Food was excellent. Staff was very friendly but except for one woman staff was not wearing mask and this is just not acceptable (I am not even sure it is legal either!). Every single customer came in wearing a mask, I would think it would be normal courtesy for staff to also wear masks and help protect their customers
I’ve been wanting to go to aquavit for a while but was sadly disappointed for a number of reasons.
Drinks. We had some cocktails to begin with and although perfectly fine the servings were tiny and definitely not worth the £15 price tag.
Food. The bread was delicious and so was the roe butter, but it could have had a bit more roe flavour to it. We then shared some starters, the prawn skagen, something that I absolutely love was tasteless, the prawns had absolutely no flavour, and definitely did not remind me of my skagens when I travelled to Copenhagen and Stockholm. The bao bun with langoustine was delicious but it only contained half a tiny langoustine tail each, I understand that restaurants have to save but this was very stingy for £18 for 2 buns with half a tiny tail each. The pate was good!
Then I had the meatballs which were absolutely tasteless. Not sure if the chefs try the food or if they have parosmia due to covid but 80% of the food was bland. So overall underwhelming and overpriced. If the food would’ve been better seasoned it would’ve been worth the price tag but sadly it wasn’t the case.
Service. The service was lovely although once the main courses arrived they seem to have forgotten about us even though the restaurant was as good as empty and had plenty of staff.
As it was my friends birthday they have kindly arranged a little cake which was a nice touch.
Atmosphere. The setting of the restaurant is beautiful and that’s what made it in the end. But I wouldn’t rush back for the food. Which is a shame as I think they have so much potential.
The food was not nice at all, the meatballs were dry and they even charge for tap water. Overpriced with very poor quality.
Average is the best word to describe the meal. We had lunch here and wasn’t terribly impressed. Think you could find better for the same price elsewhere.
Brilliant night, beautiful food
The food and the interior were amazing! Great seafood selection
Really nice meal at Aquavit - the food is good; probably correctly just below Michelin star level but still of a high standard and interesting / a bit different from the usual. Really nice ambience in the restaurant and very comfortable, with great service. An ideal place to come with friends for dinner!
Upon arrival the staff were chatting and so had to wait for them to stop and notice us before then taken to table. Had to wait over 15 minutes to order food, even though restaurant was far from busy. Ordered cocktails first and then a bread starter and two mains and sides. Cocktails did not arrive until main was served and both were exceptionally unpleasant - the poison heart akin to a bar of soap. Main meals of ox cheek and halibut were both cold upon (slow) arrival - ox cheek was dry and rubbery. Halibut fine but clams on plate inedible. Side of red cabbage was good but truffle mashed potato disappointing as couldn’t taste the truffle. I had hoped to have the chocolate cake for dessert but after such a disappointing meal I couldn’t risk it and got out as quickly as possible. Pricing was shocking given the quality.
Much more limited menu than I recall when I went several times for lunch and for dinner two years ago. Reading the menu on phone was tedious due to tiny font which needed to be expanded constantly. Staff reluctantly brought us an iPad to read it. Extremely slow service although there were several staff in view and the restaurant was almost empty: we had been there almost 50 minutes before our food arrived. One of the starters consisted of possibly two radishes (but it may have been only one). The music level was not deafening but despite the lack of other guests it combined with the hard surfaces in some way which made it surprisingly difficult to hear my companion. All in all, I wished throughout that I was somewhere else. Had a sandwich as soon as I got home.
The worst service I have ever experienced, and sub-par, overpriced food. Zero ambience. Not good at all.
This is a lovely space to eat in. Simple decor, lots of wood, high ceilings and big windows on a quiet street. The menu leans towards fish, but there are other option. For example, I had a superb duck pâté. My main course was a stone bass with accompaniment; perfectly cooked and presented. The desserts are also rather fine: I had a Swedish cheesecake and my partner an Arctic Birds Nest (see photo). Gorgeous to look at and eat. Overall, a well above average experience.
We went for a pre-theatre meal. The restaurant wasn’t busy but still had to battle with the ridiculous code reader (which failed to work) and then wait for paper menus. At no time we’re we asked if we wanted drinks. Once we had the ordering going things became easier. The food when it came was quite good but very very small portions.
Overall it was for us an exceedingly expensive experience which we won’t be repeating.
Absolutely perfect! Service is excellent, we got extraordinary tastiest dishes and totally recommend to everyone. The whole dinner has been on the highest level with no hurry or noise. You feel like an honoured and welcomed guest what is the highest act to respect your guests. If I could I’d give 10 stars! One of the most favourite in London :)
Fantastic greeting from the front desk but after that the service became irritating. Constant nagging, lacking EQ and thoughtless but not pushy.
The food was excellent, far from cheap but very tasty and interesting. The wine list could do with a few more wines, especially red, in the midpriced bracket.
Well worth a visit though.
Superbly cooked Scandi food in chic and relaxing surroundings. Great location just a short hop from Leiceseter Square.
Loved the food and service.
The restaurant is nicely fitted out, but not very full. Service was excellent- very friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the food was under seasoned throughout and so many dishes were rather bland which was a pity.
Had a great time at Aquavit. Food was wonderful and delicious especially the Artic birds nest. I would highly recommend this this restaurant.
The staff gave us a lovely table indoors where we could sit very comfortably near the window and with our quiet dog away from others. The food and service were excellent as always and they even brought out a classy little dessert with the Danish flag for my partner’s birthday. Class act!
Staff were attentive, food was of good quality. Would prefer a meat alternative on the starter. There was plenty of fish and also a vegan option but no meat
One of the best restaurants in London. Superb food, good wine, lovely staff, great atmosphere.
What’s all the fuss about , I thought it was sterile and a bit pointless- even for a business meal it lacks pizzazz
Shame because obviously people have great pride in its menu and design - but it was just a bit boring
Portions were too small, the restaurant was very very cold
I loved this place, amazing restaurant with very knowledgeable & friendly staff. The perfect blend of extremely posh & yet very welcoming. If only all were like this!
If you like the sound of the menu or want to try something different I would highly recommend you try it out A++
1* Michelin that didn’t understood what hospitality is, what a shame.
We arrived at 8pm, reception don’t propose us to take your coats which I found very bizarre in a Michelin restaurant.
Seat down and figure out by ourself that we needed to check the menu online, after waiting 20mn for someone to take our order no recommendations were made, we received our starter in a decent timing but we wait 45mn for our main after asking twice what was happening.
To end this very poor experience we receive our mains at 9:48pm and 4mn after the waiter came to us to ask if we wanted to order anything else as the we’re going to close their kitchen due to governmental rules.
I work in hospitality as a GM and I can guarantee that this is the worst experience that I have in a Michelin restaurant not worth the money spend at all.
Would never comeback and make sure to never recommend your restaurant.
Aquavit London is exceptional Scandi food, if you have room for dessert try the Arctic birds nest (check the name i may have it wrong) it is amazing
Really poor, I had been recommended this as a great spot for lunch with the hustle and bustle and really top quality food and service. We had the set menu, which was maybe a mistake, but the cooking was sub par and the service cold and stilted. Shame to see a once rebound restaurant give up like this.
Amazing spot for a date. Delicious food, amazing service and good prices. Would definitely recommend!
Maybe the glass of wine portions are too small…
Memorable starters, but mains at a lower level of cooking. Arctic char needed a lift, not really worth eating.
Outstanding fine dining experience. Don't miss the smoked eel, the duck and the trout. Stunning dining room. Very good service by Celina. Cannot recommend enough.
The Scandi style food is amazing.
We sat outside as the weather was unusually warm. At some point the attention level by staff dropped (maybe it started to be busier inside) but they picked up later and even presented a thoughtful and complimentary birthday cake plate at the end.
Overall, a really nice experience and I would try again and see how they fare next time.
Our night out was a feast. We order the mackerel, the tartar and the eel as starters, and had the strip loin, the duck and the cod as mains. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection. The Artic Nest is one of the best desserts I've had, and we tried one other with vegetables to be adventurous and it was delicious.
However, service is sloppy. We had to ask to see the menu, to get drinks, to place our order, to get bread, to order wine.
Track and trace in place and hand sanitiser available upon arrival.
Me encantó. Staff, food, presentation, portion, it has everything. Se los mega recomiendo.
Just an overall great experience! We really enjoyed our time.
Stylish restaurant, modern but inviting. Service very good, upmarket experience overall. Food was good, rather Scandy, as you would expect. Poached cod had a lovely texture- very soft, good vegetables. Celeriac soup with truffles rich and flavourful. Cod could have been a bit more vibrant overall perhaps but I will go back.
I would recommend this restuarant for a premium lunch. It is located on a discreet side street in central london near Piccadilly Circus. The front of house staff are welcoming and professional. Lunch is served promptly at your table, however this is not the place for a quick 30 minute lunch it is a place to enjoy your lunch experience either alone, with guests or colleagues. It should be also noted that there are a small number of outside tables and a separate small bar indoors, so if you are after a tea/coffee in a busy central London location this is a nice place.
Eating at Aquavit was a very nice Swedish experience. The service was great, the food delicious. A good wine list.
Great original food and excellent service. Extremely helpful waitress who explained everything and found gluten free options. Nothing was too much trouble. Nice relaxed quiet ambience if a little sterile.
