Alvarium a friendly neighbourhood cocktail bar located in a secret corner of the Northern Quarter. Alvarium is a Latin word that loosely translates to the hive in English. In this spirit, we are quickly becoming the central meeting place for our wonderful customers to meet and have a great time, without the sting of pinching prices.

Brunch is served everyday till 3pm, all brunch bookings are seated in Alvarium. To book for brunch select a 'bar' table when booking.

For dining in our new subterranean restaurant Black Leaf, the 'standard' table options should be selected when booking. Black Leaf is open from 5pm-10pm Monday - Saturday. On Sundays we serve our Sunday Roast menu only. Only Black Leaf is available for bookings via Open Table at the time being, for any Alvarium evening bookings just for drinks or bar snacks please give us a call on 07947 556275 or email us on info@alvariummcr.co.uk.

Food was amazing, a great place for casual cocktails in a good location, however the service was terrible!! We had to ask to order drinks then ask again to order food, the food then took 50min to come when the restaurant seemed very quiet.

I just would like to thank the staff for arranging a cute welcome for my boyfriend as he had his birthday that day. The staff went beyond expectations as I requested a little surprise for him. The food and drinks were spectacular. We will return to Alvarium & Lazy Tony’s Lasagneria for sure! A huge thank you for a lovely staff. You should visit this place. :)

Disappointed! I ordered vegan lasagne and it was mostly pasta sheets, no flavour, hardly any filling sauce or vegan cheese My meat eating boyfriend makes me a miles better vegan lasagne. So was disappointed coming to a lasagne place.My friend ordered a pasta under the Mac section thinking it would be Mac and cheese and it was just plane tomato pasta, nothing to it! Fair enough it’s her mistake but could have been clearer, easy mistake to make. And was very boring plane tomato pasta. We ordered garlic bread and no garlic, butter or oil came in it, it was more like bread and herbs, very nice bread and herbs don’t get me wrong! But not garlic bread which is what we ordered…

The food was amazing! Loved everything we ordered and shared. They had sold out of quite a few dishes unfortunately but it was their last night being open in that location so understandable. The tables were quite small and close to the people next to us but I think the new location might have more space! We were tight on time due to a show we needed to get to at a certain time so had to rush the food towards the end - I'm looking forward to visiting again and taking my time to enjoy the food even more!

Very friendly staff and a beautiful open kitchen restaurant made for a very lovely evening. The food was delicious, we had the Guinness cauliflower, red lentil dahl, sweet potato bake and the coq au vin which were all superb.

Absolute 10/10 first time we’ve ever been and we will definitely be back again, the sweet potato bake and the Guinness glazed cauliflower were amazing!!! It’s great value for money, and our waitress was sick!!

The food was tasty in my opinion, particularly the Guinness cauliflower, but very rich and not to everyone's taste in my party. The service was very slow. I can appreciate it's tapas and that dishes come out sporadically as and when they're done, but we were seated at 7pm and by 9pm one of us was still waiting for our final dish. I'm glad I experienced it but I do not think I will go back or recommend it.

The best vegan food I've ever had. Each plate was so flavoursome, the service and way they came out was just perfect. My friends had a cocktail and enjoyed it, I was happy to see a different alcohol free beer to the usual Becks Blue. Can't wait to come back again

Lovely staff, wonderful food, great atmosphere, good value - a great night. Will definitely be returning. The chefs have got really creative here and the flavours were impressive. The mushroom scallops really did look like scallops.

Tasty food. Fairly focussed on root veg - but that may be because several dishes were unavailable. Loved that there was lots of vegetable dishes rather than fake meat things. Staff were fairly curt and transactional.

Took my mam and sister (not vegan) for a mother's day meal and both loved it! Food was delicious, new menu is amazing - my mam said it was the best food she's ever eaten. Portion sizes were good, had 9 plates between us which was a bit too much. Definitely recommend!!

Disappointed by the lack of items left on the menu considering our booking was at around 7 in the evening on a Friday. Disappointed by the portion sizes given the price. Disappointed by the service, the waitress was unwelcoming and had absolutely no customer service skills. She spent as little time at the table, and did as little talking, as possible. Our bottle of wine was dumped on our table with the lid on and then we were left to open and pour it ourselves. Our order was wrong (missing 2 of 5 dishes) and we were never checked on to see if we were enjoying our food or if we required anything else. Overall a disappointing experience.

The new menu is incredible! The head chef Chrissy has created such a tasty selection of dishes, the service was great and everyone was really friendly. Will definitely be back, and I am so keen to try the vegan roast!
