Such a great experience, the staff were lovely and attentive, and accommodating when we wanted some extras alongside our afternoon tea.
It would have been great to have been given 'tasting notes' about the menu, in written, so diners could have a ready reference for what they were eating (and take notes of their favourites for the next time!)
Will go back again, regardless, such great food and overall experience
Delicious food, so beautifully presented, and impecable service.
Even for afternoon tea, Japan is a different world. With its dainty exotic cakes and choice of teas Akira complements the modish, minimalist Japan House showroom downstairs. The one element that was not Japanese was the music. A bizarre failing. Better still probably would be no music.
The food was very good and the service was extremely poor.
£56 for 6 small sushi rolls and very small portion of Wagashis are really poor value. We are left with awful feeling of getting ripped off.
Probably wagashis were frozen. They were tasteless. Sushi rice was dry and hard. They could have served some Nigirizushi and Japanese style sand wiches eg katsu sando or tamago sando and wagashi. Not going back again
Excellent food, nice atmosphere. Definitely will go back.
Sushi omakase is the only way to go, as the quality of the fish is always impeccable.
Had sushi leftovers ! Was disappointing there did not seem to pleased or able to cater for the takeaway.
Not a very nice experience, would not even say that underwhelming
The sushi rice are cold and hard, taste like fast food, definitely not worth coming
I was very excited before visiting Akira: I was looking forward to a pleasant new experience. I found the difference between the basement and ground floor and the first floor quite surprising. In complete contrast to the light beauty and simplicity of the ground floor, the dining room space is almost depressing in its decor: brown and grey and dull, it almost felt like an ageing school canteen. The food was good, the service also good, but the music in the background was dismal to the extent that it seemed that it was a stuck record, and a comment to point this out was met with : we can change it but that is how the music is (and it was not Japanese, which might have been better). I think the atmosphere of an eating venue is very important, and in
this Akira fell very short. With a little effort it could be improved substantially and made more welcoming. I would recommend it to someone wanting to experience Japanese food but warn them of the shortcomings.
Cristian was serve us
Great food and customer service
The Japanese afternoon tea is such a beautiful experience. The place is gorgeous, with a very calming and relaxing vibe. I would definitely recommend and I will probably be back soon myself.
Great food and service, as usual. My 7 year old’s favourite place to ear.
Delicious lunch excellent menu and super service. Absolutely fantastic
I loved the dinner I had at Akira Restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday.
Staff was very attentive and professional, food started to Arrive at our table 5 min after we ordered, food was great although quite pricey, lovely presentation of the plates also.
It was amazing that without saying anything to the staff ( I have selected when booking that the occasion was birthday) they brought desserts with birthday's candles and written with white chocolate "happy birthday". Lovely place and experience, if I have to make a complaint it's just about air conditioning, too cold! Apart from that, I would definitely come back!
Beautiful presentation. Knowledgeable staff. A real special experience
Lacked ambiance lifeless and cold. Food is average price was not. Not recommended.
Amazing food as always. A Very special place. It was our first time at a restaurant since the easing of lockdown and Akira felt very safe and welcoming.
Afternoon tea for two is in fact £28 per person and not for 2 as advertised.
Loud pop music not fit for the occasion.
Cold atmosphere .
Delicious food .
Good service and lovely, beautifully presented food
This was our first restaurant outing since the start of the pandemic and we thought we'd celebrate in style. We'd eaten at Akira before and knew what to expect, excellent and inventive Japanese food served with style.
Lovely afternoon tea - defo recommend the sparkling MIO sake!
The food was amazing. Just service is a little bit disappointed. Manager doesn’t really knowledge about the menu and recommendations of food.
The food was awesome as usual but the waiter who welcomed me was a bit annoying.
I find it patronising when he laughed at me using a wrong English word.
That made me feel uncomfortable whenever he came to my table to serve.
Good food and great venue, but the service wasn’t particularly remarkable and didn’t match our expectations. A bit overpriced overall.
Amazing from start to finish. Kids loved it. We will be back soon!!!
After being at Akira in July 2019, I was excited to take my husband there for another amazing experience but my second visit was very disapointing. The service was poor and nothing comparing with my previous visit ..the food came wrong so I had to wait while the other 2 people ate (otherwise their food will be cold), the sushi box wasn't explained to us (and trust me, that makes a difference), the miso soup didn't come at all ... although I do enjoy The Japan House and loved the exhibition, I don't think I will pay Akira another visit.
The quality of food and presentation at Akira is impeccable and authentic. Service is warm and friendly though not always well coordinated amongst staff. The ambience could be a bit warmer and lively.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London.
I love Akira, great food and service as always. Really missed it during Lockdown!
The best Japanese restaurant in London !! Great foods and service! Highly recommend ; )
Excellent food, great service and experience!
Drinks slightly on the expensive side but apart from that great value for money!
Excellent service and great food presented amazingly. Looking forward to my next visit.
Outstanding quality of the food ! I would definitely recommend for a casual dining’s.
Have dined here many times and love the food & service, but I always find the restaurant so cold! Could you please turn the air-con down? Would stay for dessert every time if it was at a slightly more comfortable temperature...
If there is a better Bento Box in London, it must be outstanding. A culinary and visual delight.
By the end of the dinner comes nice surprise plate with our desserts decorated beautifully, on plate written ‘happy anniversary’, so sweet that the chef is thoughtful and amazing skill!
We always have a wonderful time at Akira. Its has become our special treat restaurant because it is so incredible. The 5 course christmas menu was amazing and is filled with so many different elements. Its more like a 15 course menu as the bento box has dozens of different things and the hot stone skewers include 3 different meats. The Miso Cod was heavenly!
The service is impeccable and everyone is so friendly and helpful.
We cant wait to visit again in 2021
Consistently excellent in every aspect. a very pleasant dining experience - highly recommend.
