Best homemade meatballs ever, cheese blend, ragu sauce. Warning this is addictive!
Fontal and homemade mozzarella, organic tomato bruschetta, arugula and italian oregano. (No tomato sauce)
Created in house daily, pappardelle pasta with homemade beef Bolognese sauce and shaved parmigiano reggiano cheese
This is a nice neighborhood bistro with good food; have been coming here for a few years. BUT - WOW, have prices gone up! Menu prices are up (as they are in many places), but the wine prices are out of control. I saw $60 bottles that are $12 in the stores. Yes, restaurants mark-up the wine, but certainly not this much. If I go back, I'll stay with water.
Bad service, food was subpar!
Hostesses were less than impressive. Took FOREVER to get seated. Service was just par. We use to love this place when it was Pomodoro. Rather disappointed nowadays. It has gotten worse throughout the years. Each time we have returned, it has gotten worse and worse.
Awful 😣 Poor service and even worse food. The waiter was not attentive, everything was careless and the food was absolutely terrible.
Pleasant atmosphere. Good service. Quick seating. A little too expensive for a lunch menu. Good taste and adequate portions.
The food and service was amazing like always.
Alessa is a favorite restaurant of ours. Eggplant parmigiana and seashell pasta are favorites of ours!
Not sure what happened but this use to be my favorite Italian restaurant in Laguna Beach years ago, it feels like a different restaurant, the menu was plastic and cheap looking, the servers were rushed and kind of rude, the wine list is so so, the food was disappointing, again not sure what's going on here but they use to be so much better, hope they can get back into the swing of things.
Date night with hubby - and tried this place for the first time. I had their limoncello pasta (which I thought was going to be weird, but the waitress recommended it) and I wasn’t disappointed! I’d have it again! Lemony, for sure, but not too much. A good mix of seafood, too. Hubby had the short rib pasta and he said it was very tasty.
Overall it was a solid experience - I wasn’t totally amazed, but definitely would come back.
Luis is a fantastic server!
The food was amazing but the service was horrible. I’ve eaten at alessa many times and have never experienced such a rude waiter. Very disappointing
Drinks were poorly made, food was not what it should have been. I would not go here again.
Food was excellent, service was almost nonexistent.
Beyond a disappointment. If your goal is a hole in the wall, over-crammed, unclean, hair in food, dishonest service then this is your venue. We reserved an outdoor table. Instead we were crammed into an in door table that was put in the service lane. It is a grab a waiter and hope they will deliver type of a place. *NOTE: there was one amazingly kind lady who followed thru every time. She is was all that kept us from walking out! We are major foodies and could not wait to savor this local spot. The filet is pan seared in solid salt until it is chewy and gamey. The bolognese, heavy on the veal, boasts salt but lacks a rich appealing flavor. The pizzas were traditional and moderately tasty but lacking for what this place could be accomplishing. The chicken Parmesan was about the best meal ordered but tasted a tad fried instead of baked. By far the worst experience was finding not one but several hairs in the penne marinara. Even when presented the waiter did not seem to care took the bowl and never returned. When the bill arrived that dish was still there even after they said it was removed. We paid, left and were amazed that people would line the streets for what is presented as organic and savory. There are so many fine choices for really amazing Italian foods and this was definitely not it!
Best Meatballs ever !! Great food and super service ! Loved it and will be back for more lunches in the future.
I had the shrimp pesto with seashell pasta which was very good. My guests split the filet mignon which also good.
Although I enjoyed the pesto shrimp, I had made a special request of their delicious scallops over pesto with pasta, both in writing and by phone earlier in the week. I was assured that I could look forward to that entree. This is the second time I requested it and didn’t receive it. The very first time I requested it in writing I got it with no problem and it was made as a night’s special.
The dish is worth requesting and I will give it another try before I give up. It’s delicious.
We come to Alessa frequently because I have always been in love with their Limoncello pasta. Last night was a major disappointment. The limoncello pasta had no taste whatsoever. The nice large shrimp that they used to serve with that dish are now small, tasteless shrimp. The plate was filled with calamari and no tasty shrimp like previously. There was just no lemony taste to the pasta at all and I was very very very disappointed since I went there after a year of the pandemic, dreaming about that delicious pasta I used to eat regularly at Alessa.
My friends were happy with their meal but my entree was mediocre at best. Our salads were fresh and tasty and the pesto and bread served was very good but my favorite dish of all time was an utter disappointment.....
we brought some friends from our of town for a nice lunch .
Restaurant serves good, classic Italian food, however the quality has gone down and the service is no longer good. Often have to wait even with reservations and servers are often rushing customers and not very pleasant.
Definitely would go again!
The calamari was over cooked. The pizza and sauce was great!
We have been going to Alessa's since they opened and have always found the food and service to be the best in the area. Miguel , our favorite waiter always treats us well and
apricate his service. of all of the Italian restaurants in South County Allsees 's is the best you can find.
Server rushed us through the entire meal. The restaurant was not super busy. Server was very pushy and removed plates before we finished eating. We felt so rushed and did not enjoy our dinner experience. Waste of our time as we left with indigestion.
Loved the food at Alessa - everything was delicious. Great service.
thanks - we'll be back !
Service was excruciatingly slow. We actually had to leave because the food didn’t come. No apologies. Next time, own it and just apologize. Would have saved the experience.
Overall disappointing in terms of food quality and service.
Still a staple for Italian food in the Village but it's time to chuck the plastic cups used for water and soft drinks. I had the limoncello infused shrimp scampi ravioli. The lemon flavor is really all you taste. It overpowers all the other flavors unfortunately. Noise level is aways loud and the prices are up.
We went with people who really recommended this restaurant, they have been there several times and always enjoyed it. We started off by making reservations well in advance and requesting a high chair. When we got there the hostess told us there was no highchair available because they only had one and basically just looked at us. As we asked her if there was anything else we could do, perhaps ask next-door, is there any other options. The server hostess, and busboy all just looked at us with no suggestions no ideas. I had to go to the restaurant next-door and ask them which they were more than accommodating. Later on they said oh we could’ve asked the restaurant we own that’s a few blocks down. What?? Why was this not thought of immediately or even more, gotten ahead of time?
We sat down and put in an order for appetizers. The busboy brought out bread and an olive oil dip which I asked him not to set it in front of the baby as he would probably grab it. So he sets it directly in front of my son. So of course he reaches for it and got a few fingers in before we grabbed it out of his reach. We order a bottle of wine and put in our order for dinner and the waiter spills one of our cioppino‘s and had to take it back to the chef. We get to dessert and order tiramisu and spumoni. The server comes back and tells us they are out of both. Truthfully, I was not impressed as the food was fine but nothing spectacular enough to warrant bad service.
its a very good restaurant, I do fell that the al dente was slightly undercooked past, but flavors were great and we had a very nice Mothers day celebration
We went there for Mother’s Day lunch and the food was excellent and the service was excellent too. Felt like it was a little pricy but as the food tasted so good it was worth it.
Amazing food as always. Love this restaurant in Laguna Beach! Consistently outstanding.
Service was extremely slow. Not many people have time for a 2 hour+ lunch.
Food was good but not sure it was worth the wait.
Once again, an amazing dining experience at Alessa in Laguna Beach. Bruschetta was amazing , this place has THE BEST charcuterie boards around, and the Limoncello Pasta with Calamari and shrimp was perfection.
The Carpaccio Beef and the pasta dishes were really good.
The only really disappointing thing was the dessert.
We picked that place mostly for the chocolate souffle on the menu, and what they serve IS NOT a chocolate souffle. It's barely a lava-cake.
I really recommend the restaurant to update their menu online and on site with the correct name for this type of dessert.
So the Chocolate souffle lovers won't be soooo disappointed.
The appetizers and main dishes were delicious, so I'd still recommend this place.
All of the plates were dirty and the food was not even close as good as it was before
they used to be a FAVORITE BUT restaurant was filled to almost 100% .indoors. We were already eating or would have left. NOT FOLLOWING 50% Mandate for indoors dining. NEVER AGAIN
Friendly staff, service was slow but they have doubled seating capacity in the street. I had the salmon filet which was very nice but the side serving of spinich huge and inconsistent in taste. Wife enjoyed her spaghetti and meatballs. Loud, busy crowd was remenecent of pre pandemic times. Think we will be going back to Salernos just a couple blocks away for the more home family atmosphere.
The male host was fab!
Requested outdoor seating on Open Table. We were seated indoors because there was no seating available outside. Restaurant was a little busy so we didn’t mind that it took a while to take our drink orders. The server hurriedly took our food order.
The food was dropped off and no one, not even once, stopped by to ask if we needed anything (my friend wanted Parmesan - too bad, we wanted a drink refill [our glasses were empty]). My friend walked to the bar to order drinks for us because our server ghosted us. He finally stopped by once he realized we got our drinks from the bar and he had an attitude that we didn’t order from him.
There was a trio seated next to us that included who I believe to have been the owner, maybe a manager - because our server went on to take exceptional care of them. He comped our drink but that was the least he could do, really. I’m easygoing and understanding but his ‘service’ was a joke. If this is common for him, I don’t know how he’s able to keep this job when there are presumably plenty of people who’d be happy to take his place and give decent service.
Food was great. Service was horrible.
The best best best could over eat here every night!
