Alston Bar & Beef - Manchester
To top it off, Alston has a large selection of gins available in each of their two bars, as well as a number of their own gin infusions made on site using a cold compound process, each individually garnished and served to perfection.

Fantastic and would 10/10 recommend.
Bar pre-meal for drinks was brilliant and so were staff.
High quality food, that’s cheaper than most other top steakhouses in manchester but on the same level.
I will be returning.
The truffle fries were absolutely amazing and the services were really friendly
Steaks weren't cooked correctly - my medium well ribeye was rare and the medium rare fillet was medium
Brilliant meal, wonderful quality of both food and drinks but I do feel that the prices are extremely high. We dined with a Confidential's voucher so the bill did not sting too much however, the bill total was £85 for 2 People, having 1 course each and 1 cocktail each. Whilst I can't knock the quality of both meals, I feel the pricing is wayyyy too much and I would be hesitant to come back based on that. I would however recommend the food to anyone, but would advise them to take out a loan before they go!
I would also question the 12.5% optional service charge (which we asked to be removed). This added £10 to our bill and is pretty steep tipping. I am personally more generous when given the option to tip, rather than to have it forced on me.
Staff we really attentive and friendly....got a little
gin class at the bar which was good!
Food was delicious, will definitely be returning!
Great meal. Great service. Nice atmosphere. I had vegetarian options which were really nice and husband had steak which he loved.
Food was delicious. Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff. An all round great experience. We will be back again when visiting Manchester.
Having eaten here many times previously, the rib eye was a bit of a let down, didn't taste as good as the previous visits.
The chips, are way too salty and over seasoned, the onion rings were tasteless, the most shocking was the bread! Very dry and didn't enjoy eating it, the peppercorn sauce also has a weird lemon/citrus aftertaste which does not bode well with a creamy peppercorn sauce. My wifes sirloin was much better and her salad side was great, the pea dressing tasted great on the salad leaves.
Great first time going, Food was cooked perfect! Great service from the waiter, we will be booking again very soon
Went for the first time and had the special offer menu. The food was fantastic and great value for money. I had the flat iron steak. Cooked to perfection. Will definitely go again and highly recommend
We got put in a corner and forgotten about for a good 20 mins, service after that only improved marginally as there was a huge table of 18 lads who took the staffs attention. Wouldn’t usually be too bothered as the food was great but it was a birthday celebration for myself and my dad. Wouldn’t come back.
Great experience with professional service and lovely food at a competitive rate compared to other high end steak restaurants
Very over priced - when paying £70 for a steak would expect a selection of vegetables to be included and not just chips or mash!!
Great food and service. Will definitely return. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
I don’t usually write reviews but hopefully this one will be read by Alston and lead to some key improvements. So my honest view is this restaurant needs to make a few CHANGES to gain 5 starts.
Firstly - I am from London and have an abundance of experience with dining out in a variety of places. My initial thought was Hawksmoor but wanted to try something more boutique and local to Manchester. I called and explicitly explained it was an important dinner with a client and requested a nicer table in a good part of the restaurant. Upon arrival there was no special welcome treatment and were left at the bar holding jackets even though there is a cloakroom. Again - small details that make BIG differences. Generally the service experience was 50/50. Some servers were very polite and others basic. When asking the barman to recommend a top shelf whisky....literally CLUELESS.
On a positive food was fantastic but as everyone knows average service and professionalism makes the food taste worse. Such a shame.
Why am I frustrated?? Mainly due to the fact that I know Hawksmoor would have been better. AND Because this place is a GEM. Please address your whole experience for the diner and you will be a 5 Star review.
Fab place. Food and service excellent!
Sloe 75 gin highly recommended
Amazing as always! Fantastic service and food, looking forward to visiting again already
Brilliant service and Best steak I have had in years
Excellent service food and ambience. Both the fillet and rib eye steaks were cooked perfectly. Staff are all really friendly and will offer advice and suggestions if required. Excellent bottle of Chardonnay. Will definitely be back. 10/10
Lovely venue but a tad noisy Sunday afternoon. Food, Sunday lunch beef, was super.
I had never visited your restaurant before and it was a great experience. The food was great and the Sunday menu was good value for money with food which was delicious! The service we received was great and we weren't rushed which was good. Myself and family will definitely visit again!
Excellent experience. Food was amazing, we had the Sunday roast and staff are really friendly and helpful.
Very friendly staff, brilliant steak and run options the only grumble was that the deserts didn't match the quality of the starters and mains
Thank you once again for amazing food and fabulous service as always.
Recommended medium for the flat iron steak and i think it's a bit on the rare side and not medium throw and not been rested
I booked for lunch before we went to watch a show at Manchester Arena. We had the two course lunch for £15. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent. The place itself was lovely & clean & the service was excellent.
Nice offer with a free gin on the 2-course. Good to have a try.
We had previously visited Alston Bar & Beef and had a fantastic experience but we were very disappointed when we dined at the restaurant this week.
We have previously dined on the à la carte menu but we saw a January offer for two courses and a G&T for £15 and decided to go back.
The food, and especially the service, was really poor. Our steak was not cooked correctly and bled all over the plate; our bread arrived after the starters; and the staff members were not welcoming, friendly or engaging at any time during the meal.
While we had previously loved this restaurant and hope this was an exception to the norm, I would sadly not return or recommend it to others.
The decor etc.. is great - Our server Will was brilliant - most attentive , however the food was just ok & not worth the money. My husband & son both had ribeye & both said it had sinew running through it. My daughter had a burger & thought it was tasteless plus Mac n cheese was a little lacking in cheese! I had the roast beef dinner which was tasty. We all thought it was a little overpriced. SORRY!!
Great food, great service, really nice surroundings. Will definitely be back.
We went for the lunch with gin deal. Great service from Olivia. Excellent steaks, excellent value, very tasty. All staff very friendly yet professional. Great desserts too. Certainly recommend it.
The good was amazing and the best burger I’ve ever had would recommend !
The journey down the lit staircase was challenging to get perspective. But when in the underground chamber it was light and comfortable. The food was good; steak tasty but not melt in the mouth and f=the fries were brilliant. Probablt didn't need a pud, but that was the deal. Which also included a gin. The manager would exchange this for red wine, which we felt was pretty poor and so wen elsewhere for our wine, which we should have been able to buy there; but under the circumstances decided we would spend our money elsewhere. Silly manager!!
Served by Olivia who was friendly and looked after us. Greeted at both doors by polite members of staff. Food was amazing, slightly pricey but you get what you pay for. Nice cocktails and great gin.
Very good steak and gin menu. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
After booking for the set menu, we arrived 5 minutes late and they refused to serve
Very impressive meal with friends
This is a fabulous place especially for a good steak I would highly recommend it
never been disappointed in half a dozen visits from set menu to a la carte food always exceptional, ambience relaxed and friendly helpful staff
Great food and fantastic service. The free brownie or Prosecco option was a pleasant and welcome surprise as a treat for our anniversary.
