Afternoon Tea at The Waldorf Hilton
Disappointing, given the venue and cost. We were sat right next to another table of four even though the restaurant was half empty. Our drinks came quickly, but then we waited about 40 minutes before any food arrived. The sandwiches and cakes were very nice, but we had to ask for hot water for our (by then) cold tea and ask again for fresh tea when the cakes came, then wait some time to pay the bill.
Despite booking this moths ago through open table the restaurant claims they did not receive the booking from open table, Despite us emailing over our confirmation! This was arranged as a special birthday celebration and I had paid for some relatives to travel down to join us! Being the last weekend before Christmas it was impossible to book anywhere else at such short notice!! Very bad customer service, they didn’t care whatsoever and said it was open tables fault
I had a really lovely afternoon with my friend, the sandwiches were very tasty as the cakes and very aromatic tea :)
Had a wonderful afternoon Amazing experience. Champagne very very nice. Sandwiches, savoury and cakes all beautiful. Pianist played discreetly in the background of a beautiful Christmas themed room. While we were there a couple of birthday celebrations accompanied by a complimentary cake and pianist played happy birthday. Would definitely go back.
Was a lovely experience and they made my 10yr old daughter few
Very special, tasty food and very friendly staff would definitely recommend.
Lovely room for afternoon tea. Bread was not so fresh, sandwiches nothing special but cakes were nice. Service average. Did not feel it was good value for money compared to other afternoon tea venues. Would not return.
Great place for Afternoon tea away from The bustle outside
Such a lovely relaxing afternoon with friends and family here. Great service, good value. Did not feel rushed at any point. The Victoria sponge was especially good!
Delicious afternoon tea in the most beautiful surroundings. Serenaded by a talented harpist and the staff were very attentive. You couldn’t ask for anything better.
It was a lovely afternoon with friends & free-flowing champagne!
We love the unlimited champagne. Selection of sandwiches are amazing.
Entertainment is fab.
It was my mums 70th birthday and we couldn’t have asked for a more lovely experience. The service was friendly the food was exquisite and mum even had happy birthday sung to her with a harp accompanying and chocolate cake. Superb
Very disappointed. Not what we expected. Dull with no finesse as to what we expected.
We were a party of 4 for a friend's 70th birthday. We had a good time together but I was disappointed. When I booked I said it was a birthday and that one of our party had an egg allergy. Neither of these points were picked up by the staff. We were seated on time but then waited a long time before any service was offered to us. The food was OK, cakes were lovely but the sandwiches had hardly any filling. The dining hall is beautiful and the harpist added charm and I realize that we are paying for this but the cost was high for what we had. Unfortunately I did not look for any Groupon vouchers which I found yesterday and we could have had this experience for 49% less.. I would have been very happy with that. Our bill was £204. though and I would not pay that again.
Very disappointed, this was a special Birthday treat , the sandwiches had no filling and the bread was hard at the edges , the scones which should have been hot were cold and dried out , it was very expensive and definitely not worth the money , on a positive note Breakfast the next morning was amazing
We came for my husband’s birthday. The food was good- nice sandwiches, good scones and a rather mixed selection of cakes. The staff were attentive and friendly. However the ambience was dismal. The restaurant was almost empty, there was piped music, and the surroundings were horrible. What had obviously been a grand and elegant room had been transformed into a dingy and tacky affair, the worst offender being a lumpen black plastic-effect bar right in the middle. Paint colours and curtains appeared to have been chosen to produce an overall grubby effect. Sprinklers in the ceiling had been sited randomly instead of being disguised in the plasterwork and ugly spotlights hung at one end. The overwhelming experience was one of horrified fascination.
Amazing. The staff was extremely polite and helpful.
What is exceptional about the Waldorf is the service. OK, you expect it to be outstanding and it is. Every member of staff was so friendly looking after our boys, making it an experience that enriches and treating them as special guests. When they're happy, you're happy. Afternoon tea was high quality food, traditional as you might expect. Tea options were plentiful. Not the most oppulent of rooms and place numbers on each table looked odd to me; perhaps there is a reason, but was the one thing out of place. That said would certainly return.
All the 10 people that attended had only good things to say about the service and tea that they had....they were all very impressed and enjoyed the tea and the afternoon immensely.
We decided on afternoon tea at the Waldorf to celebrate birthdays of myself and my friend form Germany. We were a group of five and as my German friends had never attended an afternoon tea, I thought The Waldorf would tick all the boxes for this quintessential English tradition. We were a la carte customers, paying full price for the afternoon tea with a glass of champagne.
Our tea was booked for 2:30 but we were kept waiting until 2:50 with no reason given. The room in which we were eventually seated was beautiful and bright with high ceilings and tasteful decor. The harpist was fabulous and added to the ambience.
We were given menus and decided on the Westminster Afternoon Tea. The selection of teas on offer were not explained to us (I would expect this).
Once our 3-tier serving trays arrived, we expected that the waiter would run through savouries and sweets presented. Unfortunately this did not happen either. And in addition to this, the tea was not served. Eventually one of my guests tired of waiting (food untouched at this point) and got up to ask for tea to be brought to the table. We were given a complementary glass of champagne for the inconvenience. We were also missing one cake, there were four sponges instead of five. We pointed this out to the waiter but did not bring the extra cake.
Staff were polite and professional but alas, not attentive. A very expensive and disappointing afternoon.
We took advantage of set menu afternoon tea with a glass of champagne deal. Great value , held in an airy, bright dining room and accompanied by a harpist, all very pleasant. Staff very friendly and welcoming sadly the whole experience was let down by slow service.
Enjoyed our Afternoon Tea, however, some of the cakes were far too sickly sweet for our liking. We have had afternoon tea at the Savoy in the past and I must say their sandwiches and cakes were much nicer.
We unfortunately entered the dining room from the wrong entrance and the waitress to I asked for help was clearly not impressed and tutted!
Excellent! ..service ,,food ...ambiance ..it was my fathers 80 birthday that day ..what a way to celebrate ..thank you
We were shown to our table by a very friendly consierge and was waited upon by an extremely pleasant and friendly waiter. The 'amuse bouche' was lovely as was the champagne. The selection on the afternoon tea was well laid out and although looking at it there didn't appear to be much, there was quite sufficient. There was a delightful lady playing the harp which added to the ambiance. We weren't rushed in any way as in some establishments. We have taken afternoon tea in some of Londons most exclusive establishments and the Waldorf sits high up on the list. My only critisism and it's not to do with the establishment but the clientele, please dress up for the occasion, make the effort don't come out to such an historic establishment wearing jeans and plimsols. However a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and something I hope to repeat in the future.
Having had many afternoon teas I have to say that this was a fabulous afternoon tea in a great setting- my only small piece of criticism was the waitress had to manage quite a few tables and so it was difficult to get her attention that being said a very enjoyable afternoon tea!
To celebrate a friends birthday we booked a table for four. The champagne Afternoon Tea was absolutely delicious! One of our number has an allergy to fish so received replacement sandwiches which were also delicious. The scones & pastries were fresh baked and yummy.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the service was excellent plus we were not rushed in any way which made the tea very relaxing & enjoyable.
Will be booking again ..... soon!
Perfect service and quality food but I was expecting greater elegance and atmosphere in the Restaurant
