Wonderful experience from start to finish. Friendly, professional and timely service; incredible, original food; elegant and calming ambiance.
This made for a wonderful birthday lunch and I can’t wait to bring other friends along with me soon.
The service was attentive and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed as usual. But don’t know what happened to their food- I regretted having recommended Swedish dumplings to the birthday boy - the dumplings were overcooked and the whole plate was dry. It was nothing like the one I had previously. I may not return to the restaurant anytime soon...
We have eaten here several times in the past and liked it. 4-star. Have always liked the food and the service and have forgiven the high prices. However last night was poor on service and the food was unremarkable. Probably because it had been left under the hot lamp. It therefore meant that the high prices feel like a rip off. Sort yourselves out. We won’t be returning
Had the pre theatre menu and was great value for £22 for two courses. Bread was complementary unlike a lot of places nowadays and was topped up twice! Great bread too. Two items each to start - all choices really nice and good portion sizes. Herring the star. Mains very good as well. Service very attentive but not intrusive.
We were a bit worried after reading some reviews about the slow service. But everyone was really attentive and helpful during the whole visit, we never wait long for food or get drinks or the water refilled. Balanced amount of chat and friendliness
Poor choice of music! Would prefer no music at all.
Absolutely flawless - our favourite restaurant in London
The food was really exquisite. The ambience was beautiful. It was clear that a lot of attention was given to detail to satisfy the palette and the eye. The service, however, was another story. When we first arrived, we were seated immediately, but it took a long time - maybe 30 minutes - for someone to come by to take our order. The food arrived promptly. Once it arrived, we felt mostly ignored, as no one ever came by to check on us or ask if we needed anything. Once we finished our last plate, the empty plates sat on the table for nearly an hour. At this point in the evening, there was only about 5 occupied tables, and at least 10 staff members on the floor, all of whom ignored us. I had to flag down a waitress to ask if she can bring the bill. She said she's come by with the credit card machine, but she never did. I had to flag down another staff member to beg for the credit card machine, which she finally did bring. Overall, I felt quite neglected by the staff, even though the restaurant was not full and there were plenty of staff on the floor. For this reason only, I would not return to Aquavit.
As a single diner, Aquavit offers me delicious and elegant Scandinavian food combined with efficient and friendly service in a stylish but comfortable contemporary interior. It is situated in a quiet street within easy walking distance of cultural destinations such as the Royal Academy, Burlington House and the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery.
One of my favourites
The lunch 3-course menu was good value and the food was very good except for the black pudding which was not appealing. The room was light and airy but was very quiet for s Saturday Bank Holiday lunch.
The service was very sub-par for a Michelin star restaurant with the wait staff inattentive and uninterested. No explanations to the menu were provided. While the good was good the overall experience would not make me return
I love this restaurant. The food is a joy, looks beautiful and tastes better. Would recommend it highly!
My wife and I had Sunday Lunch there. Great flavour in the food, efficient service, well priced
Excellent authentic dishes prepared perfectly from the finest ingredients. Perfect for Pre-theatre dining.
Amazing food! I will be recommending this restaurant to my friends when they visit London.
Absolutely brilliant. We visited before our Theatre Show on Saturday and the service was quick and efficient. The food was simply divine. I can't stop thinking about it days after.
My 8th time in this restaurant , all goid and always good. The drinks is so good.
We go to the restaurant every time we visit London, at least four times a year.
The butter is not as it used to be, the crab starter and turbot definitely not a michelin star standard . We had recommended the restaurant to friends who went the same day and they were disappointed too.
Service was great
The restaurant was very quiet when we went but I would definitely go back
For me it was a bit of a treat. I planned to have lunch before a theatre matinee and decided to pay a little bit more for a great experience. A friend had been to Aquavit and I was very envious. The decor and ambience are lovely - very stylish and welcoming. Everything is so well designed from the bar area, to the cutlery and crockery, to the loos! The welcome was outstanding and all the staff attentive but unobtrusive. My first course was liver pate and gravlax with the most delicious bread and crispbread; second plate: meatballs with mash, lingonberries and cucumber that reminded me so much of the delicious Gurkesalat my friend's German mother used to make! Raspberry tart to finish. I drank Gron gin - so refreshing; finished off with a filter coffee. The loos were so beautifully finished and I really enjoyed my time at Aquavit.
Had a reservation at 10:30pm, arrived at 10:37 and the kitchen was closed!!?? I mean we were late but cmon...No flexibility!? they let us order only from their appetizers. Almost left but it was late to get in anywhere else. The appetizers were amazing to be fair and our waitress was outstanding.
Stunning restaurant where all aspects meet. The menu is very classic Scandinavian with a modern touch. Taste palette very delicate letting herbs shine.
A humble Michelin star restaurant that is surely worth visiting and eating at. All the dishes we had (starters, main and dessert) were out of this world and commendable.
I would recommend this restaurant any day of the year.
Lovely representation of everything that’s nice about Scandinavian dining - down to earth, refreshing, and cosy.
Nice restaurant with excellent Scandinavian food and excellent choice of Scandinavian aquavit, poor choice of beers.
Outstanding service from enthusiastic and most knowledgeable waitress I have ever met! Despite not having a vegan menu they were able to prepare dishes that worked well...just small note to chefs that vegans do need protein so nuts, seeds etc are great!
Great place for lunch- the smorgasbord options make for a light, affordable but really interesting meal. The service is efficient, the ambience pleasant, and certainly the couple of times I've been it hasn't been too crowded. Great option near some of the worst tourist trap restaurants in London around Leicester Square. Deserves to be better known. Another family member has been in the evening and strongly recommended it for dinner too.
The ambience and service was great. Loved the style and design of the place.
As a Swedish guy I recognized the dishes and thought all were extremely well made. Nice menu options.
There was no wow moment though, so for the price paid I was a bit disappointed. Nothing wrong with the place or quality of food but each dish I got I can cook myself to the same quality. Or get in a restaurant in Sweden, same quality for less than half the price.
For the pedigree of this restaurant and based on prices I would have expected more.
Great decor, very attentive staff and lovely service. Food is delicious, thought through, well presented. Great to celebrate a special moment
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Always a treat.
One of my favourites in London
Waited 15 minutes for a drink when restaurant 1/2 empty. Food good, though cheese was very cold and straight from fridge. Not good for a Michelin restaurant. Yet again , as is common in London restaurants, there was no manager or maitre-dit. Just a stressed sommelier.
Went for dinner and the food was very good! Atmosphere was nice! But the staff were not that attentive so had to wait long to get served and it was not busy at all.
Awesome place. Fantastic food, service and deco!
Fantastic as always. Still love the birds nest.
We had the pre-theatre option. Delicious food served in a friendly and efficient way. Excellent selection of aquavit to go with the food. Would definitely recommend.
Really delicious - the perfect pre-theater meal - lovely service - delectable meal.
A long lunch with a colleague I work with for many many many years and whom I didn’t see for a while.
The ambiance was perfect: even if the restaurant was busy it was never loud or distractingly busy.
The service was wonderfully efficient and never intrusive.
Now with the food: I had to start with a single espresso as I was very tired. It was delicious and I should know as I am Italian. I went for the lunch set menu of Duck - super yummy - and a selection from the Fika trolley. Very good quality/price ratio.
I am most definitely going back.
Brunch menu very misleading. Tehy did no't have any smoked eel eggs bennedict left so we had to choose an alternative dish which said 'salmon' as one of the ingredients. It tuned out to be a salmon flavoured mayo and the waitress failed to flag it to us especially after we asked soft boiled egg to be replaced by poach. There was no bread to soak up the egg or the salmon mayo and texture wise the whole dish did not make sense. Very very disappointing and wouldn't recommend it...
