Nice meal although a tiny piece of bread with both our starters. Steak was cooked correctly, rare, but on a cold plate so was a little cool. Some vegetables would have been nice with the pork, just had dauphinois. Pudding was tasty. Nice bake wall tart and sticky toffee was good, glad we asked for cream as sticky toffee very rich.
I booked this visit as a birthday treat for my husband because the menu really appealed ... what a disappointment! The room used was small and so we were right on top of other diners (only 3 other tables in use) meaning that conversation felt quite uncomfortable. The langoustine and saffron starter had one langoustine which yielded a very small tail - there was no other langoustine meat within the rice. The chicken parfait was grainy and accompanied by seriously rock hard 'toasted croutes' and damp, soggy brioche. My husband never leaves food ... he ate less than half of this. The lamb main was average, the short rib of beef was lacking any flavour and vegetables were served nearly 10 minutes after the meat when 'the chef noticed they were still sitting there'. We were given a dessert menu and thought that perhaps cheese would be a good idea (can't do to much to cheese can you?) but we'll never know ... after waiting 20 minutes to place an order we gave up and decided to cut our losses. Gutted - not the most memorable birthday meal! :(
The walnut and goats cheese starter was superb. All four at our table were extremely happy with their meal.
Loved the relaxing atmosphere. The food was excellent, beyond our expectations and the staff were very helpful. We would love to go back!
Very limited menu with little choice. All four in part had to opt for dish that carried surcharge. Extras (bread) were expensive. Difficulty in booking at reasonable time slots. Did not turn out to be a bargain with the special offer. Would not return or recommend.
It was our wedding anniversary. We arrived and were placed in a room on our room with no ambience. We ordered drinks and it took 35 minutes to get them. That was only after getting up and asking someone if I can have a gluten free menu and our drinks. We were then told they didn’t have the Petit Chablis. We then asked for a Malbec reserve at £39.50. We then received the wine after 10 min. It was not the Malbec ordered, so the wrong bottle and it only costs £9.50 at normal retail. It was placed on the table, unscrewed and was not even opened or checked whether it was correct. The waitress then just walked away. We waited another five minutes to check the wine and order but no-one came back. We then went to reception, explained the issue of the poor service and we then left. Shame, I was excited about what I read on the place. Reception were very understanding and apologetic. I really appreciated that.
Good food and good prices.
Service good, but uneven.
You also can dine in the bar/lounge
Worth a visit
Relaxing place to stay
3 course meal for £18 Good value
I took a colleague to have a business lunch having booked online. We were left for 45mintes in the bar, because the waitress didn't come over and ask if we were waiting to eat; I'd seen her walk around confused a couple of times as though she was looking for something but hadn't come over. Her response when I finally approached her was "the booking didn't say anything" which tells me there is a poor discord between portal capture and what the restaurant can use to find customers.
In terms of food, luckily my colleague's steak was well cooked and he enjoyed it but looking at the plate it was a very simple Steak +Frites on the plate - for the venue I would have expected something more of a garnish, possibly some nice field mushrooms and the option of a sauce.
My dish was very poor i.e. overcooked chicken breast sat on a bed of vegetables, spaghetti and a sweet and sour sauce that tasted like an "out of the jar experience". It felt like I was eating a 5 minute, one pot meal thrown together. I didn't get any fresh made taste e.g. chilli used, other herbs etc. the spaghetti was nicely done ie al dente but I wouldn't return there again.
Despite there being 2 weddings on, the waiting staff (a gentleman) was very attentive & they remembered our glasses of champagne which I had asked for on the booking (as it was our anniversary) The food was to die for & the wine we chose was a really lovely bottle.
Poor food quality. Had an issue with steak being over cooked and luke warm food. Don’t get a lot for your money and not a very comfortable experience
Food took over an hour from ordering and steak inedible. Staff absent for long periods and inattentive.
We booked to eat in the Arboreum however this wasn’t available owing to a function and a wedding taking place, surprised they didn’t know about the wedding beforehand.
In the room they put us in a child was crawling about playing with his motor car and other children were walking in and out as well as adults from the wedding party.
Staff were obviously busy but didn’t seem to ask the children to leave, they also didn’t clear the dinner pots when coffee was being served.
Food was fine but served by staff that were obviously under pressure.
Car park needs some extra lighting.
Food was amazing and the price were very good. Would love to come back and eat hete again
For the lovers of traditional English restaurants - a real gem. The menu didn't offer a great variety, but the food was very tasty. We had the opportunity to be seated in the Marbury Suite, which has only one table and thus offers a homely feel. It was an excellent experience overall.
Nice atmosphere food good but not plentiful. Service excellent. Lovely location peaceful and quiet. We were in a different room not the arboretum but it was very nice with lovely views of the gardens and pond
Afternoon tea on a very quiet Thursday. Great as we could sit in the gardens.
A small hotel restaurant with somewhat dark decor and shared with a few other quiet couples lacks atmosphere. The food was pleasant but the servers were inattentive and created unnecessary anxiety about having to wait too long between courses.
We stopped over for an early morning flight and had a relaxing start to our holiday. The food was excellent, service prompt and courteous, the setting was divine.
Food and service was excellent only down side was the couple next to us that were moaning about the portion sizes but as it says a la carter I really don't know what she was moaning about and yes you can get a cheesecake from Asda for a pound but not tasting like that you can't, anyway lovely place lovely food
