Ambar Capitol Hill
Delicious food, interesting cocktails, and solid service. Some of the foods struck me as slightly different versions of foods I’d grown up eating as an American of Polish descent. Some really amazing dishes. I won’t list mine as others have already done that and much will be a matter of personal taste, but definitely check out the Ambar experience. As long as they keep it the value it is for sampling this cuisine you won’t be disappointed. We’ll definitively be back!
Great unique food. Good to know that unlimited options were smaller size - not as great a value as it first seemed, but we still opted for this to try a larger variety. Hadn't realized our server was just bringing us her choices, so we finally interjected to order a few dishes we wanted to try. However, her selections were better than our choices. Service decent. Sat in table closest to restroom and there was VERY strong sewage odor which detracted from overall experience.
Just stuffed from the all-you-can eat deal and everything was delicious!
We have been here several times for brunch over the last couple of years( pretty much when they first started serving brunch, when you would get a full steak and a whole waffle!!) We literally come to the brunch for the waffles! We were seated upstairs which was cool since we've only been up there twice, once on the rooftop and another time in the section overlooking the front portion of the restaurant.
We were greeted 10 minutes after sitting and our orders were taking. About 10 minutes after we sat a party of three sat by us. First they got their drinks and food before us 3 plates to be exact (yes i counted) then finally we got our drinks and our first round of waffles. Not only were the waffles cold but we watched as the other table recieved more food. So we eat the waffles because we were starving but we let the waitress know. We get our second round and long and behold our waffles are cold again. This time i have her send it back and i wait patiently for a hot waffle! We ordered steak and eggs which was great but the portions became smaller and smaller each time we ordered them. In all this wasnt my favorite expereince here. I'm disappointed because this was truly my favorite brunch spot. But the inconsistency with the food and the "strange" waitress really killed it for me. I will give it one more go around and hopefully things are back to "normal".
They put us in the absolute back corner by the bathrooms which was disgusting — other patrons made comments about it. Gross.
One of the best meals I’ve had
Superb tapas style restaurant!
I have never tried Balkan food before and it was a revelation !! Food was amazing. Love the concept of eating tapas style , that way we could try everything ( almost ). Service was kind and when we told them we were visiting from out of state , at the end they gave us for free a beautiful dessert! If you come to DC you must try this place
Go for the unlimited option. A little bit of sticker shock ($50 per person) but you’ll easily spend that here. The wine included in the unlimited option is decent.
This was the best restaurant I have EVER been to. The food was some of the best I have ever had. Our waitress ordered everything for us and it was all AMAZING. The drinks were so well done and you could tell were made with fresh ingredients. Will definitely return when we are back in DC.
They were especially accommodating with our reservation. Food and service were great!
Delicious food, great server. Next time we are in town we will. D back
I eat out frequently. I have been to a number of highly rated restaurants in DC. Without question, Ambar is among the best of those offering small plates. We sampled a variety of dishes -- beet salad, brussel sprouts, salmon, lamb, etc. Each was cooked to perfection and served immediately after being prepared. The service was first class. Even the desert menu was a treat. Highly recommended.
Great find for excellent Serbian food and ambiance -
only recommendation is to upgrade the washroom facilities.
We were rushed out of the restaurant, our waitress even came over and handed us our check without us asking. The food is great but the service was slow and unwelcoming.
Nice place for meeting up with friends, mostly a yuppy crowd. Food was not very exciting but a good place to try a wide variety. Only memorable dish was baby beet salad with goat cheese. The starters, a variety of cheeses & spreads were not memorable. Meat & seafood dishes fare a little better. For fixed price of $49 for endless small plates and bottomless drinks (selected) is worth it if you are either very hungry or a big eater. Overall unimpressed but checked off my list of to try place.
Great food and great service. Kudos to Laura, she was the hostess with the mostest!
Love Ambar. But not thrilled about brunch menu. Typical American brunch. Love dinner Balkan experience. But not American brunch.
Amazing spot with amazing music!
Love Ambar's brunch. Our service was a bit slow because it was busy, but our server was delightful.
A big group of us went out to celebrate a friend’s birthday and they were very accommodating. The food was great (and authentic according to one of our guests who is Serbian). The service was excellent. Thank you!
Wonderful food, wonderful wait staff, and superb experience and hospitality all around. Whole staff deserved big tips :)
The restaurant was ok but I wouldn’t say it was exceptional. Overall distinctly average.
The food is very diverse, great quality and food presentation was excellent! We had two waitresses, Barbora and Milicia and they were outstanding! I highly recommend this restaurant for a great culinary experience.
I can't say enough about how awesome the food, ambiance, and service was at Ambar. This will be a go-to spot every time I visit DC.
Favorite place in DC! Great food and service. Manager was amazing and we will definitely be back
Bojan was great, thank you for the lovely dinner
We will be back!
This is a fantastic and unusual restaurant. I visit it whenever I come to Washington DC. The service is amazingly friendly and the food was scrumptious. Don’t miss it!
Visited after moving away for five years. Was as good as I remembered.
It was our first visit and we be back. We loved the atmosphere, the service, the friendliness, and the food. For $35/person, you can order all the small plates you want. Everyone at the table has to also do the $35 small plates. It was a perfect solution because if you like something, you can order again. Lots of very tasty food. My favorite was the almond crusted chicken with the apple & wasabi garnish. So yummy. The shrimp was great, also the trout & salmon. The grilled asparagus & Brussel sprouts were delicious.
We will definitely be back. Not a meal to be rushed. At the end, we were too full for dessert. But they brought a delicious little plate of donut holes with thank you written in cream. Such a nice touch!
Very good food and service. Our server was attentive and made sure we always had plates coming in!
This is a great date night spot. For $50/per person you can get all-you-can-eat food and drinks. The food comes as small plates which are easy to share. We were a group of three and we stuffed our faces with 25 plates of food! The place is very popular on weekends, make sure to make reservations.
Great food, price, and service. The food came out on time and the waiter was very helpful when we had questions.
The food is fun and diverse. The service is fantastic! They were attentive and readily available. Loved it.
Good food and wine but outstanding service. Waitress was very helpful and attentive and even allowed us to sample several wines. We split a the large meat platter, which was decent, and had the veal soup, which was excellent. Next time, and there will be a next, I will come more hungry and get the all-you-can eat and drink option and get more variety.
Great food, fair prices on everything. Left unable to eat another bite and will definitely be back.
Wonderful bottomless brunch! The small plate portions a perfect. You basically can try just about everything on the menu - and all are certainly worth trying! Highly recommended but make sure you have reservations well in advance because they’re popular and book up pretty fast.
Ambar is consistently an awesome experience. The food is excellent and the service is attentive and knowledgeable. Try the Ambar experience for $49 and get unlimited small plates and drinks, such a great deal.
