Wonderful afternoon tea at Cafe Rotal for wedding anniversary. Exemplary service . Pricey but ok for a memorable occasion
Beautiful place with a really interesting history. The Van Gogh experience was something different abs enjoyable. Only issue was being followed out of the restaurant to collect £1.50 from the remaining 12.5% discretionary tip we paid (£36 already paid) :/
The food looked and tasted beautiful. Unfortunately we felt at the start of the service that we were given flat glasses of champagne, it was only when we made comment that the waiter came quickly over and changed the glasses. Felt like he was watching our reaction! It’s all in the detail!
A beautiful setting and the staff were perfect. The seating was very low and cramped, uncomfortable for eating, the table far too small for the amount of items on it , the waiter struggled to find space so teapots etc were teatring on the edge which made us nervous...we had to help him move things around to try to make space...The pianist was lovely but left hslf way through out sitting...then my friend and i both started to feel nauseas after the stary night serving...so we left earlier than planned, we were unwell for the rest of the evening and night...tea at the Rits was a whole different positive experience. We visit London very often and unless there were a few improvements made we would unfortunately not return.
A perfect setting to indulge in dainty finger sandwiches, mouth watering scones and delicious pastries- imaginative and fun as the hotel takes it cue from ‘ Van Gogh ‘ as its central theme
Very attentive and humorous waiters! A lovely afternoon tea in a gorgeous room! Loved the artistic concept of the experience.
V tasty Van Gogh afternoon tea served by friendly staff in a lovely relaxed atmosphere! Nice piano music too
Had a lovely afternoon tea experience here for our friends 60th Birthday. Attention to detail is amazing. Definitely different to the average aft tea. If you’re looking for something special this is it.
Was ok. Expected more for what you pay. Not great selection of food.
It was a special place to take a friend for a milestone birthday treat. Lots of thought given to the presentation of the food. The savouries were delicious. The large starry night cheesecake filled us up though so unfortunately couldn’t finish the rest. So posh doggy bags for us and several other customers. Overall a very memorable experience.
My sister and I took my mum to the Van Gogh afternoon tea and we had such a lovely time. Our host, whose name I didn't get before we left, was really friendly and entertaining and knew a lot about Van Gogh and the food/drinks. Everything was delicious and it was amazing that they managed to get A Starry Night on a cheesecake. Really beautiful and well-thought out. Great music throughout from a very talented pianist as well. Would definitely recommend it.
Such a lovely treat! The food here is always amazing and so well thought out! Pillowy soft sandwiches and lovely Van Gogh themed treats
Firstly we appreciate being accommodated earlier than expected. Pianist was very good. Waitress was friendly, her presentation of the theme was good.
Water was never refilled, champagne bottle ordered was not brought at first we were offered a glass of something else, then there were long lulls between refills. Sandwiches-bread was light and flavoursome but there was very little filling; I asked for more tea and after 20 minutes I had to ask again as it didn’t arrive. Overall not as expected, would be good for staff to be more on the ball. Too much time spent explaining Van Gogh theme.
Absolutely amazing. We were considering the Ritz but booked here instead. I am so glad we did. Everything from start to finish with food, drink, and service was superb!
Exceptional service best I've experienced waitress was very lovely even came with a little surprise chocolate with candle for my wife birthday. Ambiance excellent i can't fault my experience. Highly recommended.
Service was awful! Waiters with bad manners and don’t even imagine how to behave with guests((
The pianist and our waiter were just phenomenal, we will definitely return in the future.
Very impressive venue. Was a lovely afternoon tea and fantastic service.
The Cafe Royale facade has changed a great deal since I saw it last. The large, striking canopy above the main doors with its name in bold could be spotted quickly and easily from afar; the canopy has been removed. Now, the Cafe is lost on a street where it blends in with all the other shops. I walked past it TWICE, making me even later than I was for my own party. Not a grand entrance from Regent Street at all - entry is via a small tea room on the side of the main original and formal entrance doors. The side entrance/exit was very impressive, which more than made up for the front. The Oscar Wilde Lounge was very ornate and made the event very special.
As the hostess of my party I was running late so my guests presented themselves to the staff explaining the circumstances and they were understanding, patient and accommodating.
Our waiter Nathan was very attentive, knowledgeable and very efficient.
The pianist played some lovely tunes and I was surprised and delighted he played a tune for me to mark a special celebration as staff produced chocolates and a lit candle.
The food was little, well presented, but sadly, was not altogether as delicious as I imagined, however, the champagne was really very nice. The menu is varied so I trust other teas may have been more tasty than the vegetarian option we had. What we couldn't eat was packed in individual boxes to take away with us. A bonus surprised was the Van Gogh Afternoon Tea Program for each of us as a souvenir of our visit.
The lounge wasn't busy; just 4 tables were occupied so it was quiet enough to have and hear our conversation.
Be warned: The prices advertised on the website are not inclusive of VAT and Service Charges. These were added onto our bill at the time of paying. The tea cost us almost £10.00 more each than we thought we were going to pay.
Overall; an enjoyable experience with great staff in exquisite surroundings.
Wonderful Afternoon and like we had stepped back in time for a few hours. Service was excellent and she really went the extra mile to make sure our afternoon was perfect.
The Van Gough cakes were a delight and a feast for the eyes and not to mention belly and of you are looking to do something very special...this is it!!!!
Absolutely amazing experience and exquisite food. The service was lovely, the ambience was perfect. Had a great time!
Atmospheric, relaxing, delicious and varied — an excellent experience
Stunning room but lacking atmosphere. Very attentive and professional service but with so many of the themed afternoon teas it was style over substance. Sandwiches were very soggy and the cakes where not that tasty apart from the cheesecake version. Very good scones and amazing selection of teas.
Amazing afternoon tea with lots of artistic touches (Van Gogh afternoon tea) . Absolutely everything was delicious- normally when I have afternoon tea there is at least a sandwich and a cake that I don't like, this is one of the best afternoon teas that I have ever had! The service was impeccable and the surroundings beautiful.
Great food and service in a spectacular room - will come again!
Very overpriced and over hyped. Could not hear ourselves speak above the piano player. It's really nouveau cuisine afternoon tea!
I took my friend her for Afternoon Tea for her 40th birthday present and it did not disappoint. She loved it as much as I did when I first went for a special birthday treat. The Van Gogh theme was simply stunning and the food presentation superb. The whole ambience made it a very special day and I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone. We also loved the specially created Sunflower Tea blend which was perfect with the scones and sweet treats.
Absolutely love the ambience here - the deco and pianist are exquisite!
The Van Gogh Afternoon Tea was adorable - amazing attention to detail.
On arrival, we were given a vegetarian menu (which I didn't even notice) so were surprised to have someone come over to mention beef (which we don't eat).
We asked for no beef but we still ended up with a tart which had beef in it! There was an offer to replace, granted.
I do prefer simpler foods though - some of it was a little bit too complex in terms of flavours to my liking. I enjoyed the afternoon tea on my first visit to Cafe Royal (no theme), more than this one.
Delicious high tea inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Attention to detail was amazing. Beautiful rooms and considerate service. We spent quite a few hours there and were not rushed out.
Absolutely enjoyed the Van Gogh theme afternoon! Great design, service, food
It was a unbelievable experience. A treat for a friend's special birthday and it could not have been any better..service brilliant Kilian especially was a dream and you know he loves he's job. The food fantastic and the room beautiful 😍 would recommend this to anyone if they want something special x
Sandwiches and scones delicious. The chocolate cakes were very rich , you would have to favour dark chocolate to enjoy the Van Gogh themed chocolate cakes. The cheesecake was a delight. Slightly disappointed the pianist dashed off without playing my request of happy birthday for husband requested on arrival!
Wonderful afternoon, everything was perfection. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and attentive especially our waitress Angelica. Thank you so much for making our afternoon really special.
Piano music was loud if you are placed too near to it. Food was good but waitress a little forgetful. Never the less, a nice experience.
Killian and Milly were lovely and very attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Everything was explained by milly regarding the differing savoury and sweet treats on display. The teas were brewed to perfection. The only thing that slightly irritated me was that we were seated in front of the piano and conversation was difficult to conduct between the three of us. However when happy birthday was played it was welcomed whole heartedly!!!. I'm definitely coming back with friends as I truly enjoyed the overall experience compared to other venues.
Exceptional high tea experience - LOVED it!
The Van Gogh experience was both well curated and executed - thank you :)
Couldn’t have asked for a better experience, the staff were amazing and couldn’t have done enough for us. Worth every penny and more! A day to remember
Lovely experience for my birthday highly recommend
Whilst it isn’t cheap, overall I felt the quality of the service and the food/afternoon tea was worth it. If we wanted more sandwiches/tea etc we could ask, nothing was too much trouble.
We had a lovely afternoon tea in the Oscar Wilde Lounge at the Hotel Cafe Royal. The food was really good with great attention to detail. We were served by Angelica, a really really pleasant young lady who was very informative about the theme of the menu. Really enjoyable day and wonderful service by all. Would definitely recommend.
