The ASK Italian restaurant in Northampton occupies a privileged, sought-after spot. We’re in a charming old building just off the High Street and directly opposite the magnificent Northampton Guildhall. Our private rooms upstairs are available for wedding reception hire and all sorts of exclusive parties. Here in Northampton’s Cultural Quarter, we think it’s important that your food has heritage too. We serve classic and modern Italian food prepared with passion and flavoured with fresh produce and ingredients sourced from Italy. Pop in for a coffee or a light lunch to break up an afternoon’s shopping, watch the street scene unfold over bread and nibbles in our al fresco dining area, or arrange a family get-together, Italian-style, before heading to the Royal & Derngate Theatre, NN Contemporary Art Space or an altogether more raucous evening at NBs nightclub. Everything you need is within a hundred metres of some of the best Italian food you’ll taste.

We both come here before going to the Derngate because we know service is good and we can leave on time. But, the food is absolutely the best reason to come here. Very authentic Italian food, beautifullly presented as well. We will keep returning here.

My son asked me to book somewhere for a meal on Mothering Sunday, and at fairly short notice I managed to make a Sunday lunchtime booking via Open Table. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't seem to have any record of the booking, but they had space so the matter was dealt with promptly and efficiently and we were quickly shown to a table. The menu offered a good choice - something for everybody (they actually failed to alert us to the special set-price Mother's Day menu). We shared two starters, and all had mains and dessert, all of which were good. Service of both drinks and food was attentive and courteous without being too pushy.
Our only grouse remains the one that has deterred us from returning to this restaurant for some time; the hard wooden chairs! While there are padded banquettes on one side of some tables there didn't appear to be any with four padded seats, more appropriate to people of a certain age, and no cushions appeared to be available when I asked. Other Ask restaurants we've dined at didn't appear to have this problem, so I hope that this will be noted by Ask Northampton. It's a shame that an otherwise pleasurable experience was affected by this.

Despite showing them the 3 reminders of my reservation the staff insisted that i did not have a reservation. Needed to get served reasonably quickly due to theatre trip it took 20 minutes before order was taken and another 25 for the food to arrive. That said the food was great!
