Fontal and homemade mozzarella, organic tomato bruschetta, arugula and italian oregano. (No tomato sauce)
Best homemade meatballs ever, cheese blend, ragu sauce. Warning this is addictive!
Created in house daily, pappardelle pasta with homemade beef Bolognese sauce and shaved parmigiano reggiano cheese
The food was divine!
Excellent food and service. Love this place!
The food was delicious, but the service was poor. The waiter hardly said a word, never once checked on us during our meal.
Made reservations for 4 and needed to add one more the day of. They accommodated us no problem. They sat us inside and it’s a little noisier inside. Outside would of been nice. We ordered drinks and they did forget them. Had to remind them. They were very busy and were getting busier. They brought them then said the drinks were on them since they forgot. That was very nice of them as well. We ordered the meatballs, spaghetti and meatballs, meat ravioli, gallina, and it was all sooooo delicious! We all enjoyed are meals. I wanted to finish it with spomoni ice cream but they were out. I was bummed about that. Over all great place! Definitely will be going back!
Simply the best Italian in Orange County.... Chef José is fantastic and the service was excellent, as always.
Had a reservation and we were seated quickly, but it was 10 minutes before the waiter appeared to take our order. My wife ordered eggplant Parmesan and was told it would take a half hour because one of the stoves wasn’t working. She also asked to substitute the Caesar salad with the house salad, no problem, said the waiter. I ordered lobster ravioli, nodini as an appetizer and a meatball to be served with the appetizer because of the delay with the eggplant preparation. The nodini arrived, small portion for the cost. The main courses arrived at least half an hour after the order, along with the meatball (though we asked for it with the appetizer). Our expectation was the food would be hot since the eggplant should have just come out of the oven. Nope. All the food was lukewarm and my wife receive the Caesar salad instead of the house salad she requested. Beside being lukewarm, the food was bland. There was very little lobster in the ravioli. This was our first time at Alessa because we wanted to try some place new in Laguna Beach. It will also be our last time.
The service was bad! First or appetizers came and then we had to literally beg To get our drinks and our bread - reminding two or three times. Then while we were still eating our appetizers, even before the bread and the drinks: the main course arrived. My pasta was OK but overrated and overpriced. my friends pasta was literally over cooked and super dry. We were in this restaurant before and it was much better. Currently the quality dropped the prices are much higher than before
My dish was delicious. Service was OK. The tables were too crowded. I made reservations and requested a table outside, but was seated inside. I didn't feel special. I look forward to visiting you in the future.
We were looking so forward to a wonderful Italian meal. It was lively and festive, but the tables were packed in so close to each other that we couldn’t relax or hear ourselves because of a man next to us who was shouting the entire time. Our water was never refilled, and we had to ask several times for more dipping sauce. It was the worst Italian food we have ever tasted, and the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. We were so disappointed, and won’t be back.
So this was our second visit as our first experience was great. Everything was the same….good food and atmosphere. The restaurant was busy but food and drinks were served in a timely manner.
We were seated promptly, our waiter chose an excellent meat and cheese tray for my family, and all of the food was delicious.
Exceptional meal from food to service its a great dining experience!
The atmosphere and the food were very good. They are definitely in a rush to turn tables, we felt very rushed. They brought out our entrees before we were even finished with our salads. I HATE that, I want to relax a bit.
Loved the lobster ravioli ! The calamari was delicious! My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner!
Alessa always has amazing, fresh Italian food. I've been a number of times and all the dishes are great.
We made a reservation 2 days in advance as we had a family member in town and the service was horrible. The server Luis acted like we were taking to his time, rushing through our orders, not delivering bread or silverware etc, he was not pleasant and eventually we called him out on it like “are you in a hurry”? We spent $300+ on a meal for a family of 5 adults plus wine and we would never recommend it based on the service and Luis alone. The food was delicious but not worth the horrible service. Save your time and your money.
Always excellent service and the food fantastic! It’s our go to place in Laguna Beach.
Good food as well as the service so no complaints!
Excellent eggplant parmigiana! But wine prices were ridiculous.
too busy, attention to detail lacking, no bread of water offered... sardine seating, didn't honor reservations for outside seating on Open Table, hostess not helpful-over worked.
So so pasta and sauce. Alfredo sauce gave my husband indignation all night. Very crowded and very noisy. Bread as a joke. Four very thin slices of not-so-good bread
I have been to this restaurant multiple times. Not sure if this was a one off experience but it was by far substandard. I ordered the lamb dish and was unable to distinguish it from the short rib dish, which was ordered by my dad. My 9 year old ordered the ravioli and she was still beyond hungry. Very disappointed in the portion size of the ravioli, $19 for 6 to 8 raviolis does not seem too realistic.
My mom loved her salmon over spinach.
It took about 15 min for our server to come. We had 4 pm reservations. We were not served bread until we asked about 3 times. Then asked for another basket with our meal (there were 4 of us) and it never came.
Not sure why the service was so bad and the food mediocre this time around. We came for an early dinner in the middle of the week so weekend rush was not the issue.
first of all, I had reservations for outdoor dining and when we arrive (15min early) the hostess said there didn't have any available tables. Then I believed a more experienced and smarter lady rescued the situation and said we couldn't have the empty table because it sat four but that she noticed 2 tables were asking for the checks. Of course we congenially said we would wait. so 30 min. later we had a table for 2 in the outdoor setting we requested. You need to train the hostess!!
also when we have dined here before that the waiter also brought a complementary glass of Prosecco and a little appetizer dish - a nice welcome to our restaurant. Interesting the table to the left with 4 and the table to the right with 6 received this but not us. Strange
It was the 3rd time in the last 5-6 weeks that I took some guests to this restaurant. My dissatisfaction grew every time. They have items on the menu which are not available when you order the. The last time at least two items were not available, Lamb Chops and Insalata di Mare. And above all, imagine that an Italian restaurant has no coffee machine to serve you any type of coffee. Very disappointing.
The food and the service were great. Also, very convenient location.
Food was tremendous but the restaurant was 100% full making it noisy and hot on a warm summer evening without AC. The mains were served well before the apps were finished. Our servers great attitude helped the evening become successful.
Service was exceptionally slow due to the fact that our server was also a bartender (who didn't know if they had cachaca or not). We requested a table change and were assured that they had a table and would be "right back" to accommodate our request...turned out to be a bald faced lie as it never happened. The charcuterie plate of 6 choices was served on top of so much lettuce that the sliced meat and cheese got lost in the pile of greens, and the octopus/salmon carpaccio provided only a meager amount of protein...definitely not worth $22. Ordered bison ravioli that 20 minutes later we were told was not available. Ok, ordered veal piccata with spinach and potatoes. The potatoes were old and cold, and very unappealing. The pizza and (not sure which) ravioli ordered by others were quite good. I might go here for pizza and zin, but there are too many other places to go to that provide reliably good service, and good food. Can't see a good reason to return here.
Unimpressed by menu design but VERY happy with food - delicious!! Amazing what two chefs can prepare in a very busy restaurant. Food piping hot and flavorful.
We ate outside for lunch at 1:30pm on a Friday with our dog. Not crowded at that time, but it was VERY crowded the night before when we walked by. Highly recommend the pizzas, especially the Fungi Misti if you like mushrooms, fontina cheese, and truffle. Very flavorful! I did think that $21 for an individual pizza (though it is enough for 2 people when supplemented with a salad or appetizer) was a bit pricey.
Real Italian food right in Laguna Beach. The food is so incredible!
Waiter ignored us after we placed our order. We asked multiple staff to please refill our drinks and nobody ever did. Only tables with 4+ people were being attended to. Food wasn't good enough to offset the terrible service.
Food was good, service was terrible.
The food is fantastic! The service was not good. They need to improve that for sure.
This place was super busy and I understand that but it took us almost a hour to get our entrees
Amazing every time! My favorite restaurant in Laguna.
Booked our table for 8:30, arrived 5 minutes prior. 45 minutes later and we hadn’t been seated yet. Disorganized, hostesses were seating other people completely randomly after keeping saying we “were next”. Gave up and left. Definitely not worth the wait. Won’t come back.
The food was good but I didn’t appreciate being asked to move after we had been seated even though we had a reservation. Not good, so therefore I will never go back!
Revisiting the locale of our first date 20 months ago. Food is very good. Atmosphere is lively. Tables are a little tightly packed and it’s loud. If you like that, it’s perfect.
It was terrific as always and our server Miguel took such great care of us.. we will be back next week, and the week after and the week after.. food is suburb.. thank you for the treat of the ravioli.. Lisa and mark tenner
