I cannot give enough compliments to this restaurant, it goes beyond the regular Michelin 1 star experience and would 100% recommend it to anyone in London.
First of all it is wonderful to have a restaurant specialised in Nordic food in London! Having a craving for Nordic cuisine, would come back again and again... the herring is full of flavour, presented beautifully with foam. The carrot caraway is perfectly seasoned, the blood pudding and Vension tartare pairs really well with the lingonberry, a must try.
This might be weird but I must comment on the bread. They must contain some sort of cumin or spices? They taste really good and goes well with the butter that contains cod roe. The chef did a good job!
Last but not least the service is wonderful, very attentive staff, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable!
Great food n snaps n excellent service. Bird nest desert looked toooooo beautiful to eat!!!!....and tasted great.
Great lunch. Delicious food, skillfully executed and immaculately presented. Loved the ambiance and the natural light.
Amazing place to go for a luxurious lunch !
They didn't have the two tings on the menu we were keen to order - Octopus and the scallops.
The food we did order was quick to come out and tasted fine but didn't blow us away.
The service was impeccable and the waitress was great however and very apologetic for the menu cancellations.
A very lovely business lunch. Beautifully fresh and well presented food and pleasant service. I was fairly busy but we did not feel crowded and were able to speak comofrtably. Highly recommended for lunch - especially te gravadlax and the trout.
Once again a warm welcome at Aquavit in London's St James's; herring starters and Duck, Turbot and Trout main dishes. The duck was pronounced excellent, the trout was reliably delicious but the member of our party who'd chosen the turbot found it undercooked - which was corrected.
The décor is such that a meal at a busier time (we were early to mid - evening) would possibly be in a noisy environment, though the tables are well separated
We booked for the weekend brunch which, in my opinion, was a fantastic deal. Each dish was cooked to perfection. We both had the cod for mains which was deliciously served with charred leaks and brown shrimp, all of which complimented each other.
Outstanding experience for food lovers. One of the best restaurants we have been
Very nice restaurant with a gorgeous interior - really liked the vibe of it. The noise level was no problem, and the food was amazing. The meatballs are a must-try! The only thing I would point out was the waitress, she was a bit 'messy' in her appearance; dirty apron, side pony tail - not what I expect when visiting a Michelin restaurant. But really nice visit and would definitely come again.
One of my favourite meals for a long time, amazing flavours and professional but friendly staff. Had a lovely evening
Beautiful food and overall experience. The staff was unbelievably attentive and the food sublime. We had theater tickets and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Thank you!
Food is always delicious but service seems slow even when the restaurant isn’t particularly busy.
Overall, I enjoyed the dining experience. The atmosphere is nice, staff are friendly and the menu is quite interesting with a few options of Scandinavian mains. Me and my friend ordered the meatball and Swedish dumplings. The food is slightly on the oily side. Although the portion is not big (not small too), we were not able to finish our plates.
I would love to come back again. It's a great place to meet up and chat with friends. The experience would have been perfect if the food are less oily - so that we could try the desserts as well!
I would definitely recommend Aquavit! The environment was very elegant, but quite cozy at the same time. The staff was really friendly. There was a very good sommelier as well and when we decided what we wanted to eat, he immediately came and found us the perfect wines for our dishes - both of them were great choices! The food was amazing!!! So many flavours. I ordered the Swedish meatballs (best ones I have ever tried) and my boyfriend had the duck, which he really enjoyed. Also in the end we had a dessert (I think it's called Chokladbollar) and was very tasty as well. In the end they had a surprise for us. They brought us a plate with ice-cream and fruits and they had written "Happy anniversary" with chocolate syrup. Overall, I was really pleased with our whole visit. 10/10!!!
Amazing pre theatre lunch at Aquavit. From start to finish, the food was exceptional, presented beautifully. I think angels cooked my cod... divine.
Not quite the Michelin experience I am used to. The food was very good and a couple of dishes outstanding. The wine was also very good but typically pricey. Normally when I am seeking assistance on wine selection I expect the sommelier to help, but he was ”busy” so I got the info third hand. Turns out he was tasting wines with a potential supplier sat in the restaurant. Upside was I actually got a taste, so almost redeemed. But not the level of service I expect for the money. Possibly a place to lunch- we dined off the a la carte menu, but doubtful if I would go for dinner. The ambience is a bit too casual “modern” for my liking, But took Jay Rayner’s advice and had a selection of smorgasbord for starters, which proved a very good decision. Overall we enjoyed it but if the Library at Sketch had been open we would have gone there. Overall “ not bad” some excellent flavours and cooking.
Aquavit, in St. James's, disappointed only in that our favourite whole baked trout was unavailable; this did however enable us to try the turbot, which was marvellous. Quality comes at a price, however, and we'll save this one for special occasions. A niggle - the stylish cutlery - better to admire than to use!
The food was good.
The service wasn’t. it was pretty empty at the time in the afternoon we arrived so there was plenty of chance for great attention and plenty of staff on for the 5 tables that were seated in there. There wasn’t much attention though. The staff were very concerned about people coming in to use the bathroom and the need to set up for the evening service. It was sad as the food was good and we were in good spirits from being on the buzzing streets. We sat a good 20 minutes after all the food had been eaten with empty water glasses and a messy table before I got up to intercept one of the staff that had been avoiding all eye contact to ask for the bill. It should have been a better experience.
Had lunch there and found the menu at £35 to be really good value which included 2 smorgåsbord starters, main and dessert. Having Nordic roots I found the cooking well executed. The gravadlax flavour and texture was well balanced and paired well with their dill mustard sauce (with their excellent seeded crispbread). The Matjes herring also was an explosion of flavour; salty, sweet and sour. The mains (i took cod) were decent and can’t go far wrong with blueberry pancakes for dessert. All in all a good experience and will visit for dinner next time in London.
Amazing value pre-theatre menu. Two courses of unbelievably good food for £22. Would highly recommend
Absolutely perfect in every way. The food was innovative and tasty, the service was impeccable — no hovering but there when you needed it— and the wine list had good selections at every price point. Best dinner we have had in a very long time. Highly recommend.
Wonderful venue - really loved the interior decor and elegant, yet very relaxed atmosphere. Food was excellent, the fish is flawlessly prepared, meat dishes were perfectly cooked and good sized portions - the Jansson's Temptation potato side dish was out of this world. Great that starters come with spirit pairings (the dill aquavit in particular) and the refreshing Grog cocktails with cucumber were perfect on a hot day. Brought my parents to celebrate my mum's birthday - they're usually sceptical about Michelin star places but they loved it and are still talking about it!
You can always count on high quality food here. The bread and butter is a highlight and the waitresses are very attentive and always make sure to refill your water bread basket. The weekend brunch menu is good value for money. Try the gravalax in starter and the duck in main. They are my favorites. But even something as mundane as Swedish meatballs are surprisingly tasty. Cocktails are well executed too. Ambiance is relaxing and not too pretentious.
Probably one of the best places for Scandinavian food and drink in London. Very friendly staff.
Beautiful and delicious food and exceptional service.
Amazing service, very nice staff...
The venue is very well designed, the vibe is quite chill...
Super service and super food
We had a wonderful time for my partners birthday , the staff were friendly and the food was fantastic! We would definitely come back x
Nice restaurant. Great staff. Good food
The food was great and we think it is a really pretty room with an appealing menu. The wine is too expensive- need an option or two at the £40-45 level. Also the service was really patchy. The servers themselves were lovely but they were never around when you needed them. We were frequently out of water, bread, etc.
Too many service mistakes, first courses were good, mains dissapointing. Long waiting, mains didnt come out together, they had to re-make one of them, forgot our dessert, billed us twice for the fish... tables very close together, very loud. On the positive - great nordic alcohol & good smorgsbord. We were farely compensated for the poor experience in the final bill.
It’s was our 6th visit and let me tell you. Consistency prevails. Amazing food amazing staff.
Aquavit never disappoints.
Best Michelin star restaurant for value and quality.
We will be back again soon!
I was visiting London from Canada with my parents and had dinner here our first night. It is one of the most charming places I’ve ever eaten in. The ambiance was perfect for a night in the theatre district and a special trip with my parents. The food was superb and our waitress, Marta, was such a delight and gave us exceptional food recommendations that were to die for. I highly recommend trying this place if you’re looking for an in-depth Scandinavian experience!
We had a great time, great service. Calm, so we could enjoy conversation. The food was exiting and plenty, the wine was delicious.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Friendly, professional and timely service; incredible, original food; elegant and calming ambiance.
This made for a wonderful birthday lunch and I can’t wait to bring other friends along with me soon.
The service was attentive and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed as usual. But don’t know what happened to their food- I regretted having recommended Swedish dumplings to the birthday boy - the dumplings were overcooked and the whole plate was dry. It was nothing like the one I had previously. I may not return to the restaurant anytime soon...
We have eaten here several times in the past and liked it. 4-star. Have always liked the food and the service and have forgiven the high prices. However last night was poor on service and the food was unremarkable. Probably because it had been left under the hot lamp. It therefore meant that the high prices feel like a rip off. Sort yourselves out. We won’t be returning
Had the pre theatre menu and was great value for £22 for two courses. Bread was complementary unlike a lot of places nowadays and was topped up twice! Great bread too. Two items each to start - all choices really nice and good portion sizes. Herring the star. Mains very good as well. Service very attentive but not intrusive.
