Akira at Japan House London
Named after Chef SHIMIZU Akira, the restaurant presents an authentic Japanese dining experience based on Akira’s ‘trinity of cooking’ principles – food, tableware and presentation.
Visit for lunch or dinner to experience Japanese-style omotenashi hospitality and the theatre of cooking as chefs prepare dishes reflecting Japan’s diverse food offer, using seasonal ingredients over roaring robata (charcoal grill) flames.
Highlights of the menu include imaginative sushi specialities and chargrilled kushiyaki skewers made from umami-rich wagyu beef, pork, chicken, seafood and vegetables.
The Japanese staple of rice will be prepared in a donabe, clay pot.
A perfect birthday dinner. I recommend the Omikase
The afternoon tea was wonderful! We loved all the goodies!
We had a wonderful lunch for my boyfriend’s birthday. The food was exquisite as was the service. The unique serving dishes and tableware made it a magical dining experience. The bento boxes contained an array of jewelled rock pools filled with delicious morsels We will certainly be back. ❤️
Amazing food. Can’t wait to go back.
Service was fantastic.
Nice relaxed atmosphere.
Best dining experience we've had in the UK by a long long way. Authentic cuisine, fantastic theatre, wonderful service and brilliant cocktails. Would 100% recommend and cannot wait to return.
Very high quality settings and food. Lovely table service and beautiful amenities. I really enjoyed my visit.
We had a lovely dining experience at Akira! Everything tasted amazing and was so full of flavour! A fab date night, would definitely recommend. Thank you!
We had a lovely dinner: great food and great service!
We also enjoyed the sake very much!
Thanks to you all
Excellent and responsive service. The waitress and waiter had very pleasant manners. Gorgeous food!
The food and service are outstanding. The safety measures are very good.
Staff were the stars! We got a counter seat, and could watch the chefs cook. There was lively chatter between the waiters and chefs too, which was unique, welcoming the guests and calling ready orders.
The staff were super friendly and the ambiance was warm. The description about food was also very helpful too!
We really enjoyed our time- they even added a celebratory “Happy Anniversary” to our dessert too (I hadn’t even requested that either!)!
We have been coming to the restaurant since it has opened. The service was the only thing needing improvement and it has. The quality and consistency has been great
Amazing omakase, great food and presentation is so beautiful!
Amazing food! We will be back very soon. It’s hard to find this quality.
Nice quiet place to have lunch or afternoon tea. Staff was friendly and efficient. However food was a little pricey but not unexpected since it was in High street Kensington.
Under the circumstances we had a very nice meal but it lacked atmosphere.
an excellent real japanese venue offering stunning food and excellent service
I came to enjoy Saturday evening with my Miss but unfortunately
we were not impressed by our server who, as we were told later by another waiter, turned out to be a manager Peter. His menu knowledge of food and service skills were extremely poor, not enough even for a waiter.
We are very familiar with Japanese food and sake and noticed how much he lies about food dishes (we had lived in Tokyo for 5 years) and keeps on guessing. On top of everything he was very arrogant, didn’t clean our table at all and was very sarcastic with us. Maybe he thought he was being funny but actually he made us feel very unwelcomed.
His energy was not pleasant at all, and he behaved as if he owns the place.
The food was delicious and we enjoyed tasty cocktails.
We liked Akira restaurant, especially its design and atmosphere, however we really felt uncomfortable with our superstitious server.
Superb sashimi and sushi, the salad starters were fresh, flavourful and generous, the sashimi delicious and delightfully seasoned.
Disappointed with the heavy use of mayonnaise in so many dishes. Not a traditional Japanese ingredient and rather spoiled the freshness you expect from Japanese dishes.
Service was very good so it’s a shame I won’t be returning any time soon.
Had an Amazing Experience here. I came here with two other friends celebrating both my friend and I birthday.
The food was excellent!!
The ambiance was cool.
The service was absolutely amazing!!
The staff who served us (Cristian) displayed excellent customer service and quite knowledgeable of the menu.
The other staff were also excellent!!!
I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and I will be back again!!!
Service- so efficient, helpful and friendly. Great staff with very positive attitudes.
Food - beautifully and meticulously created.
Design. The use of individually created dishes enhanced the visual presentation of the excellent food, as did the beautiful sake glass for the drink.
Seating and ambiance. A very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Overall a beautiful and satisfying experience. Japanese elegance.
The staff was very caring and nice to us. It was my mother's birthday and they had a nice details during our tea time. The food was 5 stars quality
We had excellent dishes. Each one different and tasty. Super fresh ingredients prepared in interesting ways. Good Covid accommodations (space between tables)
I have enjoyed !!!!! I will come again !!!!!!!!!!!
The table was ten minutes late and it took talking to the manager to get our table as we were told that “the guests before us were still having dessert” and when they are finished with the desert they would be served the bill. We felt as if we were disturbing someone’s wonderful day and the manager was not even apologetic but slightly aggressive as to why we. Annoy understand we can’t have our table on time for our birthday dinner.
When the cake with the candle was brought I asked for it to be served among our group to which the response was: “I am not really good in serving the cake so please do it yourself”
So can’t grade this experience anything higher than two, although we used to be regulars in this place and deserved at least optimal attention for the special occasion. The level of service and price tag do not match and you are left feeling as if you got into a communist country restaurant by mistake.
Akira was outstanding as usual. The food was beautiful and delicious and the service was perfect. It is always such a special experience
Food was ok. Service was good but not as good as Japanese traditional service.
From start to finish everything was spot on. Friendly service. Fantastic food. Nice atmosphere. Overall 10/10
A beautiful experience, thoroughly joyful and supreme in every way!
Akira remains one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London. I've now had all three styles of the lunchtime bentos, and they are all delicious: visually stunning and outstanding flavours.
Good Food, service is not being the same as previous visit a year ago.
Wonderful hospitality and exceptional food. Choosing the Omakase selection ensures you get to try a little of everything, and through very generous portions.
Deliciosa comida, el Bento box de sushi es espectacular. Las croquetas igual son excelentes y el postre de crepas matcha necesario de probar.
Fantastic food and the service!
Great dining and sufficient spaces between tables
Counter seating - not so many tables. Great food. Not cheap but then it’s sushi! Good for a special treat.
Birthday quiet dinner. Very nice atmosphere despite COVID-19. Service was a bit less than expected but the food was great.
Being a vegetarian Akira was a dream come true; the bento box was a lavish layout of 15 items presented beautifully and tasting divine. I also order side of asparagus and aubergine which came on a hot stone pot and tasted very good. This was my second visit to Akira and I am already planning to take my kids there.
Absolutely love the place. Always a favourite. Went back in yesterday and food and service are still same high quality, only difference noticed was the robata mushrooms are a different type of mushrooms now, before Covid it used to be a special Asian breed which is thick and juicy, now seems like they changed them into a thinner and smaller type of mushrooms might have been grown locally. Might be it’s not easy to logistics these things due to Covid which would be understandable. This doesn’t hurt the overall rating, still favourite Japanese restaurant in town.
