Whilst Italian and Japanese cuisines may seem worlds apart, at their core they share very similar values; food is regional, seasonal and created with minimal meddling and the deepest respect. We are passionate about these similarities and look forward to welcoming you with a smile!
Very nice atmosphere but the food didn’t live upto it’s hype, most of the dishes was way too salty. I didn’t understand the french/Japanese fusion, the dishes were french where for the Japanese fusion they either added some fish/soy which didn’t work. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for the food but atmosphere was good.
I am afraid that the tasting menu considerably lacked variety of flavour. The beef rib at the end was fatty, the accompnaying sauces were far too salty. The sweet was the same, an attempt at adventure turned sadly flat . The ambience was poor, mostly due to the noise level which made conversation difficult. At £70+ perhead we shall not return. Style over substance.
Took my wife for her birthday and took the set sharing menu with the paired wines...it blew us away.
The carrot and sesame seed was sensational. We sat across a corner of the large central marble dining table, which at first I thought was a bit weird, however it was great, so intimate, I shall be insisting on a corner seat from now on. Josh served us, he's got this bang on, our second visit and it will not be our last...well done Angelina!
Very thoughtful, unconventional and innovative Italian and Japanese fusion dishes! However, it is definitely an acquired taste; some of the dishes were more delicious and balanced in flavours than others. Also, it would have been great to have more options to select from in the 5-course meal set.
Overall, it is definitely worth a try for something new and different! Great value for money, beautiful interior and lovely customer service.
Best Restaurant in London. 5 course tasting menu is perfect as is the wine pairing. Hidden tiny bar in back. Impeccable service, lovely dining room, buzzy crowd- pitch perfect experience.
A pleasant surprise in Dalston, once that signifies the continuing elevation of this part of London. An even more pleasant surprise (though we did read a very positive Guardian review) was how wonderful the food was. Wave after wave of delectable flavours and unexpected combinations of flavours. The decor is stylish, and (spoiler alert) there's a bar in the bathroom!
Wonderful wonderful restaurant. Everything was perfect.
The wine pairings and food are so unique, every course looks incredible and keeps you interested throughout the meal. The decor is great. You just go!
Wonderful food served with conviction and attention. Friendly atmosphere. A lovely night out!
It was a really great meal. Food was full of flavour and reasonably priced considering the varied menu. Definitely a hidden gem. They were out of a couple of wines and beers on the lists but the food made up for it!
Rarely leave reviews but just had to. Top notch service and delicious food. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it was such good value for money. Will definitely return.
Amazingly friendly staff!
Delicious Italian/ japanese fusion beautifully presented
I didn’t feel the foods are not worth the money but drink selection was amazing.
VERY good friendly service and food was delicious. Great explanation on the wine pairings. Love the modern decor. Lovely tableware. Good value tasting menu for under £39 Wine pairing £35. Last but not least, beautiful loos with good soap and real handtowels , sweets and feminine amenities!
Every course delicious - highly recommended
Nice-looking, buzzy space in increasingly gentrified Dalston. The food was pleasant enough and competently prepared, but I found the Asian/Italian fusion incoherent, and the laughably tiny portions did not justify the price tag. Maybe
it is better for meat eaters. Many of the set menu dishes turned up together, and if there was a plan I couldn’t figure it out. Focaccia, tempura and a bowl of seaweed, anyone? Not at the same time for me, thanks. On the plus side the wine was good value.
The food was interesting - the chicken main was delicious! And the matcha pasta was great too. The appetisers with seafood were great and refreshing, though would have preferred a prawn tempura rather than kale. Loved the dessert
This is a little gem and should not be overlooked! The asian/italian combination works incredibly well and makes for an interesting AND delicious meal. The wine list is also to die for. The best part is the price (reasonable) and the ambiance (elegant yet understated). A lovely place to celebrate a birthday - thanks for the candles :)
I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was delicious and very unusual. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu which was great as we got to try so many different dishes and it was amazing value at £39 each!
Delicious food and great value, but very noisy! Service could have been a bit more personal. Would recommend!
Very enjoyable evening. They do a fixed taster menu, heavy on shellfish leading into a meat dish and then dessert if you don’t mind the lack of choice (which I don’t) you’re in for excellent flavours and a very well curated menu overall. The drinks took a little time to get to us but when they did they were worth it. Will definitely be going again.
Beautiful restaurant - you feel like you are really treating yourself the moment you walk in. So very chic. A lot of food - but I may have been put off by the beauty of my hot date! (She was so hot). The staff are alos clever, beautiful and extremely helpful. The food was perfect. Could have been staggered a little more maybe to ensure all was hot or cold things were eaten first. But that tiny tiny point aside - best restaurant I have been to in quite some time.
Great fusion cuisine.in a nice environment. Dish of the day price was very good. Hope to go back for the full tasting menu.
Excellent and original food with lovely staff. This was our second visit, as, after the first, I felt I must take my friend.
Fantastic experience - we had the 5 course tasting menu and every dish was top notch! The Japanese and Italian fusion worked really well (something I hadn't come across before), and the place was nicely decked out and the waiters were very knowledgeable and helpful. Given the quality of the food and the cocktails, I was surprised to discover how reasonably priced it was. Get in quick before they jack up the prices!
We had a lovely time and the waiting staff were excellent. The restaurant was pretty much full and yet the 2 waiters who looked after us gave us all the time and attention and were so friendly. Food was D-lish.
We had a fantastic evening at Angelina - brilliant flavours in all courses, and the wine pairing was a great addition. Also, great vegetarian menu!
I’ve been here before and really enjoy the food. The portions are generous, and the vItalian Japanese fusion thing really works in my view. The cocktails are also unusual and excellent. However, this time we went later in the evening and it was much noisier. We also had the misfortune to go on the hottest day of the year and it was pretty uncomfortable.
Hard to get a table but the experience is definitely worth it.
This was our second time there and menu had changed. Still a perfect mix of textures and tastes, my friends and I were all impressed with the refinement of all dishes.
We will come back for more soon!
Great. Great. Great!
Love Angelina. Food is very tasty and surprising, the menu changes every week and the staff is great. We go once a month. Always a pleasure
Food, decor & service were outstanding! Cannot wait to go back!!
Unfortunately I wasn’t won over. The starters and dessert of the 5-course menu were by far the tastiest and most inventive. My favourites being the Fritto Misto, Aranchini, and Baba with Apricots & Wasabi Cream. However the rest of the dishes felt very lacklustre, and frankly quite bland. Not to mention the daily plate of unagi and pasta, which included 3 measly pieces of eel.
I won’t be visiting again, especially at £52pp (for set menu, daily plate & drink)
We had an amazing experience at Angelina tonight.
Food was amazing, very tasty and well presented.
Nice and clean flavours, great ingredients and a very good combination.
Freshly prepared and quality ingredients. Japanese/Italian Fusion works well. Attentive and friendly service.
Good choice of Italian wines.
Japanese-Italian is an interesting food combination. Some of the dishes worked well others were just ok. The staff was very friendly and the prices are quite moderate. Overall, I would say an interesting new thing to try and some good food but didn't blow me away.
Food & wine pairing was amazing!! Great value for a tasting menu and they even put a birthday candle on my husbands cheesecake without me asking :)
It is always a great experience! This time I went for the "primo piatto" only, and finished with a delicious cheesecake. Will be back!
The food is good, interesting, and well presented - the Japanese/Italian fusion is really cool, and we had some things we never would have tried otherwise. However: it's a 5 course set menu so no choices (although they seem to do substitutions for allergies); the kitchen is open and I agree with a different review that it's not a v happy place in there; there's some tables but we were allocated to bar or communal seating (something I try to avoid, so please give the option to choose on opentable); and for a 5 course tasting, they rushed us through in 1h 15m, which made it seem like being fed rather than a nice restaurant (to the extent of clearing while fork was in the air). Overall: worth trying, great food, slightly rough edges.
Interesting concept. More Japanese influence than Italian. Cannot fault the starters. Excellent, first time i’ve Tasted cuttlefish.
The risotto was also excellent with Italian sausage and eel.
The chicken with ‘Sicilian red shrimps’ was just OK. Basically, chicken escalopes with a micro size shrimp.
Desert, was rather lazy. Cheesecake with Morello cherries.
It’s almost impossible to find a good espresso in London and Angelina couldn’t deliver either.
On the whole, I would recommend Angelina and maybe give it one more go, but there are so many more places left to try.
