Afternoon Tea at The Balcon
The Balcon offers a traditional British Afternoon Tea with a French touch including a selection of freshly baked scones, “Parisiennes” pastries, home-made seasonal sandwiches designed by Chef Vincent Ménager and an exclusive tea selection.
Lovely time at the Balcon for afteroon tea.
Had a most enjoyable tea with a good selection of sandwiches, lemon curd to die for to go with the scones and lovely cakes accompanied by a generous glass of champagne apart from tea (or coffee). All served by charming, pleasant, attentive staff.
The second time I have been here to afternoon tea and I would go again and again. Decent sandwiches (not the best ever, but still nice) and nice sweet treats too. The service is excellent and friendly, and the venue is perfect. A lovely dining room, the right noise level so that it's not too quiet but you can have a lovely catch up with family and friends.
This was an unexpected bonus on a trip to London trying out an unknown (to us) venue. We found it exceeded our hopes and more. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the ambience was just right. We will not pass The Balcon by the next time we visit London.
This is a very good afternoon tea option. Reasonably priced, excellent service, excellent pastries, nice tea selection, and we were able to book at fairly short notice. Only area for improvement would be the sandwiches, some slightly odd choices! I will definitely go back.
Great food and fine service. Little chilly inside but was okay. Would definitely recommend.
The quality of the food is not great. Unfortunately it was the worst tea I've had in London. However, the service and staff were fantastically attentive and very pleasant. The menu just needs to be revamped.
We had the free-flowing champagne afternoon tea. Service was superb, champagne was indeed free-flowing and we had a great time.
our first time at The Balcon it was first class and we will definitely return. the service outstanding, greeted at the door and our bags brollies etc stored for us. Beautiful surroundings which made our visit special as we had booked for a surprise for a family event. The afternoon tea was delicious and as we couldn't eat everything we were offered a box to bring gorgeous cakes home with us.
Our first high Tea and we loved it.
The staff was wonderfully accommodating for my allergies. The reservation process waz quick and easy and the Afternoon Tea set up was so much fun!
My husband and I went for afternoon tea. Having not done this before, we thought it was quite fun and the sandwiches and pastries were good. I would go back.
We had afternoon tea here, and it was amazing especially for the price. We ordered the afternoon tea menu with champagne included for 31 pounds. They bring out the champagne first and then the traditional tray with 3 plates. It had 3 different types of scones with cream and jam, 4 small desserts, and 4 different types of sandwiches. The hotel is beautifully decorated and they have a room in the back too that is really beautiful with a harp player while you drink your tea. You can't find this price anywhere else in the city center!
P.S. make sure you dress somewhat nice because we were by far the most underdressed people there
Very pleasant staff and nice food.
Accommodated a vegan diet, and moved us to a different table when requested. Food was slow coming out for us, but they were very gracious about it and topped everyone's champagne up, which we appreciated. The kids afternoon tea is delightful in particular.
This was a booking for three people, each one of us had dietary requirements which were all fulfilled. The Gluten Free Scones were just as good as the normal scones, light and delicious my friend was so excited to try such delights. We can't really fault anything here. The bottomless bubbles were really good too well worth the money spent.
For a £50 price tag per person on afternoon tea we expected more. A lovely location in Central London; although the restaurant vibe definitely leans towards bistro dining rather than Brirish afternoon tea culture. We waited for 20 minutes before a small, flat plate of sandwiches appeared - The plate was chilled, proving the sandwiches were prepared hours before and had gone stale in a fridge over the afternoon. A bland mushroom pie later appeared followed by, finally, the traditional 'free' of afternoon cakes and scones we expected to be presented from the start - with the sandwiches! Despite asking for no alcohol, we were given a tiramisu slice - a problem considering my partner is Muslim. The tea was served in a very pretty but totally impractical metal pit which would give the hardest skin types a nasty burn. Inattentive staff who were too busy chatting or fussing over empty table preparations for the dinner shift. Shortly? A disappointing, over-priced mess that I definitely wouldn't recommend!
On arrival we were ignored by the staff (plentiful in an almost empty restaurant) that was busy talking amongst themselves but eventually caught someone’s attention.
Waiter took our coat and showed us to our table.
We were given the afternoon tea menu and option and ordered a glass of champagne, which was promptly served. Tea order wasn’t taken and the trays of cakes and scones turned up, followed by the sandwiches. Eventually we could place our order for the tea. The tea selection was very nice. Had to ask twice for water v fire it was served.
The cakes, scones and sandwiches were nice. We asked for more sandwiches, which took 40 mins...... We asked for more tea, which also took a long while and was then brought up wrong but at that point we couldn’t be asked to point it out as we didn’t want to wait another 10 mins for the correct tea.
The manager was made aware that we were unhappy about the lack of service and was very apologetic and offered us a cocktail on the house and waved the service charge, which I appreciate.
I waked past the Rose Lounge, which looked like it was given a lot more attention by the service staff.
I would suggest that you offer afternoon tea only in the Rose Lounge and not on the restaurant. Why compete within your own house, especially when the staff doesn’t se interested in the guests?
Anyway, thanks to the nice manager who went to a lot of effort to make things right, we had a nice afternoon.
What a great end to our London trip. Everything was perfect. We highly recommend The Balcon for afternoon tea.
Lovely afternoon tea & good value
I had booked this reservation a while back for the Rose Lounge but when we got there they told us it was booked at the restsurant instead. I was kind of upset for the mix up. This trip was my 50th birthday and my daughter's 25th birthday celebration and wanted all to be perfect. However the restaurant was beautiful and the tea service excellent!
I took my 13-year old nieces to afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon. With so many afternoon tea options it was challenging to pick a place that was affordable and had good reviews but I ended up choosing the Balcon. We sat in the restaurant (not the Rose Room) which was preferable as we were more comfortable and we got a nice window view to watch the people walking by. The tea selection was great and we enjoyed being able to smell the teas before choosing and being able to change teas throughout. The sandwiches were the weak point but the scones and pastries were amazing. I was worried we wouldn't have enough but it was more than plenty for the 5 of us and we didn't ask for any additional items. The service was great although you could tell the servers had some concerns with the weight of the Chinese tea pots and not wanting to drop them. Overall, we had a great time and it was a perfect British experience for my nieces!
Great please, lovely service and they offered great Vegan options.
My friend and I were looking for a restaurant to have afternoon tea in, for a birthday - The Balcon was an amazing choice!
We're first timers when it comes to afternoon tea and we both agree that this is an excellent place to start! The food was lovely, the tea was amazing, the champagne was delicious and the atmosphere made us feel very sophisticated!
The service was fantastic, they were so kind to us considering we had ran in the rain to get inside and probably looked a bit dishevelled.
We highly recommend to any newcomers who haven't experienced Afternoon Tea!
Lovely restaurant - wonderful food. Was there with my sister while visiting the city and would love to go back with my husband! Perfect dinner location. Room is beautiful. Food and wine choices excellent. Service was impeccable. Would recommend to anyone going to the City.
Notified on booking that this was a booking for my wife's birthday, my daughter also contacted the venue with the same . Disappointed that nobody acknowledged this.
Everything about the experience was first class. My partner and I had afternoon tea, with the food excellent and the service attentive and friendly. Well worth a visit!
Great choice of teas, food was good and atmosphere / service great.
Quite a hefty service charge which we hadn't expected.
Second time at the Balcon, good service and good food
We were there for afternoon tea. The staff were really helpful and looked after us very well. The food was scrumptious. Though the ambience in the bar was not as good as in the tea lounge, it was still a lovely place to be. And was nice and quiet!
Friendly staff and good value for the decent quality of afternoon tea. We spent over two hours slowly eating and we were never rushed by the staff.
We opted for a lovely afternoon tea treat with a glass of champagne thrown in for our festive holidays. However, as the Balcon dining room was rather tall in ceiling height together with great walk throughs to and from it - cold drafts can be felt from our seating area - coming in from the main reception area through to its own front door - so it wasn't as warm and cosy as we would have liked. I imagine also that having huge windows on raised side of Whitehall Place doesn't help the restaurant to warm up well but great to catch a glimpse of the Christmas tree outside the Sofitel Hotel.
Over priced, poor service- the inexperienced waitress kept bringing the wrong teas, it was embarrassing. The overall atmosphere was poor and cold. No music. Having tea amongst other guests who were having Sunday roast lunches - not ideal. Would not recommend to anyone.
Great cakes, sandwiches could be better, overall very nice
Th food was wonderful. The service was OK. Change of shift time and we seemed to get lost in the turnover
I had Afternoon Tea at The Balcon and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. Fantastic service, great food and tea! I recommend it.
Very good food and the staff was amazing thanks ,we will be back soon .
Afternoon tea celebration for my grand-daughter's 18th. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Food good, service good, un-hurried. They brought her a special birthday slate with 'Happy 18th Birthday' in white chocolate and a couple of extra cakes! A doggie bag was necessary. Very enjoyable.
Place is nice and fancy inside a luxury hotel. But service is slow and almost non-existent. And the price for the afternoon tea would imply superior service. We had better service and value for an afternoon tea near Tower Bridge with better pricing.
We came here for afternoon tea and everything was delicious! Our server Natalie was very attentive and we were so stuffed as we left! Great way to end our trip to London!
