Afternoon Tea at the Roslin Beach Hotel
Your exquisite homemade tea will be served on a three-tiered cake stand with a splendid array of fancies including finger sandwiches with a selection of fillings, fruit scones with Devonshire clotted cream and an assortment of Tiptree jams. A collection of home-made cakes and treats is the greatest accompaniment to finish this perfect example of British culture inspired by tradition.
I booked Afternoon Tea for my friends birthday. It was a lovely afternoon and the food was delicious. The staff were lovely and anything you can't eat they box up for you to take home. I think it is a lovely treat and is a great gift for someone. Definitely worth the money will be coming back for afternoon tea again.
Food was good and where we was seated was fine but service was rubbish we had to keep asking for assistance we could never get a waitress eye and I got up a few times to ask the waitress something either for more tea and clotted cream or just for the bill and then when we choose to not pay the service charge the waitress then got moody with us, I've been a couple of times to the roslin and this time was far the worst I've experienced.
English Breakfast Tea is basically PG Tips pyramid Teabags in a Fancy Tea Pot as we were sat next to the kitchen and able to see this with our own eyes my father in law pointed it out which was a bit embarrassing as I had treated him and my husband and was bigging this place up!
£22 per head and they add a service charge all they did was bring us a pot of tea and a cake stand? The cakes were very cute and a nice selection.
To be honest after I paid the £72 bill I felt a bit robbed and would have taken them for dinner for the same money I spent (a lesson learnt) - I was a little embarrassed as they did not seem at all impressed with the afternoon tea experience may I add they are not fussy people in general.
Always extremely pleased with everything about The Roslin Hotel ... can thoroughly recommend this establishment.
Having had the old Afternoon Tea menu I was looking forward to trying the new Afternoon Tea menu.
Well we were left disappointed.
The cakes were nice, the sandwiches were ok.
Please bring back the old Afternoon Tea...better value for money.
excellent service made a fuss for my wife,s 60th birthday, there were 4 of us and it cost £88 for 1 sandwich each 1 scone each and some small cakes I found it a rip off
Not impressed on this occasion - Waited too long for service and when we got home advised that our bill had been previously settled by our daughter via the telephone/card payment and we paid again. Not good service waited too long for the afternoon tea. Also when the person phoned to advise of double payment blamed it on new staff but this should have shown up on the computer that our bill had been previously paid when we asked for the bill our daughter paid for it as an Anniversary present.
We came as colleagues from work to have afternoon tea and get together
We all enjoyed the tea even one lady that had the vegetarian option
The atmosphere was nice and seating very comfortable with great views
Enjoyed our afternoon and would come again
Had a lovely afternoon tea, everything was perfect x
Took my cousin for her birthday, and as usual the food was fantastic but what let it down this time was the service. We had to firstly wait to be given the menu and order drinks and then had to wait 45 minutes for our food, which was a shame as before i have never had to wait at all.
Afternoon tea has never disappointed, I've been there on several occasions. Food is delicious, tea was plentiful and the table was decorated with balloons and sparkles as it was my birthday (which I was not expecting). Staff were lovely, I even took my balloons home!
Afternoon Tea - Highly recommended. Relaxed. Friendly helpful staff. We will certainly be back
The afternoon tea itself was lovely! Especially the scones! They were delicious! Was lots of food and plenty left over! Would definitely recommended. The only let down was in all honesty the service. You get bought over your food promptly and asked for drinks. But the drinks on offer are never explained, we were never asked what type of tea we wanted and only realised there were different options after. Throughout the meal we had to ask the waitress for drinks and were never checked on. When you finish a 10 percent service charge is added to the bill...I would preferred to have been given a choice to pay for service as really there is not much service. They just bring over the food and drinks. But apart from that the afternoon tea was lovely! A bit expensive but worth it!
Excellent food and a beautiful restaurant - would definitely go again and recommend to a friend
Very welcoming even though we were early it was no problem .
Fantastic service ,great view in window seat, unlimited tea cakes scones and finger sand which fresh made my mum very happy
Wonderful sandwiches, scones and cakes and great to have unlimited tea or coffee. Would definitely go back again especially for a special occasion, Staff were extremely attentive and we were made to feel very special. Nice also to be put in a room with a view of the sea even though it was a cloudy day.
The service was excellent. nothing was too much trouble. All requests were met. The setting was marvellous. There was a lovely atmosphere for afternoon tea. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon.
Had a lovely afternoon tea for my mums 80th birthday. Loved the extra touch i.e. Balloon and writing on the plate(happy birthday). Staff were very friendly, and attentive but not over the top, they were just right.
I have been to various places for afternoon tea with friends and relatives and once...on my own ! This one was ok but not the best and a bit pricey. You get a dainty cup for your tea or coffee but no pot of coffee so you will have to keep asking for more - if you can catch someone's eye as there doesn't appear to be many people serving. Sandwiches are ok but a few more would have been nice. The cakes...home made ? I seriously doubt it or they have been out too long...not sure which ( we sat down at noon). £25 each person should have the wow factor so someone needs to show them how to achieve that. View out the window was nice and going half shares on the table balloons left us feeling bemused. Parking is very limited, but we paid and parked near by. Maybe with the tiny mini quiches....a little decoration ? ( A tiny "salad" with it - a little tomato and a lettuce leaf ). Worth a try, but the Attic is clearly better.
Had afternoon tea for my Mums birthday. Staff very friendly and attentive. Plenty of food and all very nice. Endless supply of tea or coffee. Had a table by the window so lovely view of the sea.
There was so much food that what we were unable to eat the staff wrapped up the leftovers for us to take home.
Had a lovely afternoon tea at the Roslin with a friend, we couldn't eat it all but was lovely.
Afternoon tea was a Birthday gift from family; staff were very accommodating when we arrived early. The food was good, cakes were wrapped so we could take them home; as with most afternoon teas their was just too much!!
My only slight negative is the staff uniforms, I would have thought in a high end hotel they would have been smarter - I guess this is a personal thing and did not detract from the experience as a whole.
Excellent afternoon tea, food was great, service was excellent .
Lovely afternoon tea for our first anniversary. They even popped some balloons on the table as we had our reception there.
A while back I booked an afternoon tea for 2 for my mums birthday. The tea menu was loverly! Not a thing we didn't like & made us full & was always being topped up with tea, which I would say brilliant value for money. The hotel is kept up to a great standard from where we were & all staff we came across we're very well presented & welcoming. We were sitting inside, with a beautiful view. And as it was mums birthday, we had a star balloon on the table (which I hadn't even requested!) which was a great touch! Will be coming again!
Having been to the Roslin for Afternoon Tea several times prior to this visit we were a little disappointed with the service and selection of food on offer. Previously there had been mini quiche and a better selection of savouries. The service was very slow and we were seated for at least ten minutes before the waitress asked us whether we required tea or coffee. We had finished our initial pot of tea before the cake stand arrived. That said it is always a treat to visit the Roslin for the decor and the view. Would suggest more sandwiches and less cake as looking around most people left quite a lot of cake even though many carried it away in tinfoil!
I had taken my mother her as a treat but we were both disappointed. We waited half an hour for our food to be broughr out. The food was ok but the scones were hard. We asked for champagne with our tea and it was forgotten so we had to ask again. Once the food arrived no one returned to ask how it was or if we wanted anything else until we asked for the bill.
Having never tried afternoon tea, we decided to try it just once.
We have nothing to compare it to, but it was a good experience.
Lovely setting overlooking the sea We were lucky to have window seat Setting was lovely and staff attentive and friendly Good choice and amount of food.
The hotel itself was very nice with a good view of the Thames estuary and pier. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The disappointment was the food. The tea only contained one scone each and the cakes were inconsistent sizes. The cakes were very sweet and sugary and not as tasty as I have had elsewhere.
Such a lovely hotel but afternoon tea was unexciting. Very fresh and tasty sandwiches but no other savoury item, scones were ok and cakes were OK too but I want things to be amazing to go with the surroundings. Rather disappointing.
Took 15 mins to find a parking space two streets away. Very disappointed with stale / dry tasting scones and cakes. Hard to gain a waitress's attention, as there appeared to be only a couple for a full room full of people.
The room itself is lovely to sit in, but for a special birthday celebration it was very disappointing.
Shame, as with its location, the place could be a wonderful venue.
Although a little expensive food was fresh and plentyful. Drawback was we had to wait 15 minutes to pay the bill and then we had to go to bar in the end to pay. Enjoyed the visit though and would return.
It was my Mums 93rd Birthday celebration it was quite pleasant up to the point when the Waitress gave us the bill without me asking for it because we were waiting for the scones and clotted cream, which I thought was being bought up last, when I mentioned it to her she was adamant to the point of arguing that we had had them, which we certainly had not! We had two cake stands, each had two plates on them the bottom plate had small finger sandwiches and the top one small cakes, my Sister had previously taken a photo of them both and we showed the Waitress, which clearly showed that there was no scones or clotted cream, apparently they should have been on a plate in the middle and that was missing. The waitress apologised to us but her attitude towards us did upset my Mum. We will never go again and most certainly will not recommend an Afternoon Tea there.
Very enjoyable experience - not our first visit and it didn't disappoint
A group of us met for a charity planning meeting and took in afternoon tea. It was superb. The only thing we weren't too sure about were the savoury bagels, they were not as delicious as the other savoury items. We loved the pulled pork ones!
There was too much to eat but we asked for a box to take away to donate to our deserted husbands. This was given with a smile. The service is superb. I'd certainly recommend the experience.
Great venue for afternoon tea. Staff can't do enough for you. Lovely atmosphere. Nice sandwiches but We all thought the cakes were not as nice as usual. Really Disappointed in them.
Every year in November my husband and I come to do our Christmas Shopping in Southend and we stay at the Roslin for the weekend. We have been coming for 17 years so have seen a huge transformation. It was the first time that I came for afternoon tea and it was fabulous it was for my sister's 70th Birthday and she thoroughly enjoyed it and I would recommend to family and friends. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Pam
Tea fine, sandwiches/savouries excellent, scones wonderful but cakes a big let down. Poorly conceived multi coloured offerings not in the same league as the usual classic cakes. One of the party commented that they were more likely to be found at a kids birthday party. The promise of Happy Birthday being iced on the pastries to make up for the requested birthday cake not having been passed on at the time of booking was also missing. Hopefully just a glitch as way below the expectations and experience from other visits.
