SPECTACULAR service and food. Originally had a reservation for 5 and they were easily able to accommodate the 7, had some out of town people visiting. Restaurant week usually means a lot of business and slower than normal service but not at AMBAR! Drinks were always filled, food was always coming out. I had a big party, 7, and our server was thoughtful in bringing more than one of the tapas we would order that way we would all have the opportunity to enjoy everything, which we did!!! We could tell our server and also, Ljubodrag Mojsilovic, wanted us to feel like guests in their home and we truly felt it. I would come back again and again to Ambar and recommend you all do as well.

I feel SO sad to give a review for Ambar that isn't 5 starts. BUT, our server on Friday night was completely lackluster. He wouldn't smile, didn't speak directly to any of us and didn't check on our table frequently. We had a great time because the food is always so good, but unfortunately service can make or break a restaurant experience and this time at Ambar my entire group was walking out disappointed.

Very busy for lunch the day we went. It was unlimited plates, but we did not receive all our selections which was disappointing. The plates that we did get were excellent, but because of the volume of customers it took some time to get our food. Staff were friendly.

Our Ambar Restaurant Week experience was outstanding. We were greeted by the General Manager, who gave us a glass each of champagne because we were celebrating our anniversary. The waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and kind and made sure that we were set throughout the entire dinner. At the end of our dinner, we were given a small dessert on the house as well.

The ambiance and service were fantastic. The food was also superb. We will definitely come back and highly recommend others to check it out.

We were in town and always like to try something different when we're in D.C. None of us had ever tried Balkan food before and we were excited to be introduced to something new. This place was awesome. We all did the Balkan dinner ($35) and the waitress helped us decide what to pick. This restaurant is the place to go especially if you have people on mixed diets. We had a Keto, a Paleo, a Vegetarian and a Vegan and everyone raved!!! We'll definitely go back next time we're in town.

The food and the service is lovely, but the noise level is miserable. The "music" Ambar plays is the same thumping percussion sound track loop that I've heard in some other DC area restaurants. What the "noise level" category above defines as energetic, I would define as chaotic. Our party of four just had to scream over the table in order to talk, so mostly we ate in silence. Well, WE were silent, but nothing else was! The tables for two seemed to have less trouble communicating with each other, and those did comprise the majority of the diners. The food was wonderful, but I will consider doing carry-out next time.

I went with a friend during restaurant week for a $35 unlimited tapas experience. It was incredible to say the least, and well worth in excess of $80 worth of food we ate. The regular price is ~$45, but still absolutely worth it to get a wide range of small plates.

Lovely experience, per usual. The winter menu is DEVINE. The white truffle flatbread, sesame crusted salmon, grilled asparagus, and steak tartare were some of my favs.

The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout our dining experience. I am so excited for their space to expand -- I'm sure it's going to look amazing and allow me to bring even larger parties in. Ambar is by far my favorite spot to take a group of friends or anyone visiting -- such a unique, fun, and affordable experience.

The lunch special at AMBAR is amazing: Unlimited small plates for $20 pp. And what a wide range of options! We had mushroom flatbread, cabbage in a delicious sauce, leek croquettes, lamb sliders, Brussels sprouts with a yogurt topping, grilled shrimp, and a meat pie. The waiter sized all the orders so they were large enough to share. All the servers were friendly and seemed really happy to have us--and we were very happy to be there! We will return to try the salads, sausages, and other interesting choices.

My experience at Ambar exceeded my expectations. Barbara waited on us and was attentive and welcoming, as always. The food was deliscious and the drinks were never left empty. Our favorite manager, Druzza, always makes time to come say hello and make sure everything is wonderful. If you’ve never done the Balkan Experience, you should put it on your list. For under $40, you enjoy limitless small plates and brunch cocktails. The food and drinks are always tasty and consistent and the staff treat you as if you are family. By far my favorite place to brunch in Dc!

Wow,loved the concept, food, service, uniqueness . We celebrated a birthday and were treated to a beautiful brunch experience sharing small plates of waffles and poached pears , egg and steak/sausage, wonderful Balkan dishes soup, salad , bread and spreads . really looking forward to retuning for dinner. Parking was a pain as can be expected for 8 th st se, but that will not deter me from a second Balkan experience . Check out their menu on website.

I recently did the $35 all-you-can-eat option at Ambar and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The menu offered a variety of interesting options and everything was delicious. I was particularly fond of the leek croquettes, cheese pie, and mushroom flatbread. The price point was really good for the amount of food you can enjoy. Highly recommend!

The three of us ordered the Ambar experience and were not disappointed. We managed to taste half of the menu and would have ordered seconds but saved room for dessert. Do not pass up the Forest Gnocchi. A true delightful way to end our meal.

We were there for brunch. Food was OK and service was great. But if you don’t eat pork your options are being %50 less, if you’re vegan or vegetarian look for another spot.

A friend and I had an awesome lunch at Ambar yesterday! It had been a while since my last visit and boy has it changed, all positive by me ... and I always thought it very good!!

When Ambar first opened on Barracks Row, many menu items were pretty different to Hill dining regulars. Although a bit Americanized from traditional Balkan food, even so items were still on somewhat unfamiliar ground. Not anymore!! The menu has expanded greatly, is very relatable to diners while still being regionally authentic, and I love the new pricing model. We chose the fixed price lunch , which allows one to order as many small plates as desired for $19.99 per person!! It was all delicious and service was excellent too, thank you Marta!!

Finally, sending huge kudos to Ambar re attention to food allergy, as a member is gluten sensitive. Ambar has a separate menu with an allergy legend for each item, like a menu crib sheet, noting if it’s gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, nut free. Very comprehensive, a wonderful key to the main menu!! It took away uncertainty and the need for lots of questions, concerns. The most respectful treatment and care of folks with food allergies/sensitivities I’ve seen. Thank you!!
