Ambar Capitol Hill
The service was great overall but our server was beyond great! She was helpful, patient and friendly. Our entire experience was warm and welcoming with an excellent variety of food choices which were presented in an interesting way and tasted incredible! I would highly recommend Ambar Capitol Hill to anyone living or visiting DC.
My date and I had a great experience at this restaurant. We will definitely return!
It's a great place and the food is delicious. The stuff is very friendly as well!
Will definitely go back there's
Overall, a great experience. We had one person missing from our party and still had to pay for their brunch. That was disappointing; took away from a nearly perfect experience.
The service was friendly, but confusing - our server was making suggestions and putting the orders in for us, but there was a lot of confusion about what had been ordered and what had come out and what the dishes that had arrived were - the food also came out very slowly! But the overall vibe was great and the food was really delicious!
If there is a better deal in DC than the Balkan Experience, I don’t know what it is!
We are from out of town and the entire experience was stellar.
I have eaten brunch at Ambar on many occasions because the food is amazing. However, this last visit I was very disappointed with our waiter and the manager. They were not helpful or understanding when I expressed my disappointment that our 2 hour brunch was abruptly cut short, through no fault of mine. Next time, I wish they make clear that brunch reservations after 2:15pm must end by 3:30. I felt rushed.
Came here for the first time this past weekend and it did not disappoint! The service was super quick, I didn't even have time to ask for another mimosa, the waiter came over each time he saw my glass empty! The food was delicious and loved the portion sizes so I could try a little bit of everything!
The service was as good as it could get anywhere you go. Food as delicious and varied in flavors as our first visit.
Great food as always! Love love love this place! I always try to go when I’m in town.
Fantastic time during restaurant week. Rufiya was the best waitress and we had so much fun!
We were seated almost an hour late, but the staff served us champagne while we waited, so that was very nice! The food was INCREDIBLE, as always, which is why I picked this spot to hang out with my friends. I was the only one who’d eaten there before and everyone left happy and satisfied. All my friends raved about how good the food is and they’re planning to come back for brunch next time. I highly recommend this place for large groups because the tapas-style bottomless serving is perfect for trying and sharing food. It really brings everyone together!
First time visit for my birthday. I loved the serve. Every time is need answers about the food they were right at me table. I will come again. Thanks
The almond chicken was amazing
Service was incredibly slow and took forever to get our food. Seems like the restaurant was overwhelmed with restaurant week and there was no order or efficiency to how and when tables were being served. Our waitress was nice and thoughtful, but the experience overall was a flop given the above. As they also have a 2 hour maximum slot, we waited over an hour for our food and if wanted to order more, it would take another x amount of time. We did propose to leave but that seemed to trigger a reaction...
This was easily my favorite meal in DC in 10 years! I enjoyed every bite, and the service was excellent. We never felt rushed and the staff encouraged us to keep trying new things. My husband said that the mussels in particular were the best he's ever had, and I couldn't get enough of the stuffed cabbage. The staff made sure our glasses were always full, and the general manager even stopped by multiple times to check on us, chat a little about the food, and get to know us. We will definitely be back, and will be bringing friends and family.
Food was average, nothing special. Service was good.
Fun way to try a novel cuisine. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions and careful with food allergies.
Loved our experience from sitting down to paying the check! The servers were super informative about the menu and very accommodating to special dietary restrictions. The food was amazing and came out at the perfect time! Don't skip dessert :)
Nice ambiance, friendly but incompetent service, food is generally tasty but extremely fatty-oily, some dishes are simply burned. We had a strange fatty aftertaste in our mouth (both my husband and myself) even the next morning. Two of four dishes I wanted to order based on their online menu were not available. We did not like the wines, but perhaps there are better choices available that we did not pick? The young crowd is pleasant and fun but the table next to us yelled so loud that we could not hear one another. SO: OK to try a new place, but definitely not a repeat.
Our greeting at the reception desk was very strange. We were there at 4:30 pm on a Sunday. A woman walked right by us without acknowledging us. Then there was a whole to-do about whether we had a reservation at that location (which we did). Meanwhile the restaurant was empty and was still not full after we ate. Our server was great, and the food was delicious.
Ambar is top notch every time!
Been coming to Ambar for a couple of years now. One of the best bottomless brunches in D.C. Food delicious, drinks well made, management stellar. Will be back!
Lamb medallions were sad and disappointing. Brussels Sprouts and Sesame crusted salmon were delicious
Another fantastic dinner enjoying the Full Balkan Experience. Ambar does not disappoint!
Amazing as always! We absolutely had a great time there! Drinks are soooooo good and food is served really fast.
It’s a small plate after all. But, an exquisite small plate experience.
Very different experience. Excellent food and service.
Small plates, well prepared. The lunch express special is a great deal! Stuffed cabbage, lamb sliders and salmon were stand outs
First time eating Serbian food. Lots of variety and small plates to share. Recommended.
This was my first time at this location. We regularly visit the Arlington VA location which we love. This ambiance, menu, staff and customer service was subpar at this location. I brought my mom to this location for convenience since she was visiting from out of town and we wanted to celebrate her for her birthday.
The food was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed the entire experience for Balkan brunch. We had the last reservation for brunch (2p) and the kitchen was closing within an hr (330p) of our table sitting down and getting drinks ordered, so we had to rush the overall experience. The only drawback was our server was very short with us. Even after we told him it was our first time at the restaurant, he was not very open to explaining how things operate for the Balkan experience service EXCEPT to remind us we had very little time to order before kitchen closing. He eventually, after some prompting, explained how the menu and the brunch experience worked and the best way to order for the table. Overall, an enjoyable experience and I will be returning but hopefully the wait staff will be more courteous.
Great place for brunch! Good value! Tasty small plate meals.
Great brunch deal for $39. All you can drink mimosas and unlimited small plates, which were all quite tasty. The mimosas weren't spectacular, but not bad. Place is small and crowded, esp. since the rooftop was closed on the beautiful Saturday afternoon when I visited, so that was disappointing.
Great service, friendly knowledgeable staff, and efficient and speedy service. The food was great and so were the drinks
Absolutely phenomenal evening. Great value. Always do the Balkan experience! Strongly recommend the Mango Lemonade
50th Birthday for my lovely wife
Staff very attentive and helpful. We went with the "Ambar Experience" so we could have unlimited selection of their many different plates. It's $49 per person if you include drinks, but only $35 per person without drinks. We don't drink alcohol, so we found that the latter was a much better option and we ordered a couple regular drinks separately. We ended up ordering A LOT of different plates through multiple rounds and were there for almost two hours, so we definitely got our money's worth. Staff was patient throughout and made no indication that we were overstaying our welcome. In fact, they were very free about giving us their recommendations! Would definitely visit again.
