Great atmosphere and service. Busy restaurant but excellent customer care. Amazing cocktails , good food and craic - what’s not to like. Christmas menu coming soon.
Special shout out out to Matthew who always goes the extra mile. Thank you
Meal midweek at 1800 - good and attentive service.
Food ( (1) Burger + (2) Steak pie - both well presented and very tasty.
Nice moderately priced
Will definitely be back again
Great food and friendly staff
I am not quite sure what to say it was so bad. The service was terrible, it was so slow, food was dropped off our plates onto the table when being served. After waiting 2 hrs for our main course we were then told one of them was no longer available and one of the chefs had walked out. When the food did arrive it was terrible, definitely not worth the money, it looked like a customer had cooked and plated it, then an hours wait for the bill. We will definitely not be back and will definitely not recommend Alexander's. We only went after watching Great British Menu which was laughable !
We booked a table 19.30. We were seated right away .. but by 20.10 we still hadn't even been given a menu let alone an order taken despite trying to catch staff eye contact on a number of occasions. A couple came in at 20.00 they had their drinks order taken right and food order taken by 20.10 we spoke to manager and explained we had been waiting for over 40 mins and his response was yeah sorry we are really busy. I would hope the £10 booking fee is refunded as we turned up on time .. the service was a no show ! Very poor
Noise levels distressing. Food over-salted and poorly cooked. Staff disinterested and inattentive. Decor drab.
Ribeye steak was unreal! Duck was also 10/10. Hidden gem we had never heard of. Will def be back!
Superb food! Staff were as helpful as could be! 5🌟!! Never disappointed!!
Came highly recommended perhaps we chose wrongly from the menu
Presentation of Breads as starter was very unappealing consider presentation of this and greater selection, a few olives perhaps , definately not value for money
Poor menu - run out of lots of choices, staff very pleasant ,
Brilliant restaurant. Great food, really fun staff, very reasonably priced and delicious cocktails. Remember to tip the staff! They're doing their best!!
This was 3rd visit not as good as first menu different feel like a different chef cooking
Nice restaurant, very cosy, good atmosphere, the duck hash starter was amazing, will be back
This was our first Sunday visit and initially we were disappointed the pies were not available but that was soon forgotten after we had are meal
I would claim this was the best roast beef Sunday Roast I have had in Holywood and they would be up against big competition
My wife’s smoked haddock pasta also amazing
The only issue was the portion sizes were too big
Hated leaving any off it but couldn’t finish it
Highly recommend this restaurant
Great night at Alexander & Co. It was our first visit and we will definitely be back and recommend it to family and friends. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were all very friendly and attentive. The confit duck hash starter was amazing! And the baileys eclair dessert was gorgeous! Can’t wait to visit again.
Amazing food, well presented and packed with flavour. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Good experience overall , service very good , food good ambience ok ,value excellent will come back soon .
Slowly making our way through this extensive menu.
Very accommodating staff and chef. Nothing is too much trouble.
Lunch took 45 minutes to be served, far too long considering how few people were in the restaurant at the time.
Great staff, service spot on. Quality of food great, portion size for us was too much.
Doing a tour of The Great British Menu chefs restaurants for our holiday.
Nice Sunday early dinner. Mains delicious, deserts a bit disappointing. Friendly staff but service a little slow…. Maybe understaffed? Would go again as very handy to where we live.
The food was really good, the cocktails were even better!!! The service could have been quicker / more attentive but we understand the hospitality industry has struggled to find experienced servers.
5 star all round - food, service, atmosphere . Will be rebooking without a doubt.
1st class anniversary lunch. Delicious food, amazing gluten free options for coeliacs. Good selection of wines to choose from. Waiting staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be returning.
Food was superb. Initially disappointed we were not upstairs but then offered it but just decided to stay put and it was fine. Thanks
Beautifully presented, tasty food.
Staff are very helpful.
This was our 2nd time eating here. We frequently go for drinks there too.
The first meal (dinner)we had was fantastic quality from start to finish. This lunch was disappointing. I had the dish of the day which was a cod pasta dish. It was smoked cod which the waitress hadn’t explained. It was quite a small portion & the pasta was totally over cooked - flat squashed penne pasta tubes. Not a lot of cod. The flavour of the dish was good though.
My husband had the turkey & ham roast of the day which was fine. Nothing special.
Menu not to my taste. Went for default option of ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and was excellent. A few trimmings with the steak wouldn’t have gone amiss. Service was okay. Despite asking twice for a final drink before we left it never arrived.
Very noisy with a cheap music sound system. We were seated at a terrible park bench in what is best described as a bus station. It felt really odd for a couple to be sitting side by side looking at the back of other diners. A & C should always make sure a couple are facing each other. We were there for a meal, not waiting on a bus. If you go here, do not sit downstairs. Arrive after getting soaked in the rain. No one offered to take our wet coats and we had to parcel them up on the seat beside us.
Starter very disappoint. I picked the best of a bad bunch (skipped on the sausage roll starter ... yuk). Ended up with 4 large slices of sour dough bread and a single tapenade - no dipping oils or anything else to make it interesting. How unimaginative.
Mains was reasonable (steak and ale pie) but hardly worth boasting about. When asked once how the meal was, I replied it was just okay, the waiter had that look that it was the highest compliment, and perhaps it was for this restaurant.
Spoke to 2 other groups of diners who were also very disappointed in their meals.
In the next section of this review you have to pick why you would recommend it. I wouldn't and just ticked a box to get by it. Ignore the recommendation.
The food was excellent and also great service
My husband had the fish which was lovely. I had a steak which was perfectly cooked but the peppercorn sauce tasted just like gravy. Would recommend more pepper and cream, maybe even a little brandy. I can only say the sauce was mediocre. The mashed potato (champ) needed a lot more butter, it was very dry. It certainly wasn't the worst restaurant experience we've experienced but also not good enough for us to re-book.
Disappointing overall, menu was different to that advertised on the website but the difference in price was honoured when this was pointed out. Service was pleasant but very slow - it was well over an hour before our mains arrived. The beef was no longer available and the lager I wanted to order had also sold out. The food was nice when it arrived but was rather spoilt by the long wait. We really wanted to enjoy the experience as we have heard good things and enjoy eating out especially on a Sunday.
This was my 6th visit to Alexander’s, the previous 5 have been very good but last night the food was dreadful, the tomato and burrata salad had so little burrata in it it was really just a rocket and tomato salad without any dressing, I think it was supposed to come with sourdough which I didn’t get! The roast sirloin of beef was not great as beef stringy and everything piled onto the plate making it very unappetising.
Lots of items on menu not available, service was slow
Great food but the toilet facilities were dirty. The wine, starter and main that my husband ordered initially weren’t available which was disappointing. The server was very nice and apologetic.
Absolutely amazing meal again at Alexander's. By far the best restaurant I have eaten at in a long time. Please book here, it will not disappoint.
Great food and service from experienced personnel which makes a change from most restaurants nowadays.
We all had steaks (4 people) all of which were perfectly cooked to the order, they were among the best we had had and were reasonably priced for the quality, they're not the cheapest but are definitely worth the price charged given the quality of the meat and the expert preparation.
Will definitely be back.
Fabulous evening meal. Loved everything about the food and the atmosphere
Food was decent. Service not so much. Was out on my lunch, what should have been an hour turned into an hour an a half.
