Ali Ocakbasi London
The restaurant was closed!!!! I didn’t get to eat there even though the reservation was accepted and placed!!! When calling nobody picked up the phone. Left a message too no reply!
I had booked for a special ocassion and was excited given the reviews.
We turn up to find that the restaurant is SHUT DOWN - no warning from open table or the restaurant, and it also appeared to be open based on Google.
Naturally, I'm not even impressed about this place anymore and will never go back. To those thinking about going, bare in mind this place might not be even open...
We turned up only to find out this place is closed!
Such an inconvenience!
restaurant was closed. It is your responsibility to check whether the restaurant is operating or not.
The restaurant was closed when we got there. It should not have been open for a booking. I am using OpenTable for over a year and it was the first time I had such an experience. It should be corrected immediately.
I've eaten a lot of Turkish food in the UK and this is up there with the best I've had. Meat was succelent and well spiced and that Kunefe was devine!
Great place, authentic delicious food and a lovely friendly service. Nice relaxed vibe, will definitely be back! 😊😊
Excellent service and food as always. One of the best Turkish restaurants in the UK, without doubt! Ottoman dishes on offer here!
Food was super delicious as always and many thanks to the Manager and the Staffs who were welcoming us and serving us throughout the evening. I will definitely go there again and recommend to everyone to visit 😊
Food was amazing and the waiter were very helpful.
Second time there. Will deffo visit again :)
Don't miss out the kunefe, outside of Turkey, the best I've tried!
Nice place but VERY noisy. We were 5 people and could hardly hear each other. The food was very good +++
The food was very tasty and nicely presented and the staff were polite and not too pushy. It costs about £35-£40 per person for ,2 courses and drinks so about average for West End.
Food and service are always amazing. Definitely worth visiting!
Enjoyable place with great food and friendly staff , who always welcome you.
Good Turkish food at Leicester Square prices. If you're there for a show and you love this cuisine - as we do - it's a good pre-theater dinner option, but if you're just looking for something Anatolian to eat you can get better food much cheaper in less popular parts of London. Service was quick and friendly.
Ali Ocakbasi has exceptional food and great staff. We loved it and would visit again and again. It is also good for family or friends gatherings if you enjoy great and tasty Turkish food.
What was a late night, random restaurant pick turned out to be a great evening for us all. The Turkish pizzas and grilled meat were superb, and we were very happy with the service too. Definitely returning.
Really tasty food here and the service was bang on. But £26 ish for a mixed grill is a little too much even for the area. I would recommend it but some of the smaller
Plates shared are better value
Great place for a dinner. We ordered 3 dishes to share between 2 of us and we were happy with all of them. Shashlik salad was mouthwatering. We'll definitely come back for a proper portion of shashlik.
Amazing food. Maybe the best pita I've ever had.
This is by far my favorite Turkish restaurant abroad. The food was really good and with many different types to choose from.
The only missing thing was a Turkish beer 😊
I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant.
Great place! The food was very authentic, made me feel like I was back in Turkey.
I love the food here! One of the best Turkish restaurants in London!
Delicious food, helpful and friendly staff.
My friend and I really enjoyed our first dining experience at Ali Ocakbasi. We both ordered a pizza and shared a salad. We found the staff to be very accommodating, in particular with our food preferences (no cheese and additional toppings). The service was friendly and efficient and we will certainly be back again soon.
Simply put, this place had the best kunafe I've ever eaten. I'd give the kunafe 10 stars!!! The rest of the food was delicious too - perhaps the portions could have been a tiny bit more generous for the price, but hey - this is Leicester Square. Great restaurant - we'll be back!
It is definitely good food but it is a bit overpriced, possibly because of the touristy location.
The true taste of İstanbul
Although we were half hour late and our table was gone, they have accommodated us with an alternative table and the service was very quick due to our request to catch the theatre.
The food was very tasty.
Ali is the best when it comes to Turkish food. They don’t modify or alter the original recipe and this is such a comfort if you are looking for a specific, well-missed taste.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Excellent as always.
Really delicious food with lots of flavour and brilliant service, it was in a great location too. We didn’t understand some of the menu (as it was in Turkish) and the waitress was very happy to explain everything to us. Would definitely go back! 👍🏼
Very good food - one of the best kebabs and mezes I have had in the UK - similar quality to the original restaurant in Turkey. But the mezes are not value for money - tasty but small portions with very high prices. Alcoholic beverages are also priced above average. Service was a bit slow.
My friends and I had a lovely evening. The food was fantastic and the service was great.
I am definitely coming back here again. One of the best Turkish restaurants in London
There were not many vegetarian options and while the food was pretty good, the selection is quite limited. Mezzes were very expensive for the portion with no accompanying bread given for dips like hummous and etc. This has to be ordered seperately. No mezze platters available. A selection or set of mezzes made available on the menu or sharing platters would have been good especially for diners who are not familiar with the cuisine to try out small portions of selected mezzes. Service and ambiance was good.
It's Good - Go there!
Despite seeing a few bad reviews on an unnamed website, we decided to go anyway. It is conveniently close to Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square and has all the right ingrediants for a 1st class restaurant including a wait staff that is very attentive.
Clean, warm, not too big the space is great for a small party or an intimate evening (although there are no booths).
The menu is very good and the portions are quite satisfying. Halal, of course; it's menu covered a wide gamut of great entrees and desserts. Traditional balon bread, humus, and baklava are all very good.
Fine Turkish wines (!) round out the menu with other vintners well represented. Did I mention the many types of Raki? Try them all and fly home!
Not overly expensive = ($$$) not ($$$$).
Eat! Be Happy here!
I sat at the patio outside. The staff are great. I love turkey and Turkish people. But I noted that the roses and plants next to the seating area are full of garbage from people who throw it at the plants area. Which is unpleasant.
Great food and service with nice outdoor seating. Will definitely come again and recommend to friends! It would be even more enjoyable if they had some music playing outdoors as well. Overall, great experience!
The food here quality wise was very good! I think the portion size should have been bigger given the price tag. However, this restaurant is based in Leicester Square, and like so many other restaurants in such a touristy kind of area, they are banking on luring in tourists with Sterling Pounds to spend, and also I can't imagine the rates they have to pay are cheap. But putting aside a lack of value for money I must stress the food is good and the location is great. I can think of a number of places in that area that charge heaven and earth but give you basic food. I'm glad we went and if I'm ever in the area I'd definitely go again. Thank you for the meal!
