Alston Bar & Beef - Manchester
To top it off, Alston has a large selection of gins available in each of their two bars, as well as a number of their own gin infusions made on site using a cold compound process, each individually garnished and served to perfection.

Served by Olivia who was friendly and looked after us. Greeted at both doors by polite members of staff. Food was amazing, slightly pricey but you get what you pay for. Nice cocktails and great gin.
Very good steak and gin menu. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
After booking for the set menu, we arrived 5 minutes late and they refused to serve
never been disappointed in half a dozen visits from set menu to a la carte food always exceptional, ambience relaxed and friendly helpful staff
Great food and fantastic service. The free brownie or Prosecco option was a pleasant and welcome surprise as a treat for our anniversary.
Fantastic food and service, this restaurant needs more publicity.
Went for a birthday meal and couldn't fault the food or service. Very good. All steaks perfectly cooked. Perhaps more variety/choice of sides would have been good but this didn't take away from what we had. Very comfy chairs too! Will definitely be back.
Amazing! Everything about this evening was PERFECT! The food was great, I do not usually have steak(especially medium) but this food was better than great, the prawns and starters are lovely, I would recommend that you order a few, share them and try different starters.
My boyfriend really enjoyed his beer he ordered and I also really enjoyed my cocktails.
We drove 3 hours to stay in Manchester, go to this restaurant and watch fireworks for New Years, would definitely do this again.
Absolutely horrendous atmosphere, food and prices. So over priced for what you get it was a joke. Ordered 2 steaks only could get chips with it for £60 absolutely disgusting not to mention it was bone dry! No sauce, nothing. Staff were rude and obnoxious no customer services skills what so ever.
Would not recommend to anyone.
Wonderful steak and service. We timed our visit to celebrate Christmas on the 23rd. We were disappointed to find only the restaurant open and the bar closed, but staff opened the bar just for us. Really couldn’t fault the service. Minor gripe was a table of extra loud diners, but don’t think the restaurant can be blamed for their insensitivity.
Easily one of my favourite meals out of 2018 (not bad for the end of December!). The food was fantastic (butchers choice sharing meal was especially good) but the service was exemplary. Our server, Will, was polite, knowledgeable and charming. The wine was lovely and well priced. And even the manager (who I asked to speak to to congratulate her on a fantastic restaurant) was smashing too. So forget all those silly expensive 'named' steak places - this is an absolute corker that you'll love.
Fantastic food served by happy friendly staff. There was a good atmosphere where we felt valued as customers.
Had a great Sunday roast.
Had Sunday lunch here which turned out to be a bit disappointing. Whilst the staff were very helpful the food was not up to much as follows:
1. Roast potatoes rather small
2. Gravy was very greasy with 5mm top layer of oil
3. Not much gravy was provided
Also asked for horseradish which they didn't have, sent someone out to the shop to get some but it never turned up.
Just all very average to be honest.
Went for dinner for my birthday, and received a voucher for a birthday G&T or a brownie which was a lovely surprise. We had the Chateaubriand and it was amazing, perfectly cooked and beautifully tender. We chose to have one portion of chips and one of salad and shared them between us, both were very tasty. Service was great, not too much and not too little, our waitress was very friendly. We had the Christmas gin and that was amazing, my hubby couldn't get enough of it! Will be back next time we're in Manchester.
The first thing that struck us was just how noisy it was, making conversation very difficult if not impossible. The music was too loud and clashed with someone playing drums in an adjoining bar. Combined with the packed dining area, the acoustics of the room just coudln’t mitigate the uncomfortable noise levels. Service was good but even our waitress struggled to make herself heard.
Our next disappointment was the T-bone steaks, they were pitifully thin, with plenty of fat and gristle on the sirloin side, (although they were cooked as ordered which must have been difficult given the thin nature of the cuts). The cheeseboard was unspectacular and the Santas hat dessert was positively inedible, with something akin to mastic being used for the base.
Overall, a pretty disappointing experience given the premium price...you can get far better steaks in a superior setting than Alston’s. I’m afraid The fact that they include a 12.5 service charge which is also at a premium because of the sizable bill puts the customer in an awkward position especially when the experience is disappointing but not necessarily the “service” which was okay.
(For comparison purposes you’ll get similar standard of food at Miller & Carter but for a fraction of the cost).
I will continue looking for the best steak in Manchester and could not in all honesty recommend Alston’s because it is not here.
Food was lovely and service was excellent, would definitely recommend.
Best roast I've ever had
Beef supposedly was 35 days matured, however i felt it bled too much for such maturuty.
Though the meat was very good.
Service seemed derailed by a bigger table being in adjacent to us - had to ask twice after we placed a drinks order, mains was missing one of the sides too initially.
Had the Butchers Cuts beteeen the two of us, 2 steaks were 10/10 and medium-rare as requested but one was medium-well. Onion ring VERY oily. Cauli cheese was lovely.
Whole place was really loud because of the raucous table next to us ( I get it, it’s Christmas ) but at some points the front of house could have at least asked them to keep it down a little.
Had really looked forward to going and trying Alston but underwhelmed with it to be honest, have paid slightly less for better quality cookery and better service at Miller and Carter.
Brilliant food service perfect fab drinks a real treat
We had a great work Christmas party x
We dined here on a Wednesday night for my partners birthday whilst visiting Manchester for a couple of days. My partner loves steak and I enjoy a gin or two so this place seemed ideal and had several non steak options for me to choose from. We booked ahead as this was for a special occasion (I would definitely recommend booking even for mid week as the place was pretty busy) and were greeted straight away and taken to our table. The service was great throughout and I was given recommendations on which gins to try for my taste - they even have their own gins which the staff have distilled. We ate three courses, all of which were very tasty and arrived pretty quickly however not too quick to make us feel that we should be finishing up. I’d say we spent around two hours at the restaurant overall.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we would 100% visit again on our next trip to Manchester.
The staff were very welcoming, really friendly and didn’t rush us to make decisions. One of our party was 45 minutes late but the staff kindly waited and didn’t keep bothering us to see when they’d arrive. The food was lovely, especially the steak. It’s not a cheap meal but worth it. Will definitely be going back!
Amazing food and my waiter had great recommendations throughout!
The food was exceptional. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were great. Really enjoyed the meal. Staff very friendly but didn't check in on our table once we'd been served (even though the place was quiet). Ended up leaving without dessert.
Had an amazing visit to Alston, the steak was cooked perfect and the Christmas desert was very sweet but nice!
Will certainly be back!!!
The food was absolutely incredible and our waitress, who I cannot remember the name of, was wonderful! She was so attentive and made our experience just great.
Excellent steak. One of our groups starter was wrong and we had to wait for another bit the staff were very good and kept us informed.
I love Alston Bar and Beef, it's my favourite steak restaurant in Manchester, this time my steak was overly fatty and the chef agreed. They corrected it by offering free dessert, which I didnt want so they too 20% off the bill. The service was impeccable as ever and the sides as well as steak are delicious. I recommend the Mac and cheese with brisket mmmmm
Possibly Manchester's most underrated steakhouse. Been multiple times now and think it is a great place and great value.
The place is great service good but I was a bit disappointed this time as I wanted to try the burger as my husband had it last time and it was sold out so chose the this beef which was the wrong choice for me as I didn’t enjoy it at all it want what I expected and for me wasn’t that tasty. But my husband really enjoyed it so I think it was just the wrong choice.hopefully next time I can try the burger as my husband said it was amazing last time. The ambience is lovely just right and the place is lovely.
Amazing steak Christmas Gin was divine. Service top notch
Have been a few times and can’t fault it x
Main issue is the dismissive door host - more interested in being on his computer and flouncing round - felt us being there was an inconvenience.
Cocktails on bar not great
Girl who served us was fab - didn’t catch her name but she has made my overall review increase to 3 *
Food & wine is over priced in my opinion however the mac & brisket was amazing.
Would not return
Alston Bar and Beef if the best Steakhouse I have ever been to. The food is outstanding and the service is immpecable.
The service was good with friendly and attentive staff. Food was excellent. Fantastic steaks and truffle chips!
Went for my birthday with my wife. Food was fantastic and the service was fantastic. Even got a free brownie for it being my birthday! Steaks tasted fantastic. Good wine.
One of the best steaks I’ve had.
Dessert menu could do with a plain chocolate brownie or chocolate cake.
Amazing food, the butchers cuts were fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
Best steak in town !
