From the family that brought you Trattoria La Siciliana—a fixture of Berkeley’s Elmwood district for the past twenty years—Agrodolce is a sister restaurant located in the heart of Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. We are housed in a beautiful brick building that is equipped with a full bar and outdoor seating. Serving authentic Sicilian food, the type you’d only expect to find in the alleys of Palermo, Agrodolce features unique and truly authentic food.
It was Berkeley Restaurant Week, and all the tables were busy, but the service was so very slow, to take our orders, and to ask if we wanted drinks. There were 4 of us celebrating a birthday, and 3 of the entrees came, and it was over 20 minutes before the 4th one appeared. The food was delicious, but the service flawed the experience.
Perfect meal until we requested port with our dessert. The “port”, served over ice, was a pale brownish liquid with dregs from the bottle. When my husband went in to pay the bill, he complained about the port. We still had to pay for 2 of the 4 undrinkable glasses. So go to this delightful restaurant and enjoy a fabulous meal. Don’t order port.
The best dinner I've enjoyed outdoors during the pandemic year!
The service is impeccable; the food is scrumptious, authentic Italian
and generous portions! Can't be beat!
Caesar salad and mixed green were very good. Stuffed zucchini blossom also very good. Mushroom ravioli and ragu di mai ale also very good. Deserts just ok. Service was fine but it was not crowded.
This was our first time dining here. Food was good but service was slow and our waiter was also handling phone orders and was too busy for us. When he had time to check on tables, he seemed to prioritize large tables ordering lots of drinks - he never once checked in with us or asked if we needed anything. Would recommend once they get their staffing issues sorted out.
The food was outstanding, as always. The service is usually good.
Our server was great and the food was very good too...
Great food, friendly service. Only reason it wasn’t a “5” star on service was that it was pretty slow to receive our food once ordered. No way is that a deal breaker- as I rated everything overall was excellent
Usually love the food here. I ordered the swordfish and was disappointed to see the skinny piece of fish. Canolis were amazing though.
The eggplant melanzana (appetizer) is one of my favorites from this place. Paired it with the linguini with clams and a nice glass of Sicilian white wine on my last visit, and it was DE-LICIOUS. Love this place. A local gem for sure!
The mushroom ravioli was delicious. The recommended Sangiovese red wine by the glass was also great.
A totally great experience. Lots of accommodation, good food, good wine, and over-the-top friendly service.
My pasta was half cooked and they brought our dinners out at different times. The staff was unprofessional and they didn’t know about the the wine.
As always, even in a pandemic Angelo and his staff shine. Great food, fresh, tasty and a sweet vibe🙏
The best restaurant in the East Bay hands down. If you want fresh Sicilian food... here you go. Love the staff and ambiance is incredible. Wines are too notch.
The food was excellent! The service was excellent.
Wonderful patio / parklet experience for a date night. They have heat lamps that reach each table and the food/service is fantastic. They even had a live jazz band playing outside.
The food is amazing. Everything I’ve had there is delicious. To the point where I need to go with a party of six so I can eat off all their plates.
Owner does a great job of making sure everything is running smooth
Love Agrodulce's food and people! I have been going for several years. Just recently it reopened for outdoor eating. Because the tables were in a parklet next to street, it was a tad noisier, but perfectly acceptable. They started up a heater as we were being seated, which was welcome on a fast-cooling evening. Lots of attention from the servers. One server recommended my husband's choice for the evening's main course, and he enjoyed it very much. I was very happy about our celebratory evening out, a first for a long time—complete success.
Staff were rude, pulled down masks multiple times to yell to each other while standing directly next to customers, tables were extremely close together with no regard for social distancing.
It felt rushed, they seem understaffed and stressed out. Definitely not within Covid restriction of 6ft or more between seats- felt crammed.
Ate outdoors on an atypical warmish February evening. Heaters not turned on (or having tanks). Best to sit closer to building away from traffic noise. Until warmer we happily will go back to takeout here to truly enjoy their food.
Nice ambience and warmth for outdoor dining, and fantastic to have live music from the jazz combo, they were fantastic.
The food was delicious as always and we really appreciated the great service. We were accidentally brought the wrong risotto and we were willing to just keep it if it was easier. Not only did the team bring the right one but they let us keep the other free of charge. And they brought free cannoli for my husband’s birthday. It was really nice and unexpected.
Excellent friendly service and food was great. They have set up a warm and welcoming outdoor dining area.
Service was utterly atrocious, particularly given that it was Valentine's Day, so the expectation for great service and a special experience was heightened. Our server was inattentive and suuuper forgetful. Forgot to bring out my date's dinner twice as my dish sat on the table getting cold. Had to ask him thrice for our check, that was after spending nearly 20 minutes trying to find him and get his attention.
Great food and service. Outdoor music was pleasant.
What a great experience! We went for Valentines Day. Would go back.
Just keep in mind the place is an event not a dinner. It will be at least two hours.
They were understaffed and a bit disorganized as they were slammed on a Saturday night. Wait staff didn’t have time to go through the menu items with the guests. “Which is better question” was followed by “they are both good”. We wouldn’t have ordered the sea bass had we known it was served whole. Lamb shank a bit over done. Garlic overpowered the savory. Chilly, windy dining on the curb. To be fair, I’m sure it was tough night for them, but don’t think we will be back.
The food was underwhelming to say the least. We made a reservation and were seated away from the heaters. I understand this is a hard time but the food could have at least been good.
Restaurant staff were focused on filling orders for take-out and food delievery services. As a result, it took 20 mins for a waiter to arrive at our table and another 30 mins to get our food/drinks, which came all at once. That being said, food was very good and the ambience was nice.
Best customer service in the area for sure! Food was fresh and impeccably prepared. Will return!
Wonderful gets better and better! Love that the owner is personally engaged and hard working.
Nest restaurant in Berkeley. Especially during COVID. Outside ambience is gorgeous and the owner is adorable and passionate about his authentic and fresh food and his guests. Servers are very good. Loved the music by Berkeley High jazz band. They are awesome wow.
Consistently delicious with generous portions!
Never overseasoned nor too salty!
Has become our "go to" dinner place for Italian...we were customers at their Elmwood restaurant.
Outdoor dinning, parkette. Traffic noise significant but I guess under the circumstances could not be helped
Outstanding, authentic Italian food. Always consistent.
We sat at the outside table closest to Shattuck. The buses and cars were very close and very loud. Staffing wasn’t adequate to handle the onslaught of cabin-feverish folks anxious to get out of the house during COVID 19, so it was slow and a little rusty. That said we were thrilled to eat out!
been meaning to go here for sometime, went the night before the next closedown and they nailed it! despite a huge crowd service was prompt, and the kitchen produced fantastic food. sicilian wine option was delicious as well.
