Whilst Italian and Japanese cuisines may seem worlds apart, at their core they share very similar values; food is regional, seasonal and created with minimal meddling and the deepest respect. We are passionate about these similarities and look forward to welcoming you with a smile!
Great place, nice food! First time there but will definitely visit again.
What a gem !
What a truly amazing place. Such a warm welcome and we enjoyed sitting at the bar top to witness the theatre of the kitchen produce some of the most fantastic food we've tasted. A lot of love and such hard work has gone into this place and its resulted in something very very special! Thanks to Josh for looking after us so well. Can't wait to be back soon. You HAVE to be here soon & enjoy xx
The food is so interesting and innovative, the produce are so good (those strawberries! the tomatoes! the courgette flower!) and the 5 plates for £38 is a great deal, the menu offers variety and it's perfect to share and get a couple of extra dishes from the a la carte menu.
We loved the pasta and risotto dishes, and all the starters.
The dessert was divine.
The "main" were the only slightly disappointing dishes, but still decent.
The interior is so pretty.
The staff is friendly and attentive, although the service had weird speed times.
The starters were on our table in 5 mins, but for ordering and receiving the dessert we waited 40mins. I will definitely go back and recommend this to friends!
Amazing food and idea of fusion. Produce is very high quality. We had a very special evening.
I love that they change the menu weekly and the duck i had was amazing. risotto is a little salty but over the ambience, service was great! Amazing place for a date or catch up
Chose Angelina on a friends recommendation and it did not disappoint. We arrived a little earlier than we booked and while waiting for friends decided to explore the wine list. The waiter for our table was very knowledgeable and informative, giving a very nice recommendation.
As a group we chose the taster menu with paired wine. It was delightful. The tempura tomato a personal highlight.
Lovely food, very attentive staff, and would certainly come back again!
We had a great evening - celebrating a family milestone. We loved the cosy bar for cocktails (we arrived annoyingly early but the staff were charming), very attentive waiters who let us know exactly how long our table would be, no one made an issue of the fact that we were 4 instead of the 5 that we had booked for, explained the somewhat unusual (but not unexpected) menu arrangement and were generally very friendly and accommodating without being overly obsequious. Only slight niggle was the noise levels - acoustic treatment needed. The buzz is great but also nice to be able to hear what everyone is saying! Have already recommended and would come again. Jay Rayner is to be thanked for our visit btw...
Visiting this restaurant was a wonderful experience. We were seated at the counter and were able to observe the amazing chefs in action. The food was outstanding and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. One of the best meals we have had .
A real surprise! Absolutely loved our meal here. The food was fantastic and the staff so friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
Exciting combinations of beautifully presented Japanese/Italian dishes. There was a buzzy atmosphere. Very enjoyable evening.
Had an absolute excellent time - that said, though service was lovely attentive at the start, once the restaurant started to grow busy towards the middle of the meal, it became a bit more sparse and curt.
Excellent food - inventive menu and great value. Lovely ambiance and relaxed atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend.
The food was delicious, loved the decor and ambiance, and the staff were lovely.
The food combo's were amazing and incredibly fresh and vibrant. Our only disappointment was the desert which was I think was called Green Match Tiramisu..and some other flavours, but all it tasted of was cream. It looked colourful but it did not excite. We did give our feedback at the time. However the rest of the food is a delight. We will be back again for sure. A fine addition to Dalston.
Can’t fault it
Food was amazing, but the stools at the bar were incredibly uncomfortable. It really made the experience much less pleasant.
First Time we went (about 1 month ago) the set menu was brilliant, very interesting with raw fish for the crudi starters, unagi risotto, exotic mushrooms and generous portions. Last week the crudi were basically salami and cheese, with one smallish dish of each to share between six people and one mini cube of focaccia each. They couldn't give us any extra focaccia or bread because apparently they only make the bare minimum for each table. The fritti starters were great both times. The main was beef and potatoes. Yes, the beef was marinaded in soy sauce, but it was just standard (good) beef.
At the end of the day, the food was good but wasn't the interesting italian-japanese fusion we had the first time, which was the main reason we went back a second time. Basically I'm sad that this restaurant went (in my experience) from something unique to something average.
The place itself is very nice although quite noisy when busy.
Lovely food - table a little cramped and noisy but great service- perhaps make it clearer when explaining food and wine - but lovely overall
The best. Simply love it here.
delicious ! Angelo (I think he is called) was amazing :D xx
Disappointed by the food. While the starters were great - creative blend of classic Italian and Japanese - the main course was a real let down. Steak, potatoes and spinach lacked flavour and reminded me of food at a conference venue or similar. Shame as it’s a good concept in lovely surroundings.
Best meal I’ve had in London in ages - loved it!
I am a local who has lived in Hackney for 20 years. This restaurant is about 10 minutes walk from my house next to London Fields. So I booked via OpenTable and went to the restaurant. But a female staff very reluctantly received me and said to take a seat on the counter in the least courteous manner.
The tasting menu was miserable. Starter dishes used too much salt and soy sauce and some dishes were too simple Japanese family cooking, which I could have done when I had nothing much in the fridge..... But once they are placed in the lovely plates, perhaps the Brits might wish to pay high prices..... I felt a bit clumsy to eat a tempura-ish pricey single piece using folk and knife (as the first time experience) .... Pasta dish was fine but I hardly tasted any hint of 'dashi' ..... and too much asparagus ........... my patience reached the limit when the meat dish was served. Perhaps it was 'wagyu (Japanese-born and grown)' but the taste suggests that obviously it was born and grew up abroad...... wagyu cooking should have been done more carefully and skilfully. I did not stay until the dessert. Sorry. I could have imagined what kind of 'dessert' could have been served to me..... but I did well not to benefit from the ingenious dessert product.
If I am asked whether the fusion or combination of Italian and Japanese has been successful in this restaurant, I would say 'No'. Sorry.
The only positive feature of this restaurant is the services by a young gentleman who served the dishes, and who professionally cared and looked after the customers.
Really fantastic experience - we were made to feel very welcome and were well looked after the team! Food was excellent, and there's a great Italian focused wine list as well.
I I don’t like writing slightly negative reviews but in this case I hope I’m doing so in order to help to improve. Firstly the good things: the starters were excellent; a huge variety of really interesting food nicely presented and well cooked. All in all I think if the areas that I mention are improved then the food is good value for money. And the indifferent things: the pasta course was okay nothing to write home about. I reckon I could have made it as well. The fusion concept is really just Italian food with some Japanese sauces which is fine, but I’ve been known to add soy to a bolognese in my time. One area of disagreement between me and my partner was the dessert. I found it creamy but not very tasty whereas my partner loved it and downed it in about 10 seconds. So to the big disappointment: the duck was cold as were all its accoutrements. I am sure they would’ve been very tasty but eating a cold main course is just not good. Service was ok but the place was full and noisy and my stool (I’m quite small) was very uncomfortable
Great ambience & background music, very tasty & interesting dishes, good service, overall very enjoyable evening!
Great place, excellent service and athmosphere. The food tastes amazing. Been on several occasions, the menu changes weekly so I will return for sure again.
It's beautifully decorated but it is a small room, so if you arrive as a couple, you might well be seated at the bar so that groups can have the individual tables. Not a problem, you get to watch the brigade at work in the open kitchen. Service is terrific; not servile, but friendly, educative and very efficient. I loved the menu here, starting with the fact that it is set and I didn't have to choose anything. It builds beautifully, from the tempura-style vegetables and dipping sauces, via a sensational bowl of clams, grains and salmon sashimi tartare, to the grilled pork, which was delicious. If I hadn't been sitting so close to the head chef, I might have vocalised the sensation that there was just a bit too much salt added to dishes already dressed with soya sauce. But it's a small point, given the adventure in the menu, and the excellence in the presentation. I'll definitely be back, to show off my discovery to friends.
We booked Angelina’s for lunch to catch up with friends and check out the intriguing fusion of 🇮🇹 and 🇯🇵. 3 hours later we departed with a smile on our faces after a really enjoyable experience. We went for the taster menu which was excellent with a wide variety of dishes (Risotto was my favourite). The wine accompanying the courses was also palatable to say the least . Our host looked after us really well, and helped keep our toddler entertained throughout! There is plenty of space, a chance to see your food being prepared, and even a small bar to hang out in. Will definitely be heading back in the coming months. Thanks Angelina.
Service was fantastic: very friendly, knowledgable and accommodating of our late arrival. Ambience solid, esp eating at the bar with view direct onto the kitchen, and the little hidden back bar is a nice touch. Don’t sit at the bar if you’re wearing your finest, btw, air extraction is poor and you’ll smell of food for the rest of the night.
The food was unfortunately boring: nothing on the tasting menu benefitting from the fusion, and a far cry from Japanese food. Tempura poorly executed, sashimi tasteless, ramen fine but made with pulled pork and served with a fork and spoon. The separate risotto dish was the best thing we ate.
The food is very good. The service is a bit chaotic.
Our first meal at Angelina, just down the road form home, really enjoyed the Japanese inflection of the five course Italian-style set menu. We actually found it quite filling with pasta, risotto and a rice pudding as sweet but the style and combinations were intriguing and very enjoyable. A lighter dessert would have been preferable. Service was knowledgeable and attentive. The background music was too much in the foreground as the room filled up; hard bebop seemed an odd choice for a Sunday evening. Highly recommended and on our doorstep!
I booked a surprise dinnerfor my wife and I at Angelina and we really enjoyed the taste of the food and loved sitting at the bar watching the chefs do their work. Considering the amount of courses you get, it is great value for money too.
These guys know what they’re doing. Ex River Cafe and Boca de Lupo and it shows. Food, service and ambiance are extraordinary and right on our doorstep.
Awesome concept and place. They totally delivered on food and wine pairing. Great looking restaurant.
Food that will make you climax, wine that will make you fall in love.
Started out at the beautiful marble communal table and finished my night in their hidden micro bar begging for more japanese whisky.
My new favourite place in London.
All the dishes we tried were good. And well executed. Tagliolini with crab very good. I still think menu need to be reviewed/improved. I prefer the usual structure menu with starter main and side. Wine by the carafe really nice and good value. Overall good.
Yummy food and excellent service!
I wasn't sure what to expect with an Italian Japanese fusion restaurant, having visited both countries multiple times and tasted the cuisines to some great depth, but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. We had the 6 course tasting menu and each dish blended Italian and Japanese cuisine seamlessly. The quality of the food was of such great standard, that I felt that it was very good value for money as typically restaurants which produce such food charge double the price, but I guess that's because it is still a relatively "new kid on the block". The service was great, with the waiting staff being very personable and providing detailed breakdowns of every item in the menu, as well as being very accommodating of dietary requirements. There was also a nifty 6 person bar, which looked very cute and romantic, but unfortunately we didn't have time to have a drink there.
