We had some problems at the beginning with sitting, but then we get a private room upstairs for seven people. We weren't expecting the DJ on the first floor on Saturday at 3 pm. So we were pleased to get the private room with a fantastic vibe and atmosphere.
We also didn't expect brunch menu on Saturday afternoon, which was extremely limited and we get upset because there were no French courses at all...
Even though food disappointed us, the atmosphere was wonderful.

One more thing to give a credit for, one person at the restaurant unexpectedly even for himself experiences severe allergy symptoms, the manager acted professionally and quick. Before the ambulance arrived he kept checking on him.

An ambulance arrived in 5 minutes and the guest received required treatment. Hope that he is okay

Summary: excellent location, beautiful restaurant, delicious food, small portion sizes, staff do not pay much attention to customers and servers seem to lack training.
The restaurant is very attractive and centrally located opposite Victoria underground station, and next to the Victoria Palace Theatre. Staff were not necessarily rude, just seemed too busy to bother with anything other than delivering food to tables. When searching for my party I was told to 'look around' and discovered on my own that there was an upstairs. When I reached upstairs and continued my search I was met with a gruff young man who told me 'go ask at reception'. Once seated, the server seemed polite but very incompetent, didn't know the menu and gave incorrect information. When we did order, the food and drinks arrived very promptly and the taste of the dishes was delicious. However please note, the menu is al a carte and mains portion sizes are small so you will need to order starters and side dishes. When I booked the table, I was offered a 20% discount which helped make it good value for money.

Aster is a lovely restaurant. Very nicely decorated and with friendly staff. The fusion of Nordic and french cuisines REALLY works. Incredibly tasty food for relatively inexpensive, try the tasting menu! Particularly before going to the theatre.

Great if you are going to see Hamilton as it is right next to the theatre, good food and wine and good pre-theatre menu.

The food was good but the service was slow. We weren't in a rush so that didn't matter on this occasion.

The food came very quickly once ordered however it was difficult to attract the attention of anyone working there (when we did they were very friendly). We were left alone for most of the evening, the staff definitely could've been more attentive.

I was really disappointed by my evening at Aster.

I ordered the Grilled Bream which arrived raw. I had to have it sent back to get cooked through. This meant that my friend was almost done eating once my food arrived. No compensation was provided....

The ambiance was also quite sad as the restaurant was almost empty (keeping in mind that it was a Friday night....=

On a positive note, the waiters were very friendly

Excellent business lunch at Aster from the Evening Standard menu £20. Cured salmon starter fresh and delicious as was the peas hummus with pickles. Confit duck just right but the cold slaw over creamy. Gnocchi excellent. Lovely venue

We ate here before watching Hamilton. The pre-theatre menu was very reasonably priced and served promptly. I enjoyed each course, but the duck in particular was lovely. Our waitress was very friendly and the setting was also nicer than I would have expected with such reasonable pricing. I would return!

Very spotty service. Menu and service have changed completely since they opened. When they first opened, Aster was all about Scandi food and the Finnish chef's touches were all over the menu. Service was sophisticated and polished. They've turned it into a very typical brasserie experience, albeit same beautiful interiors, but almost nothing of its Scandi heritage on the menu anymore - very British bistro, like The Ivy, Delaunay, etc. Service was very patchy and no one knows the provenance of the food, which is odd for D&D. Not a bad place, but certainly not what it once was.

Very good tasty meal. Very good service. Perhaps larger portions to get better value for money but prices were not too expensive. Very nice relaxed atmosphere. Had a 1st floor window table for two with a good view of Victoria Street. Will definitely be visiting again.

We had the 3 course pre-theatre menu and all I can say is WOW! The food did not disappoint, all presented well and the flavours were just stunning.

The rye bread was amazing and reminded me of when I used to live in Finland!

None of use left feeling hungry and I can say with great certainty that I will be back to try out more of the menu!

We booked the bottomless brunch for a friend’s birthday and had the loveliest time - we were given a great table by the window, menu choices were varied and the food itself was amazing. Waitresses were so lovely and attentive throughout, we never had to ask for anything it was really lovely. Would definitely recommend!

Was searching for a good value pre-theatre menu, and thought Aster would fit the bill. I regularly dine out for pre-theatre menus, and have to say.. there are far better value places, with better quality food and better tasting. There's nothing particularly wrong with Aster ...except perhaps, the food is bland, portions are very small compared to other restaurants. However, there's nothing especially memorable about Aster either. Service met the standards of a modern French restaurant, but if comparing food choices... they're really unmemorable. There was just no WOW effect - everything we tasted was just.. blah. Presentation was top notch, beautifully plated. But taste wise, it was disappointing. Dessert was the biggest disappointment of all..served on a small plate, not much decoration - it could have been something served at a casual diner. The fact that dessert could have been its saving grace, cancelling the effects of the previous bland courses - go with a big bang. Instead, it was like the final nail in the coffin, sealing the fate of the restaurant. We won't be coming back, and I can't honestly in good conscience recommend this place to my friends.

That said, if you need to find a spot to dine near the theatre, and you want ambience, then Aster might fit the bill. Just don't expect to be wowed by the food.

There’s a lot to like about the venue and food. Light and subtle flavours and very fresh ingredients impress a lot.

Two things I’d like to improve:
- some of the portions are unnecessarily small for the price. A few extra slices of herring on the starter plate would be great (for example)
- the deconstruction idea didn’t really work on the pudding (it just looked like the leftovers of a cake box lined up in a row)

We had the pre theatre menu and told the staff when we needed to leave. Starters, including mackerel and asparagus soup were nicely presented and good to eat. However, main courses took 30 mins to arrive, one was forgotten and one of the sides wasn't what it was meant to be. We had to ask for the bill with our main courses and shovelling the food down our throats turned a treat into a penance. The fact that the fish was very plain at least made that easier.

Restaurant design is modern and stylish. I would like to be able to comment on the toilets but didn't have time to go.

What a lovely restaurant amidst the hustle, bustle and building works of Victoria Station and it's surroundings. From the second we stepped through the door, every single member of staff greeted us as we walked to our table - no matter what they were doing! It wasn't too busy but the staff were attentive without rushing us, our glasses were always filled without asking and was just such a nice atmosphere and ambience. As for the food! It was delicious! Looked and tasted fresh, presented brilliantly and I can't wait to get back to this place. Perfect for pre/pst theatre esp as it's right next door to the theatre showing Hamilton!

We have visited before and found the Aster wonderful, it still is. Our only comment would be that there needs to be a wider choice in the menu for veggies. The lunch menu was limited and heavy on fish.
