Ammas Canteen have everything just right. The food, the service, the ambiance and the price. I can’t believe it took us so long to visit living just down the road. We’ll be back time and time again!

We chose this place for the reviews and large number of options for the vegetarians. There was enough of us to order one of almost everything on the menu. Every single plate was practically licked clean. Particularly loved the cauliflower dish and the stuffed okra. So much so one of our party decided to get the cauliflower again while we had dessert. Small local restaurants with excellent food and lovely people serving. The chef came out to chat to us what a character. Would go again

Nice restaurant and nice staff.
We have had lots of this style street food and maybe we selected to many tapas but unfortunately we didn't get the wow factor, as other similar restaurants- sorry.
However really nice people.
Also location is poor if you don't drive. Which we didn't...
It's a neither in chlorine or didsbury and 20min+ walk to the nearest bar.
Ok but just ok - in my opinion

I am not sure why this restaurant was Trip Advisor Restaurant of the year. For Indian food it was really bland and disappointing. Indian tapas we were told by the restaurant... small portions aside the food was dull and how do you mess up wings? The wing coating was mushy. Even my child said the food lacked spice. The manager told us the speciality of the restaurant is that they serve the food of the poor-the irony of how much we had to pay for pauper portions was lost on him. The only redeeming dish was the main fish-it tasted fresh and we were delighted to find something vaguely aromatic. The staff were nice and the idea is a good one, but oh my what a disappointment.

Unlike most Indian restaurants the menu choices were small but very innovative. To begin we had 5 dishes to share and each were beautifully cooked and presented. The main courses were equally delicious and the meat-free choices were good.

The restaurant is uncluttered and contemporary and the ambience is good. The staff were friendly, unobtrusive and extremely knowledgeable about the food. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Having been here in November 2017, couldn't wait to return the food was so delicious. This time it was simply absolutely awful. Grissly lamb curry in a brown sauce that was neither gravy or curry. It was dreadful. We hated it

Something different. An Indian restaurant very much needed in Manchester.

Very fresh, authentic and different South Indian food. Chef/owner happy to discuss the ingredients and cooking of the dishes with diners. A relaxed environment and friendly atmosphere.

Great tasting food, and not all the run of the mill stuff you find in most Indian Restuarants

My second visit and the food was, as the first, excellent. Very different from the other asian restaurants in the locality (and in fact in manchester). Great for vegans with nearly all the veggie choices being suitable for vegans too. Don't expect your usual curry, rice and nan combo... this is different and as such, makes for a great foodie occasion. The only slight disappointment is we felt the draught Kingfisher beer tasted slightly eggy.

A fantastic meal for my wife and I. The food was perfectly traditional with complex and well balanced spicing throughout. We had the beef sukka which was sublime and melts in the mouth, the chili prawns which were delicious and I could've eaten a pot's worth. Along with the crispy and succulent chicken 45 and white anchovies. We also had the chicken dosa which was made to perfection. I would whole heartedly recommend Ammas canteen, not just for the food which is very reasonably priced but also the fantastic, friendly and courteous service that made the whole experience a very pleasant and authentic one which we will no doubt be doing again in the very near future
