
My partner and I had a good experience. Service was good and the venue was good too. The sandwiches were presented well and had 4 choices, however, a couple of the sandwiches lacked seasoning.
Scones were good and a good selection of cakes, and so to sum up, a good experience.
My partner said she enjoyed the experience but had a better food at another venue, which I now want to try to compare myself.
I've booked afternoon tea experience three times now and always enjoy my time there. Its really good value for money. They were very accommodating with seating when I took my 5 month old baby in her pushchair. Staff cannot do enough for you. Good selection of sandwiches and cakes and the scones are delicious.
Fabulous tea with refills of everything! Fresh sandwiches, scones and pastries. Can’t wait to go back
I booked the table for my Mother's birthday. We were all very impressed with the quality & amount of food served. The staff were first class and very attentive (while not being over bearing).
Most importantly my parents enjoyed the occasion immensely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sopwell House to my friends & extended family. Many thanks for a lovely afternoon.
A very pleasant experience after a hard day in the pool and spa!! A nice way to end our stay.
Lovely afternoon tea, service was excellent,I would definitely recommend
We had booked as a surprise for my sister for her 30th, me my mum and sister. I asked for a nice seat and mentioned it was her birthday. When we arrived there was nobody there to greet us so we were left to wander until somebody eventually turned up we were then seated at the back by the door where there was a draft (we had requested a nice seat) the service was then so slow and quite frankly appalling.
We were asked if we wanted tea my mum asked for a pot of coffee as she doesn’t drink tea they said no she had to choose from the menu which she did, she asked for a cappuccino. Some time later the sandwiches and cakes arrived, the selection was awful and there was not enough for us all to try the same cake and the sandwiches were hard. We also only received one tray, when we looked around other tables of 3 had two trays. The sandwiches were replenished only egg tho, the man could clearly see no egg had been eaten so why they would replenish with that filling I do not know. They had acknowledged it was a birthday with a small piece of chocolate that said happy birthday, it was barely worth it.
We asked for the bill and waited well over half an hour for this and then nobody came back so we eventually got up and paid at the till.
All in all a very disappointed day. It’s a real shame as I have had spa days and stayed at your mews suite and the service was impeccable but after this experience I wouldn’t recommend this going forward.
Beautiful settings, food was amazing along with amazing service, sandwiches were topped up halfway through, great value for great food!
Would definitely recommend
Sopwell House is a lovely setting however it is terribly overpriced. My friend and I paid £72 for afternoon tea, it was very basic. The website said it was unlimited and it wasn’t. We had a few tiny finger sandwiches and two scones each. We came on the basis it was unlimited so it was very disappointing. We were also not aware that it was an ‘Easter special’ so the price was further increased for one hot cross bun?! The service was okay, I think they believe it’s better than it is. It was impossible to get someone to ask for more milk, took about 20 minutes.
We had a pleasant afternoon tea but they charged us £33 per person when the bill came, which wasn’t the price advertised when we booked on open table, it also wasn’t the price advertised on the menu. It was worth £29.95 per person maximum, not £33 per person just because it was Easter.
Awful! Tasteless bland food, cold coffee and awful service! Would not recommend at all! Dingy noisy room with tables crammed together! Really disappointing
Food was lovely - waited ages for refill coffee though. Room was nice but a bit cosy - 3 families had small babies which were noisy and restless. Quite an expensive outing to listen to other people’s babies upset.
Generally amazing but this time service was slow as there was only one waiter on for the whole dining room. The food and tea were lovely though.
Delicious as always. Attentive service. Generous top-ups. Highly recommend.
We have been to sopwell house numerous times in the past and have always really enjoyed it. This time wasn’t quite as high service as we had received before. The waiting staff were not very attentive and we constantly had to ask for things (milk, sugar, strainer) rather than these things being provided. We also sat for around half an hour waiting for our tea to be refilled.
Absolutely fabulous!! Service brilliant and good delicious. We were able to sit on a comfy settee surrounded by a beautiful room. The best thing is you can ask for more sandwiches and cakes for no extra charge. We were also able to take home what we didn't finish so all in all an amazing, relaxing experience.
It is a lovely venue and a lovely treat. There were a few babies (under 2's) which were crying at one point which spoilt the mood a little bit. Overall a lovely treat.
Service was slow and error prone. Food was ok but nothing special over and above your normal hotel afternoon tea.
Birthday celebration. Food was lovely. The scones were amazing.
Beautiful setting for a lovely catch up with a friend and to celebrate our birthdays. Food was really good and plentiful. Staff were attentive and topped up sandwiches and didn't hurry us along. Would definitely be coming back.
the value of money of the afternoon tea is outstanding! the tea and cakes themselves are on the same level as the far more expensive Grove hotel. They also offer unlimited sandwiches and scones. the hotel was beautiful and they had a piano playing. I would have to say that the grove is far prettier, with the grounds and where you sit for the afternoon tea but the price you pay at sopwell house and the service and food you receive, outweighs this. it was a perfect 55th birthday treat for mum.
Okay but not the best by any means. Sandwiches not very appealing, scones too dry but the cakes were very nice. Tea was not the best (we had English breakfast).
Gift for my parent’s 70th birthday. They loved the food and the service and felt truly spoilt. Thank you :)
A bland and very crowded room with a very loud piano right behind our table. Service was acceptable, but there was not enough waiting staff on duty. A cake stand was delivered with 4 finger sandwiches each, 2 scones each and 6 little cakes between the two of us... Clotted cream and a tiny pot of poor quality jam accompanied the scones. We were told we could have more cakes, but this seemed mean when we were each paying £29.95 - I would expect a full set to be delivered to start with. Compared to other venues this was quite disappointing.
Our afternoon tea at Sopwell House was amazing the food was lovely, lovely selection of cakes, sandwiches and scones and we were offered more when we had finished. A lovely glass of champagne topped it off. The waitress was brilliant very attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend this .
Birthday afternoon Tea
After trying many afternoon teas I could not recommend Sopwell House more. Excellent value for money, delicious food and a great atmosphere - nice background noise but not too loud so you are still able to hear each other talk.
Absolutely fantastic Valentines Day afternoon tea. Cannot fault any part, the food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Will definitely be returning and recommending to others.
