Wonderful traditional afternoon tea. Excellent attentive service in a beautiful new forest hotel. Highly recommend. Parking can be an issue.
Quite expensive, I've had better. Very nice location.
Excellent service in a luxurious setting. Would recommend and book again
A delightful interlude in a tranquil setting. Attentive service and excellent cakes!
Enjoyed our afternoon tea very much. We were well looked after but not rushed.
Excellent venue lovely buildings , Garden & village. Attentive staff lovely presentation. Slightly let down by average & few sandwiches BUT made up for with great cakes & scones
Great food and lovely setting; service very good indeed. Recommend highly!
We were disappointed with the afternoon tea. The choices of tea were good and there was plenty of top ups. The scones were very small on both the savoury and sweet tea. One savoury scone was very undercooked. The lemon posset amuse bouche is a nice touch. We found the portion sizes, one the savoury and sweet tea, very small and the cakes to be over sweet. The hotel is very beautiful and tastefully decorated. The staff were friendly and efficient. We would visit again, but not for an afternoon tea.
We booked online. We were staying in the forest for a week and had previously seen this hotel on our last visit. Our server was very professional. Helped us choose from a collection of teas. All served in silver ware. All the food was delicious. We were given a box to take home some of the cakes as there were too many to eat.
The only negative I have is that the website is not clear that the price is each and not for two. Which I thought was misleading when we came to pay.
Superb Afternoon tea. Would highly recommend it. Food excellent. Service great.
Delightful service and delicious food in a beautiful country hotel in Beaulieu in Hampshire. A wonderful place to enjoy afternoon tea with tasty delicacies freshly baked in the hotel kitchen.
Covid19 precautions were well adhered too and good hygiene and social distancing maintained.
Masks worn by everyone in all areas except when guests themselves could remove masks when seated at the table. Kind and responsive staff. Ambient lighting and quiet location. Much appreciated.
Lovely afternoon again at the Montague arms for a cream tea - thank you to the staff for making us feel special
Decent food but very poor service and a lack of customer care.
I'd booked in advance but they didn't seem to know we were coming.
It took 45 minutes to get anything to eat or drink, which is quite a stretch when you are serving sandwiches and cups of tea.
No flexibility to add additional food to the order.
I'd indicated on my booking and in person to staff that it was a special occasion - Mum's 60th - and had asked for a glass of champagne. They failed to provide despite several requests.
The hotel was very busy with a wedding and the staff were extremely busy trying to keep up with the volume of guests. We sat in the garden to begin and after 15-20 mins of waiting for someone to take a drinks order, I had to go to the bar to order our drinks. We then asked to be seated in the restaurant for afternoon tea which I was told they couldn’t do. Where we where sat we were attacked by a swarm of wasps eating our lunch so then I asked to be moved and we were eventually moved into the restaurant after all. Once in the restaurant, the experience was lovely. Everything before that was a complete nightmare. I would urge the hotel to think about how many bookings vs walk ins they can handle for the amount of staff and feel that all afternoon tea should be served in the restaurant for the best experience.
IT was a lovely afternoon tea but I feel very expensive. Which normally would be fine as you are paying for the experience but as there was a wedding going on at the same time we were mostly forgotten about and due to the one was systerm it was difficult to get the attention of anyone, think we waited about half an hour for water.
Charming afternoon tea. Excellent service. Food was beautiful
We had a light lunch in the restaurant, service and food was excellent and the tables were nicely spaced out. The garden is beautiful and perfectly laid out for eating/drinking outside without being too crowded.
It was a wonderful experience, the staff were pleasant, polite attentive to our every need. I would recommend the afternoon tea to all, I had the Gentleman’s afternoon tea which was a pleasant and tasty change.
Afternoon tea was a present for a friends birthday during lockdown, I picked to Montague Arms for a different experience, an although the atmosphere and the service was great and attentive, I feel the quality of food (other than the scones) was not worth the £27.99 per head.
Had a beautiful afternoon tea . Lovely venue , food and value for money. Excellent service - thank you Montague Arms for spoiling us
Ordered savoury tea day before. On arrival told not available. Sandwiches were alright, scones dry very little cream, selection of dates was dry overcooked parkin and equally dry flap jack. Apparently this was because of covid,! Compkained and did not get charged no one came and spoke to us after that and we were totally ignored.
Have had afternoon tea there before and it was excellent but this day they must have had major issues.
It was a bit disappointing. Only two tiny cakes, the savoury option which is still advertised on the website is not available. It is a much lower price than normal but I would rather have paid more and had the usual excellent selection. Sorry!
The best thing about our trip to the Montagu Arms was the food, which was nice but nothing special. The service was extremely slow and unattentive. Would not go here again.
A beautiful afternoon tea with so much we had to take some home in a box!
Contacted by the hotel prior to event to find out if any dietary requirements, finger sandwiched, freshly baked scones, and delicious cakes, choice of teas, service was good only downside was I had asked for the exclusive afternoon tea which includes 1/2 bottle of champagne, the champagne had to be asked for and was not offered or brought to the table without a prompt from myself.
All in all a lovely afternoon
Afternoon tea was a treat for a dear friend, Jean’s, 90th birthday. Although she is very familiar with the New Forest, The Montague Arms was a new experience, and she just loved it. The service was beyond 5*, such a fine room, tastefully furnished, at the end of a delightful path through the garden. Wonderfully attentive service and a tasty selection of eats.
What a lovely way to spend an afternoon with friends. Thank you to Paul and the team at the Montagu who treated us beautifully and who had all carefully thought about all aspects of customer care.
A lovely relaxed afternoon tea thank you, would recommend
Generally loved the whole experience. The only problem was the fact that I am a fussy eater. I don’t like cheese, smoked salmon or mustard which left me with two fingers of egg sandwiches. Everything else was lovely.
Special occasion (50th birthday) and the experience did not live up to expectations. We have lots of afternoon teas so know what makes an excellent one. My coat was not taken and there was nowhere to hang it, I had to put it on the sofa between us where we were sitting, in a hotel of this calibre I would have expected and offer for coats to be hung. The lounge itself was lovely and the roaring log fire on a cold day was very welcome and cosy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a savoury afternoon tea and a traditional afternoon tea. Rhubarb amuse bouche to start was very good. Sandwich fillings good but bread on the thick side and sandwiches clearly pre made and kept in fridge as very cold and bread slightly dry. Scones were average, jam was very thick and hard to spread - unsure if actually homemade jam as per the menu. Cake selection 3 very small but tasty offerings. Savoury selection more plentiful but not as per the menu - no homemade pork pie, instead some kind of smoked salmon filled pastry. It was a nice touch that the plate was piped with Happy Birthday and both of the waiting staff wished my husband a happy birthday. To drink I ordered the jasmine tea - I have no idea where they source this but it was awful and undrinkable not the usual fine delicate tea it should be, the pot was filled with what looked like white cotton wool and smelled terrible. I asked for a filter coffee instead which was provided with no fuss. After this however we were not attended to again and my husband was not offered any refill on his teapot, which is the norm in virtually everywhere we have been. We were then automatically charged 12% service charge which would be absolutely fine if service had been befitting of that - I did pay it as didn't want to make a fuss on a special day but it wasn't really warranted. Prices here are at very top end for afternoon tea and I do not feel the standard warrants this price and am sorry to say would not return or recommend.
We had a lovely afternoon tea at the montage arms hotel, it was our anniversary. The staff were very accommodating and we couldn’t fault the evening.
Great ambiance. Poor quality of food. Disappointing and unimaginative cakes on offer. Expected more for the price and reputation. More attention to detail required, e.g. no proper cake forks, sandwiches dry with limited filling, lack of imagination serving Christmas cake on the 30th December!
What a fantastic experience! The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and had cosy log fires. The food was delicious, the choice of teas was very good and the service was friendly yet discreet. We have decided to make it a new annual tradition before Christmas as it was so brilliant!
Took my parents for afternoon tea here to celebrate my Dad’s 80th birthday. Service was fantastic, loved the fact you got a “tea experience” and got to chose from some lovely teas. Couldn’t fault the service or the standard of the food. It was quiet when we went, but they had some soft music playing in the background at just the right level. A bit more expensive than other places, but the location is lovely and you get what you pay for. Would recommend for a special treat.
Thoroughly enjoyed and will come back and recommend to others
We enjoyed afternoon tea for 3 on Saturday afternoon. The menu was tasty, the atmosphere was calm and relaxed, the tea was lovely and they catered well for one of our guests dietary requirements.
A very pleasant experience from start to finish. Good choice of sandwiches and made on the premises savoury treats (order savoury tea in advance) as well as the usual sweet version. A nice selection of speciality teas as well as trad. Very comfortable, quiet and cosy room with soft furnishings. Respectful, friendly, quietly efficient and un-fussy service. A proper treat!
The setting is nice but the food let it down. Too much fish involved, the sandwiches were uninspired and the scones were tiny with hardly any fruit. Service was slow and the tea ordered was wrong when it arrived. We had a savoury/sweet mix and had to ask for a fresh knife and plate to cut our scones after having meat.
A mediocre afternoon tea given the price and location
Took my parents here for a lovely afternoon tea last weekend. The staff were very attentive and the food was incredible. The tea selection was large and we were given the opportunity to smell each tea before making our choice. The hotel itself is a little old fashioned.
Really lovely afternoon tea for my 20th wedding anniversary, they happily provided food options to accommodate my dietary requirements. Would definitely recommend.
