Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant
Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant provides the spectacular setting for Oxford's first and only rooftop restaurant.
We have a fantastic fresh menu taking the food back to a good, hearty British feel with a European twist.
Ingredients are fresh and seasonal and we use many local Oxfordshire suppliers to bring the best quality to you.
Super efficient and polite waitresses, food was delivered fast and it was tasty. Good service, I would recommend.
My two guests thought their food was delicious. The only gripe I have was that the mash with the chicken was slightly runny in texture!
Service and ambience excellent. At times noise levels were high which did not help table conversation.
Very much enjoyed lunch. Friendly staff and a nice ambience.
Beautiful location with great views. Good choice on menu. Nice staff.
Super setting for some well presented and tasty food. Service was fab. Not too busy. Good menu.
We were lucky to be eating in the week after the exhibition closed so that it was relatively peaceful. The service was friendly and helpful as usual.
It was a bit surprising that there was no ice cream for one of the desserts
Nice atmosphere, relaxed and informal. The restaurant is light airy, the tables are well arranged. The menu is good, Sunday roast was excellent good quality ingredients cooked perfectly.
I had lunch here in November and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This time was disappointing.
Really nice dining room, very good service and small but good choice of food.
Interesting menu which arrived promptly. Waiter had limited knowledge of drinks.
View over the rooftops was spectacular and wind made the pigeons flight extraordinary.
ideal place for lunch after attending an exhibition
Nice place to eat after an exhibition. Light and airy, we had good service and the food was fine - nothing very special but okay for lunch
Pleasant dining. I don't want to write a review. It should not be compulsory.
We had another good meal there. My wife choose to have a nibbles plate as well as 3 courses. Could thing we she had a poly bag in handbag so we could take away what we failed to finish.
Our lunch was a very pleasant experience. The food was delicious and the ambience was lively and interesting. The service staff could have been more smiley and friendly, but they were prompt. The roast beef was mouthwatering. A unique Oxford expérience!
It was our 10th anniversary. We arrived at 8:30 pm late because we went to the Museum entrance and because we had a son of 2 years old and it took a little bit longer for him to go to sleep. There was just another couple in the restaurant that were finishing their dinner. The waiter was quite rude and, literally, "told us off" because we arrived 20 min late. He told us that we needed to order straight away because the kitchen were going to close soon. We sat down, we looked at the menu and we ordered. I told him that we have arrived 15 min late not 20 min. He kept discussing about the issue saying that, among other things, we'll need to leave at 9:30 and then I just simply said that fair enough. I could see that the conversation was going nowhere and I wanted to enjoy my 10th anniversary with my wife. We finally finish to eat around 9:15 and as it was very quiet in the restaurant (we were the only ones!) we left.
To sum up, the dinner was ok (because we wanted to have a good time) but not special as I wanted to be (that is the reason why I booked a table in the Ahmolean restaurant and that is why I went the day before that everything was ok). It would be nice if the ashmolean can compesate us for this unfortunate event.
Not the best ambience for dinner as it was so quiet on the night we attended. I would recommend it is tried for afternoon tea or lunch. Food was quite good - rather unusual flavour combinations.
Not worth the money. Just a normal cream tea nothing special at all. Advertised as “ can see the whole of oxford from rooftop views” is hardly true.
The food was exceptional and the staff very friendly and accommodating what eat
there again without any issues
Lovely location and ambiance food was good and service meant you didn’t feel rushed.
Found it quite noisy - our vegetables were very undercooked and felt it was a little over priced
Service wasn’t brilliant either
As always, it was a delight to eat at the Ashmolean. The setting is unparalleled and the cheerful service and good food lives up to that location.
We found the staff quite tired and irritated. I assumed it was after a busy lunch but no excuse. I won't bother again
The Rooftop Restaurant is a beautiful venue right in the middle of Oxford and should be the perfect idea for a lovely lunch after seeing an exhibition. This time, it was part of a Christmas present. We do like coming to the restaurant, being tempted every time by the beautiful location. However, on more than one occasion the food has been average at best, definitely nothing special for the price. That was unfortunately also the case on our recent visit on 27 December. Not bad but .... ! What we really have been disappointed with on numerous occasions, however, is the service. Often slow, this time we had to wait about 15 minutes to even be asked if we wanted a bottle of water. Some waiting staff are much friendlier/more attentive than others - room for improvement there in general. We also had to wait a long time to pay once we had asked for the bill. We completely understand that the staff are busy and are working extremely hard but as a customer you expect very good service in a restaurant like this. So, whilst we still ticked "yes" for recommendation, we probably would also give our friends some warnings before their visit and, personally, we might not be tempted to come again so soon.
Good place for lunch or tea. but not for breakfast.
Good food. Lovely, friendly and efficient staff. Great space.
The sandwiches were OK. The cream for the cream tea was poor: dry and tasteless - nothing like the cream that one gets in Devon and Cornwall, in short a travesty of a cream tea. A shame because the scones were good. The cakes were a disappointment. At first only two small pieces of one sort and then, in response to a complaint, two more of the same sort added!
Always a nice calm place to eat in the run up to Christmas and the service is friendly and quick.
Average to mediocre the food, culminating in a disastrous affogato -- supposedly vanilla ice-cream with boiling hot espresso coffee poured over at the table -- here served as a small dollop of ice-cream swimming in a too large cup of tepid, almost stone cold, milky coffee. The wine was OK, not overpriced, the service slapdash in a restaurant not even remotely crowded. Very disappointing given the location, which is superb.
Happy experience after visiting Pompeii exhibition. Will visit again.
The food was good and the service quite quick considering the restaurant was full. Beautiful room with views across Oxford , although not quite as advertised. The waiting staff were a bit overstretched (and dressed informally) which resulted in a bit of a delay over payment. Very good choice for a good meal in lovely surroundings and informal and casual atmosphere
Very disappointing menu . Two options on the children’s menu but only one available which was not at all nice so most was left. The first choice arrived half way through the meal as they had found some in the kitchen. The adult dish was ok but not at all memorable . Result a messy experience. The waiter was very helpful and sorry for such a poor meal . No we won’t be returning to the Ashmolean for food in the future.
I booked for afternoon tea as a present for my Dads 70th. The booking was made back in September as we knew it would be busy around Xmas. We booked for 4.15pm, however on the day we were called to say they had to change our time to 3.45 as they had agreed a large booking after us. Not impressed. We booked a time and I expect them to stick to it. Setting was nice, afternoon tea was nice but nothing special.
Wonderful service and great food all 5 of us will go again
The table & ambience were good. Waitress was polite but very busy. We had to wait a long time- she kept coming to apologise. The wrong wine was served- this was replaced. My main meal- lentil salad was poor, just little gem leaves round edge of plate with a pile of lentils in the centre. Maybe a couple of tomatoes & a few slices of onion. No dressing at all- none was offered. It was extremely bland, though the small chicken piece was nice. Desserts were very good. When the bill came I had been charged the incorrect price for my wine which was £2 more. The waitress was embarrassed & we had coffee free of charge & the wine charge was taken off the bill.
All in all a mixed experience but not the fault of the waiting staff.
Great location and attentive staff. The set meal is a good value option. 'Hope to eat there again!
Poorly cooked gnocchi. Overcharged us in the first bill (luckily I spotted it). Won't return.
Sunday 8th of Nov. 2019 lunch at 13.30 pm
Great Sunday roast, good food, good service, nice location. Shhh, don’t tell everyone :-)
Reception good; noise level initially quite high; service slow and we felt that, in terms of prompt attention. we were being discriminated against as older generation; food quality acceptable ; moderate value for money.
The main course special was very good value for money. We had booked a table and were seated by the entrance. This wasn't too bad until a small group of the restaurant company managers decided to have a conversation close to us, with little consideration for the diners around them. Eventually I asked them to move elsewhere to continue their business discussion - not the greatest advert for any company that would hopefully aim to put their customers first.
Yes, it's a rooftop restaurant, but not worth the visit for the views - I'd recommend any of the church or college towers for views.
